Last story!! The.comment the dad made about how men cannot control their urges, pissed me off! That was always my father's attitude. He cheated on my mom during the last 10 years of their 16 year marriage, and had 2 kids with 2 of his affair partners. My mom was raised with the old fashioned attitude of, "As long as he puts his boots under my bed at night, it isn't my business what he does outside of the home." Ugh, I hated that saying! Anyway, she finally opened her eyes when she found out her best friend since kindergarten was pregnant, with MY FATHER'S child. Mom finally kicked him out, and immediately filed for divorce. Mom did eventually remarry my stepdad, and he has been the most amazing father to me over the last 36 years. He has never called me his stepdaughter, I am simply his daughter. He walked me down the aisle when I got married. Bio dad was pissed, but thats a whole other different story, lol. My father went on to have 4 more wives, and 6 more kids, bringing his count up to 5 wives and 11 kids. However, I thought it was poetic justice, because he adored and loved wife number 5. So much so that she was the only wife he was faithful to. Well, karma hit when SHE ended up having an affair, and divorced my father to marry her AP. My dad was never in another relationship until he passed away 15 years later, because he pined away for wife #5, and hoped they would get back together. After he divorced his 3rd wife, my mother told him, "If you keep doing what you are doing, you are going to end up broke from all the child support you pay, and alone when you pass away." It is sad to say she was right on the money. After each divorce, he had limited contact with his kids from that marraige, and just paid child support. In his last 18 months of life, my eldest sister (dad's first born) felt as the oldest, it was her responsibility to care for him. Although she despised him for all he did, she had the closest relationship, because the first 6 years of my parents marraige, dad was faithful and was very present and active in my sister's life, when my parents had my brother and I dad had started to withdraw at that point, so bro and I, and his other 8 kids were an after thought. The two things I have been blessed with out of the mess my father made, was one, unlike my elder sister and brother, I have forged a bond and close relationship with my younger brother, and sisters. Second and most important, was I knew exactly what kind of man I wanted in my life, and which men to avoid. I have been with my husband 30 years, and married 28 years. We have both been faithful to each other, and I knew from the beginning he would never be the kind of man to cheat. Of course skeptic people will ask how do I know I can trust him. My answer is, first he too came from a broken family due to infidelity, only it was his mother that cheated. So, he knows exactly how it feels. Also, we are best friends, have an open and honest relationship, always make sure to communicate, and have been in marraige counseling 20 years of our 28 year marraige to ensure we are on the same page. Marraige is a lot more than simply loving the person, it takes a lot of work, and both partners have to be invested. TLDR: Husbands that feel its their right as men to cheat are aweful, and my bio dad was one of the worse of them all!

About story 1: I wonder how much of this is the family's idea rather than Lisa. If psychologically she's about 10 she's probably not even thinking about having a boyfriend. Also I've find a lot of people peoject their own racism onto people who like ANY kind of Asian media (either music or movies etc) and assume you'll have a race fetish. I've had people try setting me up on dates with random Asian men because I like BTS and I'm always so??? what does me liking a group's music have to do with your random friend💀 so icky. Lisa could still be a weirdo though, a lot of young people into hardcore fandoms end up being cringey and inappropriate. But she still has the mentality of a child, so her family is responsible for enabling inappropriate behavior.

Even though she’s intellectually 10, emotionally she’s most likely a teenager & interested in things like dating & boyfriends plus she’s seeing her sister’s life & expects something similar to happen in her life while not understanding what is actually happening Example: she sees her sister getting a pretty dress, a lot of attention, & a big party. Not understanding what exactly a wedding & marriage is With developmentally disabled people you can’t just say “oh they’re 10 years old or 6 years old” It’s more likely they are one age intellectually & another age emotionally Ex. My aunt’s Sister in law was intellectually around 8 to 12 but emotionally tweens early teens. She constantly talked about wanting a boyfriend or to get married while not understanding what having a boyfriend or getting married meant She died at age 58 due to other health issues My developmentally disabled niece has the intellectual capacity of a 5 or 6 year old but emotionally is a tween. She’s in her early 20s. She doesn’t have any interest in relationships but she has interests that teens or tweens do: she likes K-pop & anime& watching makeup videos on KZbin & dance videos on TikTok

@invisigoth510 Very true! Thanks for the insightful comment. I still think that someone who's intellectually pre pubescent probably doesn't have the capacity to have a race fetish, at least now in the way that adults do, but it totally makes sense the fact the big event is a wedding would lead to either the sister wanting or the family thinking the sister wants a "boyfriend" to not be "left out". Either way it's still on the caretakers to not give into that behavior.

My brother is severely autistic/profoundly handicapped. I have been around the MRDD community my whole life and worked for day programs for years. You'd think that taking care of lower functioning people who need alot more help with daily tasks like hygiene would be alot harder than working with higher functioning adults is alot hard. It isn't. You know why- the constant boyfriend/girlfriend drama. It was like middle school everyday only they have adult wants/needs. We were constantly trying to prevent hook ups, keep people from runnung away with strangers on the internet, and dealing with epic break up tantrums. They could have relationships, but because they were vulnerable they had to sign paperwork, have their messages monitered, and have safeguards in place. But that took time and apparently nobody had time for that lol. But the worst thing was we had a female client whose family would encourage her 'crushes' including on STAFF. Then they would try to sue us for sexual harrassment. When that didn't work they'd whine that she missed HER staff and was throwing tantrums over it. I wish I was kidding. This is so f^cked up. Lisa doesn't understand why she can't be with OP. Instead of explaining that OP has a girlfriend (which Lisa would understand) they are encouraging her. To prevent tantrums no doubt. But even if all went according to plan what happens AFTER the wedding? An even bigger blow up is ineviatable. Lisa CAN NOT be with OP, it's ILLEGAL. OP could get in serious trouble if Lisa were to say she was preganant- we had clients lie about pregnancies CONSTANTLY. My favorite was a girl who had her tubes tied but was pregnant every other week. One day I finally told her 'No your not. You are never alone and you had your surgery. C'mon you don't have to lie to hangout.' She finally admitted that she wasn't, that time anyway. But if Lisa pulled that OP could be ARRESTED. You have to be so careful with what you say and do around vulnerable adults. They are setting OP AND Lisa BOTH up for failure. What I'd do is promise Lisa a party just for her- AFTER the wedding. Maybe rent out a small venue, or do a backyard picnic. Decorate it to Lisa's tastes, let her buy a dress she loves. Have food- cheeseburgers and pizza would be a hit. Get a karoke machine. Invite all of her dayprogram buddies. We used to have 'prom' for our clients every year- they LOVED it. Really all they needed was music and food- but throw in some decor and fancy dress and they'll LOVE it. But again- make it AFTER the wedding. This way the PARTY is the carrot to dangle- not OP. If Lisa starts to act out remind her that her party is coming up soon so she needs to behave nicely, we don't want to cancel but if Lisa can't handle the wedding she can't handle the party. Also have someone on "Lisa Duty' at the wedding, to try and calm her or take her home if it's too much for her. My brother is too low functioning to want a girlfriend. He likes curvy girls in bathing suits lol- but it doesn't go beyond that. People always used to say- "Oh don't you want him to have a girlfriend? Wouldn't that be cute?' HELL NO. Just no. They are crazy. I have enough drama in my life please & thank you lol.

It's less about Jack and more about OP's mom. The fact that she chose Sylvia as a friend without really knowing the type of person she is is also a red flag that OP's mom gravitates to toxic people

That first one is a restaurant menu of squick. They essentially tried to rig the event to where they could throw OP at Lisa like a steak at a starving dog so they wouldn't have to deal with her for the night, and only because he was the only Asian guy they know? NTA, but Kyle and his bride definitely are. Lisa doesn't deserve to have her emotions toyed around like that. ETA: This is especially scummy since OP wasn't supposed to know he'd be the only one without a +1. My guess is that they intended to make him find out at the last possible moment and go along with it to not upset Lisa at the event.

1) Absolutely NTA to nope out from this when he was being set up to make him pretend to be the boyfriend to the brides disabled sister. 100% wrong that they were trying to pull this off and OP only found out by accident. Avoid these crazy people going forward, they are awful and not friends to OP. After update: I'm glad OP found out the truth about how horrible that couple is and has cut them out of his life. Wow, so much crazy going on with those people. 2) NTA, it's none of his business. He was a terrible husband and is a terrible father. OP is right, and should go NC with the dad since he is the opposite of adding anything positive to their life. I'm glad the mom found a good man and got married without incident. After update: LOL, some people, WTF?! Too bad some people are so awful. I'm glad OP recognizes how wrong and screwed up the dad is. I do hope OP gets away from the craziness that is the dad and his messed up on & off again AP.

Love is extremely difficult to define because there are so many different types and levels. It's also intertwined with things like trust and respect at levels other emotions don't require (e.g. anger). While some people can and do separate love from sex, that's not really relevant in this case. He didn't respect his wife and broke the trust. What he's feeling now is probably more about what HE failed at and lost, rather than anything to do with OP's mom. He screwed up. He's the bad guy. He failed. He won't accept those things, so getting back with the ex would wipe his slate clean.

Story one: Pretending he's Lisa's boyfriend? Because they don't want her to be single? *Okay, that's just a WHOLE new level of f@cked up!* Let that woman be and stop indulging her. And let OP be as well. *Damn!* 🤦🏾♀️ After update: So, Lisa is a Korea-boo. And they, knowing OP had a girlfriend already, still tried to go with it? And Lisa being extremely immature (since she's mentally disabled)? I'm glad that "friendship" is over. There is no respect from these people and plenty of enabling Lisa's behavior. 😬

Is it true a man can cheat and still love his wife? Sure. Does it mean that trust doesn’t get broken in that circumstance? *HELL NO.*
@emilybarclay8831 Жыл бұрын
How can you love someone when you prioritise four minutes of physical pleasure over your partner’s heart, soul, health and mind? It’s the exact same argument as ‘sure I hit her, but I still love her!’ No you do not. You don’t love someone of you choose to hurt them for your own selfish wants. Love requires loyalty. Cheating shows you have no loyalty, so you have no love
@DullestStar9299 Жыл бұрын
I mean... But you should be up front from the very beginning and ask for an open relationship if that's the case. If she says yes to a one-sided open relationship (that most guys want), power to you. If she prefers it to be a fully open relationship, hey, at least she still said yes. If she says no, then chances are you two don't want the same thing and, sorry to break it to some people, love *WILL NOT* be enough to keep the relationship stable and healthy. The issue is that the majority of dudes know that the majority of women seek and value exclusive relationships and would probably laugh in their face before the question is ever posed to them. Hence, why you have some guys who believe it's "acceptable" to sleep with other women when they're already in a full-blown relationship, spewing this selfish, harmful, gobbledygook that men can cheat, and women can't; a single self-respecting woman would never go into a marriage knowing this beforehand. In fact, those women are willing are very, very far and few in between, and even less so for those who'll allow for a one-sided open relationship. On another note... I'm curious if these men think if the women they're sleeping with behind their SO's back are mindless robots (just like them). Do they think their AP(s) won't fall for them? Do they think they're going to be okay with being the second best? What if AP is psycho; now you put your spouse and family in danger. So, to mirror what you said: Is it true a man can cheat and still love is wife? Sure... But he in no way respects her as a person with feelings nor does he respect her sexual health... Does it mean that trust doesn't get broken in that circumstance? Of course, it's broken, and unfortunately sometimes it can damage a person beyond repair, especially when STIs are involved. It's not even a matter of trust, in my opinion. It's a matter of mental and physical health being put in jeopardy because someone wants to have their cake and eat it too. You would REALLY think with antibiotic resistant strains of STIs roaming around that people would have more respect for their partner's health than, I don't know, messing around and bringing home some STI that can only be treated with chemotherapy or some other over-the-top unorthodox method of medicine. But then again... people will always be people... Humans gonna human, I guess.

1st story: Ohgod OP's friend's fiancee sounds like she's been conditioned to bow to the spoiled rotten developmentally delayed Golden Child (Lisa) and is exhibiting narcissistic-adjacent coping behaviors that she learned from her parents if she's not an actual Cluster of Bees herself. Kyle's all in because he sold his soul to a Demon in the Sack, although he might have his own subscriptions to issues as well. OP is well to cut this cancer out of his life. Only someone who's been either conditioned to worship the Golden Child, or is a Cluster of Bees themself, would say crap like "Why would you do this to my sister" when it was HER that was doing it to her sister.

Look, the 2nd story really makes me appreciate those of us with character. My best friend of 20 years since high school had a horrible, on-again off-again relationship with a good friend of mine who I knew for years before I eventually became better friends with the dude later on. I can think of a dozen times where she aggressively tried to seduce, often in public settings in front of our other friends, and many times when they weren't together. It wasn't hard to see through it, and realize that she was simply trying to upset my friend, and thus even though she's a hot crazy smoke show, I turned her down, every time. If you're too weak to not be able to stick your dick in crazy (even if it's temporary crazy and they're not a bad person), and value your friendships, well - story 2 is what's in store for you. It's not worth decades to have fun for a night, especially when it's going to really hurt somebody you deeply care about. It's like a 9 of 10 on the fuck around/find out scale.

That comment in the second story about people believing a spouse is responsible for their partner cheating is a conversation i had with a friend. She and her fiance fully believe that a man or a person cheating on their SO is the other persons fault because you weren't giving them something that the other person did. And im like wtf its never the persons fault that was cheated on. it's always the cheaters fault. Once i reminded her of my ex that cheated on me in a drunken 3 some after i was with him almost everyday for the 3 years we were together, bought food for me him and his kids when i would go to to see him, we went on dates and everything, he"d cook dinner for us, wed go on mini vacations, play games etc. Genuinely believed our relationship was great, and then he did what he did. Bringing that up to her she was like yeah youre right i didnt think of it that way. I called her stupid and her fiance. The fact he brought it up makes me believe hes cheating on her

Look. I think everyone deserves second chances. As long as someone’s alive, they can learn and grow. And yet “A man can cheat on his wife and still love and be willing to die for her.” Then die. It would be so much easier for her if he just disappeared from her life, if not actually then effectively. Because his “love” is not about his wife. But he won’t. It’s not about her. It’s about him. He loves himself so much he’s can’t bear to lose something that was “his”. He loves himself enough to be willing to die if it would achieve what he wants. Except there’s nothing he wants more than his own satisfaction and health-even at the cost of delusion.

Story 1; Lisa is sister to the groom, whether or not she has a "date" to the wedding is entirely irrelevant. Bridesmaids and groomsmen are not automatically supposed to be couples. 6:26 "Clare asked me why I would do this to her sister." Do what? Not want to lie to her? Not want to string her along with false hope? Not want to disrespect OP's girlfriend? Not want to be forced to be saddled with the burden of caring for their disabled relative that OP barely knows? Not want to go along with their racism? Not want to do their work for them? OP's NOT doing ANYTHING to her. That's the POINT of NOT attending the wedding. As an Asian guy that grew up in the US, this is pretty f*cking racist. Like, this feels more racist than ANYTHING I've dealt with in 25+ years living in the US. For all my Asian peers still living in the US, if you don't know, a lot of people will drop work, responsibilities and burdens onto you as if it's the most natural thing in the world. Don't let them. Their idea is that "model minorities are hard working and they can do x better than I can. So I'll just let them do the work for me. It's what they're there for." It's detrimental to you AND them. Again, don't let them.
