I too go to non-demo. church with many former catholic raised people in the congregation, including my pastor. I'm 57 now and it was pointed out recently that I am the only one attending that was raised protestant in CMA church. Every religion has its fair share of Pharisees and Sadducees. If they don't follow biblical teaching from Gods word, then you need to find a church body that does. Come Lord Jesus, come!
@albertuscristerusСағат бұрын
Religion is a relationship with God! What you are saying is heretical because it is basically a free for all. It even sounds like New Age which is dangerous. Jesus instituted the Church and he let it clear that not even the gates of hell could prevail against it. The Church has always survived even under the worst leadership. You were never Catholic. If you were truly Catholic you would have remained one. You were just Catholic by tradition and are clueless of the theological tradition of the Church. That’s why there are so many Protestant churches because people want to choose which one fits them best and God nor life in general works that way. Discipline, rules, and dogma are also saintly. God is not about you. Protestants churches appeal to modernism and worldliness. The mass is about Jesus not about concerts and festivity. You have the right to question the Church but you do your intense research before leaving your faith. Not because a Church seems nice and friendly means they are right. Remember evil disguises itself as good. Mormons are wonderful people but their beliefs are demonic. That’s like saying that I would rather go to a Bad Bunny concert over a Classical music concert just because the first one awakens my earthly pleasures and the other one doesn’t. I know which choice is the best but I’m letting my emotions guide me not my rationale. That’s why I always say that Protestantism is irrational and all about emotions.

@mendoza248915 сағат бұрын
@@chato12377 Because Jesus never said, “Do away with rituals!” In fact, He came to fulfill the law, not abolish it (Matthew 5:17). The rituals and laws of the Old Covenant were symbolic, pointing forward to the Messiah. In the New Covenant, those rituals are fulfilled and elevated in Christ. For example, the purifying water of the Old Law now becomes a channel of grace in baptism, where it “now saves” (1 Peter 3:21) and washes away sins (Acts 22:16). The paschal lamb, whose flesh was eaten symbolically, is fulfilled in the Eucharist, where Jesus gives us His actual body and blood (John 6:53-56). The focus of these rituals isn’t the actions themselves but Christ, the center of the New Covenant. The rituals now bring grace, uniting us to Him in a deeper, transformative way. Peace be with you.

I dont know if Mark just hasn’t done much reading but the original KJV had the dueterocanon. It was a part of all christian bibles until The British and Foreign Bible Society had in fact dropped the Apocrypha from its bibles published in English in 1804. This decision broke with the tradition of Myles Coverdale, of consolidating the Apocrypha between the two Testaments.[3] They reasoned that by not printing the secondary material of Apocrypha within the Bible, the scriptures would prove to be less costly to produce. The apostles overwhelmingly quote from the Greek Septuagint not the masoretic texts. The Septuagint contained the dueterocanon….. this is a hard fact. There’s also multiple references to the dueterocanon in the new testament. Mark just doesnt know what he’s talking about here. If youre curious, ask yourself why the protestant bible removed any mention of God from Esther? They did it over 50 times! The version in the dead sea scrolls mentions god so how did the catholic church go back in time and convince the jews to use this canon? The catholic church just held to the same scriptures as the apostles guys. You guys are the ones that removed them and just to save a few bucks.
@Broooooo-ww7hw12 сағат бұрын
Jews admit that they were historical books but not inspired. You can blame the Jews for a lot but not that they don't take scripture seriously. Also protestant canon is more ancient than the 1800s
@Broooooo-ww7hw12 сағат бұрын
Protestant canon goes back to Martin Luther and earlier so you are already wrong on your reasoning.
@timboslice9804 сағат бұрын
@ No not really. Tell me what books were in the dead sea scrolls? This stuff is so easy to look up. They held to those books…. The Sadducees only held to the first 5 along with the Samaritan jews. The jews in Greece held to the deuterocanon as well. The truth is when St Jerome went to translate the vulgate he noticed the dueterocanon was not written in hebrew or aramaic. He made mention of the this but went with the popes decision to include them. Jerome never once complained after that but here comes Martin Luther. Before he was excommunicated he debated someone named Johann Eck. Eck for lack of better words destroyed him and used the dueterocanon to do it. Luther was so embarrassed he said you cant use the secondary canon in debates or to derive doctrine. It was the first time anyone had heard this so im sure it was a lot of puzzled looks. The silly thing is luther used them for doctrine and preached from these books from the pulpit before that debate. Afterwards he stuck them in the back along with other new testament books that refuted his theology. He said he wished he could throw the book of james into the fire. He said it was written by a malevolent jew in order to corrupt christianity into thinking works mattered. If he listened to Hebrews he wouldve seen “submit to your elders” so he tossed that book out. Didnt like revelation…. I mean this is a guy who just picks and chooses which bible books to listen to but he never actually removed the books. They werent removed from scripture till the british bible society wanted to save some money. That didnt happen until the 1800s. It would be super easy to prove me wrong….. just tell me which christian bible was the first to not include the dueterocanon. If its before the 1800s than i’ll acquiesce. On a personal note i grew up methodist and converted to catholicism a couple years ago. My grandfather had an old methodist bible from the 1920’s. It had the. Deuterocanon in the back….. i was a bible nerd so i was shocked when i saw these books for the first time in the 90s. I asked my grandfather what i was looking at…. He said they used to be considered books of the bible but they fell put of popularity. I was 18 at that time and couldnt stop thinking…. Who had the authority to remove the books? For all the churches? Like what if the books we hold to now fall out of favor…. Who could remove them if that happened? It started a chain reaction of questions that nobody had the answers for. Eventually i left the church for over 10 years because of it. The fact is the dueterocanon is part of the Septuagint. The new testament overwhelmingly quotes the Septuagint and multiple times quotes the dueterocanon itself. The apostles used them as scripture! The Esine jews and early christianity look almost exactly the same. I think Christ leaned more towards that version of judaism than the Pharisees’ and makes total sense that he would hold to that canon. Finally we see Jesus in Jerusalem for the celebration festival of lights. This is Hanukah!!!!! Do you know where Hanukah comes from? The story in Maccabees so Jesus himself is celebrating this festival. Did the catholic church invent the dueterocanon? No chance. Did they just continue to preach from the scriptures they were taught to preach from? Yes. The apostles used the Septuagint the new testament is written in greek like the deuterocanon. Do any of you know how the Septuagint came to be written? Its a fascinating story….. suffice to say every single one of those 72 translators sent from Jerusalem wouldve condemned the dueterocanon as not scripture but they didnt. How did all 72 scribes approve if these were additions? Mark Driscoll hasnt got a clue as to what he’s talking about because he learned these things from anti catholic sources. The best method is to check the catholic sources and the secular ones. The catholic and secular history always matches and the anti catholic stuff is always proven wrong. What happens is you get people who quote mine the fathers, popes, early councils, try to bend and twist them like they do with Augustine and Jerome.

There are more than one version of the Septuagint with many apocryphal books. These were translated for the Jews who didn’t speak Hebrew, nevertheless, don’t considered by them as canon, but useful, just like Jerome, who translated the vulgate did, he also didn’t consider these books as canon. As early Christianity soon spread more between gentiles, they didn’t read Hebrew, so used the Septuagint, and didn’t really know that the apocrypha books weren’t canon, so using them became tradition. As the Catholic Church is based on tradition, considered them as canon. Did you know that the Orthodox Church has even more books from the Septuagint. Actually they have around 10 Old Testament canons. Why your canon is better than their ones as they are also based on tradition? You see, there’s no logical explanation to this, unless accept the Jewish canon, as stated in 70 AD by Josephus, thus the canon used and directly quoted by Jesus.

@@childoftheonetrueking7761 That is not what Driscoll said, he said Catholics added books to the Bible. He was referring to the deuterocanonical books or “apocrypha” as you would have it. How can the Bible be the ultimate authority when it wasn’t even a complete book until the 4th century? Obviously the real authority comes from the authors of those books and those that compiled it and ruled it to be inerrant (the apostles and their successors). Again, my question. The Septuagint contained the extra books and The Church prior to the reformation agreed on that canon. How can one claim that Catholics added books to the Bible when books were clearly REMOVED from the Bible during the reformation.

So I don't know a whole lot about Catholicism, but it does seem very ritualistic, and the Catholics seem to place more authority on the church than that of God's word which is a red flag. Then there's the role of the pope and then there's the things the current pope says and does which is questionable. They also seem to put a lot of emphasis on Mary the woman who bore Jesus in the flesh, praying to other saints, and they have a lot of relics that are kind of weird because it usually relates to a dead saint which might could possibly be perceived as an idol. That's the impression I get and that's just not for me. I don't agree with Mark on everything and I do think there are bigger fish to fry, but I don't think he's wrong on this one either. I would add that none of what I have said is intended to challenge the salvation of the individual Catholic, I do think there many saved Catholics who are devoted to Jesus Christ and walk in the Spirit. I'm also not trying to imply that all Protestants are saved or have it right. A lot of people who say they are Christian do very unchristian things and that's where we need to be discerning and look for the Fruits of the Spirit, as it written we will know them by their fruits.

Our stories have many parallels. I was born and raised Catholic. Infant baptism, teen confirmation (I chose St. Martin). Altar boy for 5 years. Catholic grammar school and high school. None of it meant anything to me. Stopped going to church at 14 and slowly became an atheist and world class mocker. FF to age 45. Started thinking about things (long story). At 55 got saved, found a solid Bible believing church and got baptized. Joined a small group and a men's Bible study and the men's ministry. Still there doing those and I also do a weekly Bible study with my 12 year old grandson. What an amazing God we serve! P.S. I enjoy your preaching. Happy New Year!

The Catholic church has a lot more issues than Mark mentioned. Idol worship, praying to Mary and saints. One Catholic I know posted a terrible meme saying the best way to get to God is through Mary. Completely and totally NOT what the Bible says. Jesus clearly stated NO ONE gets to the Father but by me. Not to mention rampant hatred of Protestants and Jews. Replacement theology. Those are just a few issues of many. They also are brainwashed into being very suspicious of Protestants. They believe in works getting them to heaven, unbiblical purgatory. I could go on... I pray for them, I witness to them, but as a group they are lost. They wont listen to Bible verses as back up so it isn't easy.
@bigfootapologeticsСағат бұрын
The Catholic Church teaches idol worship is a mortal sin that sends you to hell. We ask Mary and the saints to pray to God for us - if we believed Mary was God, why would we ask her to go pray to God? Why would we tell Catholics that worshiping Mary is heresy? Going through Mary simply means submitting to Jesus as she did - saying "yes" to His Will. We don't hate Protesantism; but the identity of "Protesantism" is to "protest" the true Church - the identity is one of opposition. We're not the ones who started that.

I personally am anti-label and do not believe in the need for ANY denomination. Ask yourself if any of it is biblical!? I hold most strongly to the actual words spoken by Jesus in the gospels and I’ve not come across one single quote directly from Jesus where He stated there shall be any separate denominations or labels, period. I’m not offended by any of it but I sternly reject being labeled: religious, evangelical, Protestant, or - yes - even Christian. I am a believer and a follower of Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior, full stop.

Fair point about a married pastor being more easily able to council married members of the congregation. But here's the other side you havent addressed - a married pastor or priest will always be divided between their spouse/kids and their church. They cannot be 100% there for both. My old church had that issue - the pastor was having issues with their teenage daughter and was hardly ever there. Id come out of witchcraft and was experiencing intense spiritual warfare and really needed spiritual guidance. Heard of similar issues in other protestant churches, whether its marital issues, the pastor having an affair or something else, married clergy seems to create barriers to effective church leadership. Also being raused Catholic doesnt mean you have a sound understanding of Catholic doctrine.

So as a single, unmarried, male. I am "unhealthy" and "unholy"... got it! I am glad you are not the authority. A pretty flimsy, self-righteous, response IMO. Comes across as, "I was catholic when I was a wee boy, and know better than you" ... I guess you never learned that diocesan priests do not, in fact, take a "vow of poverty". Priests are celibate (a pretty recent thing), so they can devote themselves entirely to their pastoral work. Just because you don't have a family, doesn't mean you cannot offer coaching and spiritual guidance. In fact, it's probably better that way, as you are not so focused on the subjective "but, MY family does this..." , instead of a broad objective lens. Also, this distinction between "Catholic" and "Christian" is both misled and divisive. They are one and the same, regardless of your twisted semantics. ... but this is what happens when people, almost 2000 years later, attempt to redefine the church. As if God got it wrong, or something. I don't believe a true God would take 1600+ years to "re-invent" a protestant church that has continued to divide and water down the down the gospel ever since, all while criticizing the very foundation (and traditions) that were passed down from Christ himself. And one more thing... "adding books to God's word?" ... I think you will find that it's the other way round. The reformation REMOVED books that were cannon, because they didn't fit with the watered down version of Christianity.

As a fellow young man (virgin, not wealthy), I couldn't agree with you more. "Pastor" Driscoll fails to see the great dilemma of our younger gemerations. I do believe most young men still desire to get married and have families, but a lot of Western young women have been brainwashed & hijacked by corrosive ideologies and morals. And yes, he doesn't seem to consider that Christ Himself told His Disciples to leave their earthly possessions and follow Him. The Christian's world doesn't revolve around "getting rich" or "the American Dream". The Christian life revolves around being in our Father's business: converting souls and fighting against heresy and evil. In irony, I think Driscoll is unwittingly driving more young men to look into Catholicism every time he mockes them for being "broke virgins."

@ yeah. I am, quite frankly, tired of these self-righteous “family men”, who shame others for not having their level of “success” in romance. It’s corrosive and unhelpful (believe me, there is some of this in Catholic communities also). We are all called to our own unique mission in this life. Those that stand on a pulpit and tell others that “their” family life is “your” purpose also, fail to consider the practical nature that we are not all given that blessing of meeting, being able to talk to, and ultimately marrying our soulmate. The same is true of wealth. Some are blessed with these things, others are not. We play the cards we are dealt as we discern our vocation.

Every Mass has four readings. Generally you hear from the Old Testament, a sung or spoken psalm, a New Testament reading not from the Gospels, and then a Gospel reading. Then it is all discussed in the homily. If you aren’t hearing and studying Scripture every Sunday in the Catholic Church it is because you just didn’t listen. For a guy that says he grew up Catholic he has a lot of misconceptions that make me wonder what went so terribly wrong in his formative years for him to have so many misunderstandings about Catholicism. I would love to see him talk with a KZbinr like Scott Hahn. I think that would be an interesting discussion.

@mendoza248913 сағат бұрын
@@Loyal2law Sincere question. You say Jesus sides with Martin Luther on this one, but have you ever considered this often overlooked fact: Martin Luther and other Reformers exercised more doctrinal and theological authority than any pope up until that point-and arguably even now. For instance, Luther not only removed books from the Bible (the deuterocanonicals) but also added to Scripture. He inserted the word “alone” in his German translation of Romans 3:28, changing it to “faith alone,” to fit his theological narrative. This was not present in the original Greek text. While popes have checks and balances through councils and tradition, Luther acted independently, making sweeping changes that redefined Christianity. Reformers like him effectively created a new religion, and it raises the question: who gave Luther the authority to single-handedly do so? Even Scripture itself warns against private interpretation: “No prophecy of Scripture is a matter of one’s own interpretation” (2 Peter 1:20). By taking it upon himself to rewrite doctrine, Luther assumed a level of authority that contradicts the very principles of humility and accountability Scripture upholds. It’s worth reflecting on whether this aligns with what Jesus envisioned for His Church.

I had to stay in the hospital when I was 17 when my own mother wouldn’t come and get me this woman, who clearly did not like me came to get me allowed me to stay at her home, fed me and hosted me until I could get back on my feet again. In Matthew 23:9, Jesus is condemning the abuse of titles, not banning the word “father” altogether. Paul calls himself a spiritual father in 1 Corinthians 4:15, Abraham is called “the father of us all” in Romans 4:16, and Stephen refers to “our fathers” in Acts 7:2. Scripture uses “father” in spiritual and respectful ways, so the issue isn’t the word itself but pride and forgetting that all authority comes from God, our ultimate Father.

Celibacy is a discipline and has changed (1100s to be exact), and not all priests take vows of poverty. Etc. Also, you've shown a very flawed Protestant way of thinking of "either/or," by focusing on only the good aspects of fatherhood, but neglecting the very words of Paul who said it would be better to remain celibate.

He died on the cross for the forgiveness of our sins. He rose from the dead and ascended into heaven. He will come back to judge the living and the dead. This is what I believe. I have to say the way you attempted to qualify your remarks at the beginning of the video to show some how you have knowledge of the Catholic church or Catholicism did the opposite. It only shows that you have no knowledge regarding the Catholic church nor do you care to find out what or why Catholics believe the way they do. It's just easier for you do judge and mock.

Here's how we all get along just fine. Do what JESUS said and still says might I add (because he's the WORD and the WORD is still today "LIVE ETERNALLY" HES THE CREATOR.

I think you should talk to a priest

So I listened with interest up to the point where you talked about the Catholic Church slipping books into the Bible. It was at this point that I knew you still have a lot to learn about the history of the church. This is because what you said is the opposite of what actually happened. Given that it was the Catholic Church which compiled the Bible, it has to be a very odd statement to say that they were slipping books into the Bible. The real question is, who removed books from the Bible? Pastor Mark, you have partial knowledge of the Catholic Church, and see it through the lens of your own biases. But I still appreciate most of your work.

Pastor Mark just can't stay out of trouble with some people! 😂 I really appreciate him getting out there and explaining his views and addressing concerns. People need to calm down and listen to his side of the story before grabbing the pitch forks and torches. 😄

I have never met anybody so misled. I specifically recall that pride Is the sin that Lucifer committed in heaven and God sent out. You do not understand what Christ is teaching, period. That is not me, that is your own words condemning you. God's mercy is endless and I will pray for your soul, may the peace of Christ always be with you.

I always assumed Catholics were Christians but I do understand it now. One friend explained Catholics worship at the cross, christians worship the living Jesus

Catholics worship the living Jesus at the cross (and resurrection).

Sorry, but you don't understand it now. We Catholics worship the resurrected Jesus at the cross and everywhere.

I was kind of hoping you'd respond to Fr. David Michael Moses in this video but maybe you didn't see it in time. Would love to see a conversation with you and Fr. David, he gave a pretty thorough response to your claims regarding vows of poverty and celibacy taken by priests. It's one thing to be on your own behind the microphone but stepping into a real conversation might be fruitful for all!

The Catholic Church states you cannot have salvation without them and their Pagan traditions. Christ is not enough. This is of the devil and draws people away from the truth.

You clearly have never been in a Catholic Church

The Catholic Church teaches paganism is a mortal sin, and converted more pagans to Christianity than anyone else in history; Catholicism is literally the reason Greco-Romans stopped worshiping their pagan gods.

Wow. That's wild. I'm a couple years younger than you Pastor Mark, and I have only been walking with Jesus for a little less than 2 years. I was also raised Catholic, but when I decided to seek the Lord and go back to Church I told my wife I didn't want to go back to Catholicism. Not for any reason other than I realized I had never been taught anything about the Bible in all my years in CCD or Sunday school, and I wanted to learn about the Word.

You should read Vatican II's "Dei Verbum." I'd post a link for you, but that tends to get my posts deleted. So, just do a quick search, read, and come back and tell me what you think.

I agree with what you are saying BUT I recently saw a video where a guy complained how following Jesus ruined his life because he had lived celibate and because of his tithing he had never been able to afford a home or retire the person who created the video started ranting about thats the cost of being a Christian only someone living celibate and in poverty (which I assume priests do) could tell me that if if they werent but were directing me to why would I listen ? if you think its so easy for Christians to marry I would suggest you view some of the videos about singles in church some of the comments are from people who feel that because of their faith they are sentenced to go thru life alone

It's like a Presbyterian church I attend from time to time. It's based on Reformed theology(Calvinism) which in my time there they've never mentioned. The gospel in open to all.
