Ian is the man. Interesting to see a really good golfer playing so conservatively. With so much talk these days about distance you’d think everyone with that much ability would already be at least experimenting with hitting it harder. I think you touched on one of the problems. Golf memberships in my view make people worse golfers. Only playing one course makes golfers very one dimensional.
@beefiron4 жыл бұрын
Ian is the man Have to say, as someone who consistently (maybe half the time) beats my handicap by a couple, but doesn't post super scores, I'd like to hear more about that 93, 65 theory Mark was talking about at the end.
@jaybyrne45624 жыл бұрын
If you're consistently beating your hcap, you should be consistently getting cut each time you do, unless you're not playing in competitions? You would also get a general play cut too at end of season. Marks philosophy is similar to how I play, you have the ability to shoot much lower than your hcap but aren't consistent. So have loads of bad rounds going up 0.1 each time, then shoot well under it one week and get cut loads. 10 bad rounds is only 1 shot gain on hcap, one round 4 or 5 under hcap could be 1.2 to 1.5 off your hcap if you're cat 3. So one good round every 5 bad will see you drop loads over a year 👍

Spot on Mark, I'm in the same boat as many others playing off low single figures. We hit our buffer and save 0.1 or loose the odd few 0.1s but rarely win. Too conservative. I think the new handicap system might help as best 8 of 20 rounds you can have 12 blow outs! Thats my plan for next year. Frees up the driver more too.

"Ian is the man." Not afraid to try to go faster, as my handicap has been stagnant at around a 20 for quite some time. Hit about 75 balls at the range today, concentrating on trying to get into my right hip more as Mark often talks about. Consistency of strike improved, but everything tends to go left. Quite left.

I am exactly like Ian. Early in the summer after just hitting into a Covid net for 3 months, I was hitting my drives 25-30yrds further then last year. I was swinging hard and the ball was flying straight! Then one round I started leaking my drives and I started slowing down my swing to keep it from over cutting. But my scores just kept going up and my swing just kept feeling worse. I need to just smash it!

On the other hand if we don’t push the limits you don’t progress , if we always do the same things how can we expect a different result , great vids these playing with subscribers , very interesting to see the course management decisions of different handicaps .

I am 64 and was trying to get some distance back with the firm "post up" of the left leg. Spent the day after golf hobbling around and groaning. Decided to try Moe Norman's style (via Todd Graves) that has no left leg straightening at all. Not only has it relieved my back, but I have gained 12 yards on my driver. Not sure how that occurs, but I'm not complaining, lol.

Hi Mark, really interesting video, thanks. I'm going through a similar process to try and increase speed as in 50's and need more length! I can do it, but hit massive block slice every time. Ironically, these shots are more out the middle than my cautious shot which tends to be high toe. Realise I need to work on path and getting clubface square at impact, just completely lost now on how to achieve that 🤔 😳
