Shot gun wedding Why is everyone dead set on ex cheated. It's pretty easy to get someone pregnant while having unprotected sex. If they ended up in bed 4 months after he left, they slept with each other for 3 to 4 months, she is in her second trimester in a year. And she comes from a "traditional, family first," family It's a shot gun wedding. There is a term for this kind of marrige, it's a shot gun wedding.

“I can’t keep holding on to my hatred and resentment forever,” what are they talking about? OP didn’t hold it on for forever, she barely found out about it. She’s upset and angry because this information they hid from her just hit her out of nowhere. They might have had ample time to digest and be content with fact that OP’s ex cheated on her with her cousin, but for OP all this is new. Crap parents.
@thomasjoseph5876
@thomasjoseph5876 6 ай бұрын
While they are "crap parents" that isn't the driving force behind this all. This is in fact, a scenario that we often see in many countries with chaotic cultures with outdated and often, perverted traditions. It also can transfer to new countries they moved to where their culture and traditions are not prevalent or agreed with. What we are seeing in this story is basically a family caste situation. Different couples/families in a larger family group are clamoring to "climb the social ladder" in their larger family structure. The OP's parents are obviously "Beta" type people who are much more concerned about how they appear to the other families in their larger family group then how they actually are. Thus, they have no problem throwing their offspring under the bus, so to speak, in order to not look poorly by the other families. This is something that seems to be a very common trait in many stories on Reddit, especially those from Eastern and Middle Eastern Nations. The children are educated with more of a common "Western Society" approach and beliefs and those end up clashing with the older societal and family beliefs and traditions. This stuff makes for some AWESOME Reddit and eventually, KZbin stories that creators such as Markee, Lost Genre, and Mark Narrations, end up turning into videos for us.

Even if ex and cousin had been upfront and told OP about being together, and more time had passed, I still wouldn't have faulted OP for not going, since it would be a majorly awkward situation for everyone involved, even if there wasn't resentment. Story 2: NTA. If it had been one hundred or two hundred dollars, I could have understood. But charging your kid $750 per month while they’re paying for a car, school, and food is messed up. If the family was struggling, I would understand but this was not the case. This was just cruel.

Every waking hour is either work or school. Ive known people with two full time jobs that were the same. Literally nothing but work, school, sleep. And truck services do pay a good chunk if money especially overtime. He mightve also had some scholarship money or finacial aid that couldve helped with school. I got aid but still had to pay a partial amount for classes. All my supplies had to be out of pocket tho. Basically its very possible. Its just not living and is a miserable existence.

We charged our Son $50 a month "Rent" once he got back from the Air Force and got a job. We saved it to use when helping him furnish his 1st. apartment, bought cookwear, dishes, glasswear, utensils, 2 sets sheets and pillow cases, pillows, two sets of bath and kitchen towells and a bathmat - even TP, cleaning supplies, a crockpot, coffee maker, filled his fridge and pantry, a TV, and lamps. He bought his own bed and got a 2nd hand couch - coffee table - dinette set and chairs. And Voila, he was in business as an independent adult.

@@thatjeff7550"province" could imply Canada I think, which is not much better. 1 Canadian dollar is ~75% of 1 US dollar... Federal min wage here is, I believe, $15/hour. OP would have had to work full time on top of school, likely, to make anywhere close. It also depends on where they went to school and how much they actually made per hour. I know people who are doing it and it is god awful to the mental and physical health.

I heard the second story yesterday and I’m still baffled on what sort of twisted beliefs the parents were trying to instill in their children. OP got a job to pay for his own things, showing how driven and responsible he was, and the parents punished him for it by extorting money from him for years. Meanwhile sister dearest doesn’t have a job, doesn’t pay rent, but she gets pampered by the parents. Good job to show who the favorites are. If they were trying to teach OP independence, self reliance, and that he can only trust himself then congratulations, they’ve succeeded and now OP wants nothing to do with them. And of course, his parents don’t take accountability for what they did, it’s somehow OP’s fault for not saying he didn’t like being extorted.

"You can't keep holding on to hatred and resentment forever!" Op literally just _broke up_ with this guy _one (1)_ year ago because he "didn't want to get married" and now not only is he in a new relationship already and _getting married,_ but the person in question is _her cousin_ and he _invited her to watch._ Op literally just found out about this. _They_ had time to process it, she did not. Story 1. NTA! Out of all of OPs family, her parent should 100% support her. My little sister went through the same thing with our cousin. The day my aunt found out her daughter broke up my sister's 5 year relationship, she lost it. My cousin swore they did start dating until after th3 break up, but we all knew she was lying. My aunt yelled at her daughter and told her she would never accept their relationship, and what she did was one of the worst things any family member could do to the other, whether the relationship started before or after the break up. FYI, my cousin broke up with him 5 months later when she caught him cheating on her.

“My extended family has been blowing up my phone since then” Why do so many of these stories have families that are capable of blowing up phones? How is it possible that 70% of people in these stories are explosive experts that can detonate a phone at a moment’s notice?
@ZombieSazza
@ZombieSazza 6 ай бұрын
Joke response: they maybe watched a tutorial online, maybe a WikiHow article like “How can I successfully create a phone bomb” Serious response: Honestly when I cut contact with my bio mother and brother my mothers sisters harassed TF out of me with messages, as did a bunch of my mothers questionable friends. I didn’t respond to any of them for days and they just kept messaging me how ungrateful I was, that I was spiteful, a horrible daughter, disgusting etc etc. I only ever responded once to each of them and it was with a novel length post I’d made (with receipts going back years showcasing their abuse) explaining my extremely depressing and violent childhood, how it led to both my PTSD and permanent nerve damage that’s left me with mobility problems, and friends commented backing up my lengthy post with their own experiences with my mother and brother (mother neglectful narcissist who “partied” with men, brother violent alcoholic who sent me to hospital many a time and R*ped several woman). I asked them why I would want to respond to her flying monkeys, and why I would want to even be in contact with such horrible people. They either: Sent more abuse Told me I should “get over it” because “she’s your mother” Only 3 apologised and wished me well in life Always wondered why so many of us have to deal with the flying monkeys but I think over the years I’ve realised that it’s because birds of a feather flock together, they’ve all accepted that behaviour as “normal” and grown up around it so harass anyone who tries standing up for themselves against abuse/harassment, because they expect the family punching bag to accept being harassed into oblivion.

S1: So...by "not following society's rules," I guess that includes not following the rules of "don't cheat with your cousin's bf." OP also didn't "hold on to her resentment" when they've all been lying about it for a year; she's only just found out. A year is not an unreasonable amount of time to still have some lingering feelings, be they of resentment, hurt, love, anger, etc. "My family is tight-knit and traditional, and my parents raised me to believe that family comes before everything else." Except when it comes to you, apparently. They all knew your cousin was cheating with your ex, but never demanded she stop hurting YOU? Was not surprised about the baby, tbh. That's the only reason this cat came out of the bag.

And when those two decided to get married, the parents needed OP to be there to look like one big happy family to their church and friends. Also, it’s badass that he took the money from his parents and blocked them after the money was in his account in the second story. I heard this read on another channel and people were judging him poorly for it, so it was good to hear there were people with actual brains that supported him for it. Her hatred and resentment is literally only A FEW SECONDS OLD. Like, can you imagine saying that in any other situation? Walk up to someone, punch them in the face and immediately go "Why are you still angry? You can't hold on to that anger forever." Also, If I was OP in that story, I'd phone up Taylor to get her side of the story. If she's a free spirit, she'd tell the truth because she doesn't care. Then OP would get her questions answered/closure. Edit: Glad someone else finally pointed that out.

Lmao support for what? I wouldn’t be going to that wedding and would be angry at everyone who’s stabbed me in the back. Barely ONE YEAR after OP was dumped by her ex and he cancelled their wedding, and he’s already gunna marry another woman who is her cousin, her COUSIN. OP has been backstabbed, heartbroken and betrayed by everyone who’s meant to love and care about her! Also what “hatred and resentment”, OP JUST found out! This doesn’t make OP a bad person either, she’s been let down by her entire family, her WHOLE FAMILY stabbed her in the heart and expect her to smile and deal with it. OP as someone who’s no contact with my own bio relatives (child abuse survivor) the best advice I can give is foster those relationships with your close friends, create your own family, choose who you want in your life, it sounds like you already have really close friends who are ride-or-die so just let them know how much you love and appreciate them, that you think of them as your family, let it go from there. My childhood best friend is my sister, her family took me on, Mammy Jo accepted me as her 4th daughter and they’ve been my family for the past couple of decades where I’m the very proud auntie of 4 wonderful children, my chosen family have always had my back and I feel pure love with them, and I hope you can choose a family out of those closest to you so you can feel the same OP. Also if you wanna be petty get the cheapest and nastiest looking dollar store card with “congratulations on your wedding, apologies I couldn’t make it, I’ll be there for your next one”

One of my exs had a shot gun wedding. We were on a "break" just after Christmas, they got together within a month of that, less than 6 months later she was noticeably pregnant, and gave birth I believe that November. She died the January after of stage 4 cancer. I found out a few years later about all of that. Did feel bad, her dream was to be a stay at home mom(that couldn't cook or clean) of 4+ kids. She finally gets her first kid and dies. Very religious family, pastor parents and all.

Sounds like the Cousin be the Golden Child of the Family...She might have the rule of not living by society's rules due to always being given everything (or is that the Family are enablers encouraging the cousins' Entitlement to anything she wants...?) So of course the Family wouldn't tell OP about what happened till its too close to the wedding ... That part is about Appearances... The Family wants her there so that everyone in the Family's Community will see that She (OP/ex-fiance) Is Okay with her cousin marring her ex-fiance. About the Ex Fiance... He completely cheated with the cousin... it was not a Mid-life anything ... Sounds like he was engaged to Op... got to know her family, saw that the cousin was the Family Favorite and behind OP's back got with the Cousin... and the Family knew before OP and the Ex broke up... but I could be wrong... OP should go on a trip with her Ride-or-Die friends during this wedding and go Low to No Contact with her "FaMily".

S2: my guess is the father had to take responsibility as a kid for his family and thought it was a good learning experience. Problem is the son did all the work but with no responsibility or respect which feels more like slavery. Now the dad knows how terrible of an outcome the experience was and doesn't want to put the other children what he made the oldest go through. That's rough. Not sure how OP can deal with that

While these are some seriously "crap parents" that isn't the driving force behind this all.

Why do ALL of these stories around exactly the same? Every family is full of people that get in everyone else's business. The parents are the worst as they spread the news to everyone and encourage distant family members to get involved and pressure someone or complain about something. Inevitably that person's phone blows up with complaints. It's every story and it's every time.

Story 1 is super explainable, cousin is the type of “doesn’t follow societies rules” person, who’s entire being is based on being different and getting attention, she cheated with her cousins fiancé, and her family basically said, “well she loses interest quick, this is a problem that’ll fix itself. Let’s not tell OP because it’s needles stress.” There’s where the “nothing good can come from you knowing about this.” Comes from, if it was A temporary problem, it would’ve fixed itself and op would be non the wiser. Instead she gets pregnant, and then the family immediately switches to, protect the baby mode. It’s more important for the baby’s mom to not be a whor’davor then it is for op to be treated with respect. If OP shuts up and attends, everyone will be quiet and accept babe narrative that nothing shady happened. If Op doesn’t attend, no unbiased attendee is going to believe the narrative.

S2: I found OP's list of college regrets, which were in his responses. It's not as bad as I remembered but I still don't think it's good. "F my parents, they stole 4 years of my life. I could have gone to parties. Meet women. Make friends and connections. Go on vacation. Go on spring break. Puke in the parking lot of a club. Sleep with the entirely wrong woman. Have my heart broken. Meet the love of my life. Break my finger playing flag football. Play intramural coed sports. Take a class that was interesting but not relevant to my profession. Experiment with my sexuality. Pass out on a beach. Take a year off to travel. Eat questionable food made in dorms by idiots. Make memories besides loading trucks, studying, and sleeping.... "I swear my parents better hope I am not in any way involved with their care when they are old. I will find the shadiest, most 60 Minutes, most Happy Gilmore retirement home I can find for them." Edit: from his comments OP claims to have ADHD and be on the spectrum. I could be wrong but I'm under the impression you are supposed to raise children like that by providing structure for them. This may have been their method, because it appears he wanted to go hog wild.

In short, he wanted to enjoy life, date, make friends, make mistakes, advance his career and invest his money for his future. Which his parents kept him from doing for *four years* by making him pay $750 per month for "rent". When budgeting, it's usually 50/30/20. 50% for needs. 30% for wants. 20% for savings. The "rent" was made seen by the parents as *needs,* when it was, in fact, *savings.* *That's not a good way to teach your child about financial responsibility. But it does seem like a way to financially abuse someone, even if one doesn't use the money.*

@@user-fg4tn8ot6b To be honest I don't think it was about fiscal responsibility, (I suspect it's about his ADHD and whether he would tank college in a sea of alcohol) but that's neither here nor there. I'm just hesitant to completely demonize his parents and their effects on him. OP is objectively still a young man in the best years of his life. There is nothing stopping him from doing most of the items on his list of regrets, especially since one of them was "take a year off." (And he speedran three items already: meet the wrong girl, fall in love, have his heart broken all in a single relationship) Reddit has no shortage of stories of people well into their middle ages living like complete idiots, and thanks to him having a sob story to tell his grandfather, he now has a sizable nest egg in which to do so.

What don't you think was good? He's expressing his regret for not having experienced college like most people experience college... do you think he's literally got a checklist that includes *breaking his finger* playing flag football? He's making a point, not literally saying these are all the exact things he wanted to do. That's not evidence that he wanted to go hog wild, it's him understanding that that period of your life is when people explore and make mistakes. I don't entirely disagree that his parents may have had good intentions, but they went way way overboard. At some point in those four years they probably should have realized that their demands were severely impacting his social and emotional growth (and considering all the stuff he was expected to pay for on top of an already unreasonably high rent, I'm surprised he even graduated).
@aoi8653

@@meagancall5005 I wrote a reply earlier which got deleted so I'm going to kind of repeat it a bit. I agree that his parents over did it, but I am hesitant to demonize them or catastrophize the effects of their actions. OP is still objectively a young man who is free to still make mistakes and learn more about himself. One of the items he wanted to do was take a year off, and because he had a sob story to tell his grandfather he now has a significant nest egg in which to do so. And he would be no further behind in his career than if he took that year off during college.
