I played the V2 and original FG tour irons. Loved them both, fantastic irons. Moved up the FG Tour 100 blades and I have to say, there is nothing better than striking them in the middle. When oi go to the range and take off the covers ( for protection_) I have people walk by and ask me about them. I have a Ping tour bag so everyone thinks they are a new Ping iron. When they see its a Wilson Staff they are in awe of the beauty of the irons. Wilson staff irons are the best I have ever played and I have played them all. Love traditional lofts vs jacked up lofts other companies incorporate. Real players play standard lofts....

Mark, Thanks, All the irons you hit are Forged. I am a big Wilson Staff guy. The F5 is my irons I play every day and I think they are great . Played the FG Tour 100 for a while and like it very much but being a 10 handicap I choice the F5 and wow what a great set of irons. Very long for me and in our dry air here in Texas they play awesome. Thanks for the review. In my opinion nothing better than a Wilson Staff irons as long as you get the FORGED irons. Thanks Mark. Glad to see give a look at WILSON Staff.

Currently I play the classic Wilson FG-51 blades (they came out in '91, which is 3 years before I was born haha). I got them really cheap with great shafts and grips, and all these years they still perform great for me. I have them in 2-9 iron and I currently use 4-9 in my bag. The stock lofts for the FG 51s are much weaker than even modern players irons, with a 23* 3 iron down to a 46* 9 iron in the stock specs. Even though my measured lofts are actually 2* stronger than stock for each club (except for the 4 and 9 irons which measured only 1* stronger), they're still 1* weaker than these FG Tour 100s! If I could afford to upgrade, I'd look at these new Wilson irons first thing. I have their FG Tour M3 3 hybrid which replaced my 2 and 3 irons (which were lovely off the tee more than anything), and I'd look at something like the F5 irons for the 4 and 5 because I know I'm leaving performance on the table with my long iron blades. Everything else 6-PW could be the V6 or 100 blades and I would be a happy camper! Great review as always, Mark.

Hi Brah. I have been gaming the Wilson FG Tour F5 for nearly a year now. Excellent clubs. I had the Wilson Tour V2 before, over time they got dented and marked up being forged as well. The V6 looks 'really lovely', but happy with the F5 so won't change soon. keep up the good work Brah.

the 100's are 100 years of tradition. what a beautiful blade. V 6's look great, my next irons .. was gonna get the F5's but now I ain't .. what beautiful irons Wilson Staff has been putting out. I have a set of M3's but the shafts are killers. The M3's are beautiful with the black head & the black phenom shaft. Check it out. V6's here I come ..

I play F5's and i went for them because they they are forged, still have some help with offsets/cavity but mostly they were cheap compared other brands forged irons. They also gave me the same distance as my previous game improvement set without cranked lofts and about 10% more spin.. thanks for the review however ugly can be goodl.. just ask Wayne Rooney

I too rather like the punches on the FG100 blade to frame the face. Though I'd probably go V6 or F5 as I like chunky cavity backs. The F5 does have some kind of cheap look to it but I can't really explain what makes me feel that way about it's appearance... Maybe because the matte finish and colors makes it look like plastic? I wouldn't mind using it though because to me it looks good at address and does seem to perform well.

I'm a big Wilson staff fan... and sure the FG 100 Tour blades look great new... but that golden button back thing (remember the old button backs?!) chips very very easily and unless you cover them in your bag (during a round), they lose their gold paint jobs in chips very very quickly. 6 months of golf and they look beaten up even if you look after them. A purdier Wilson blade is the FG62. A plain as you like muscle back with knurling like the 3 irons you review here but none of that gold paint which chips off as soon as you look at it.

I still have them from the 80's, my Dad's old set. Had them regripped last year. Still play them too. The lofts are very weak, 39 degrees on the 7 iron but that just means you have to club up about 2 to match a current set. They still feel great!

I was surprised at the discrepancy in ball speed with your dry testing of the F5 and FG Tour. Whereas your ball speed was much more consistent with the V6. I would think that could have an impact on dispersion short and long unless you are striking it consistently out of the middle.
@MarkCrossfield7 жыл бұрын
+mjgrasso76 what did you think of the distance control on the course 👍
@mjgrasso767 жыл бұрын
Mark Crossfield Always love seeing on course testing as based on the dry ball testing, you could question the accuracy of the launch monitor data when ball speed was up to 9mph different between shots. Even with on course testing it was still a small sample of each club but like any club choice you have to hit them for yourself.

Great review.. one thing I don't understand with Wilson is why they have keep carrying the Wilson Staff branding.. maybe it's heritage.. but I would have thought if they just ran with Wilson branding with the red "W" we see in tennis and other sports the brand would be so much more recognisable, particularly on tour and to the younger generation... And let's face it marketing is their biggest issue.. by all accounts the product more than stacks up.

Not really heard much from Wilson then, BANG! They give us some serious iron porn! Why can't all brands make their irons this sexy? some do, but most are awful. Ping for example, excellent performance, but look terrible. Seeing as each manufacturer pretty much makes the same clubs just with different aesthetics, then looks matter.
