My 1st thought was bride to be sis was trying to get them back together, like so many reddit stories we've heard of that backfired. (Still can't get over the one where the MOH was the only one not allowed to bring a plus one cause they were trying to set her up, despite her being in a serious relationship!) But after the story & how the bride didn't seem to do anything to fix it (uninviting the ex despite it being embarrassing, doing everything possible to ensure OP felt wanted, tell her if she wants a "shield" to bring a friend to hang with, etc) then I ended up feeling like it was the opposite problem. Sis didn't really want her at the wedding for some reason. Maybe she's secretly jealous of something in OP's life & didn't want to hear family & friends talking about it on "her day". She made sure OP "found out her plan" so that OP would get mad & not come.

I’m inclined to believe that OP’s sister didn’t want OP to be there to begin with, which is why she invited OP’s ex and loudly talked about inviting the ex where OP would be within earshot. That's always what they say "Oh my wife is such a nice person!" No, you means she's nice to YOU, someone she thinks of as worth the trouble, she is taking out her frustrations on waitstaff because they can't fight back. That's who she really is. legit the update for that one had the wife's response sounded like a passive-aggressive jab at the servers/workers with how she 'always tries to go above and beyond but she guesses not everyone else does' or whatever. I cringed at that because it sounds dismissive and that she gives off entitlement vibes or thinks what she did wasn't wrong at all. She also compared her (unnamed job) with waiting tables and such and how 'she goes above and beyond' at her job but doesn't realize the struggles and demanding nature of this job. Her job could be an office job where she doesn't have to deal with customers in person, one on one, and sit down most of the time, so its totally different. The 'above and beyond' she thinks is excessive and there is 'above and beyond' but there is still reasonable limits!

They even get free food out of it, rewarding terrible behaviour. Basically americans get the spoiled rotten treatment. I would go to the side and insist on paying for their meals and tipping the servers. But after that I flat out refused to be anywhere near them. I put myself through College as a server. The facepalm for that one left a welt on my forehead. So, if she's, say, a receptionist... does her boss ask her to do something, and then change what he asks her to do in 20 different ways every single time they ask for something, and then tell her she did it wrong several times? Because I guarantee if they did that, for SURE she would have an issue with it. That comment smelled of "I don't like my job, so I'm going to take that out on anyone I have power over". @@xelectrix Was about to comment this. A better parallel would be treating people like your slaves and exerting your power over them because they’re doing their job. Idk what the wife’s job is, but I’m sure one could come up with a better comparison than she did. If she’s a doctor, then it’s like having a patient who expects you to feed them their pills, write whatever prescriptions they want, and then hold their hand has you walk them out the door. If she’s a lawyer, it’s like having a client ask you to re-write the same thing 80 times even though the last edit says the same thing as the first one. If she’s an artist, it’s like having someone commission a piece, only for them to make her do it a ton of times over even though there are no issues and it’s exactly what they asked for. And even then those examples aren’t accurate because artists can make someone pay more for redraws, lawyers are paid hourly, and you can’t force doctors to write your prescriptions or come into the office every time you take a pill because coming into the office is itself expensive. So she’s doing all that, and they get NO EXTRA PAY- that is, unless the husband continues with the itemised bills.

As a somewhat picky eater, I've learned how to make adjustments to the taste of my food at the table. At an Italian restaurant I'll taste the red sauce and then frequently have to reach for sugar. Then I can take the taste of the tomato sauce. I really like when an Italian restaurant has Cacio e Pepe on the menu. It's like an Italian mac & cheese. At a steak house I ordered a steak well done which seemed to horrify the waitress. When it was served I ask if the had a steak sauce and was told the they didn't serve sauce with THEIR meat. Fortunately the salad dressings were still on the table. I scooped up some Thousand Island dressing and improved the taste of my steak. I thought the waitress was going to have a heart attack. She trotted over to the grill to tell the grill chef how I desecrated the meat. Generally, my approach to restaurant food was if I order it, but I don't like it, I'll eat it anyway and never order it again. And nowadays, I don't eat out due to health concerns.

Story 2 is so sad for me to hear. She's definitely been emotionally abused, she talks like how I did back when I lived with my father. But my father was bad enough that when he tried to physically harm my sister he twisted what happened so much it was my fault he tried to hurt her. As for the dog, op never wanted one and just tolerates it, why is cleaning up after it her responsibility? That should be up to whoever wanted the dog.

you're being an armchair psychologist over one instance. Nothing about this screams emotional abuse. Also if it's her pad being ripped up she should pick it up, there's so many solutions that weren't being thought of, she could put it in the bin in her room, tell her parents to get a bin with a lid or shut the bathroom door. Not one person in that house used their brain to find a solution

That being said, the dog can and should be trained to stay tf out of the trash can.

There’s another relatively easy solution for the wrapped up sanitary pad story. Get a shaker of cayenne pepper and every time you throw a pad in the garbage, sprinkle it with cayenne. Just about guaranteed that the dog will leave it alone because he will not like cayenne getting in his nose. Tell your dad that buying some cayenne pepper will save his plumbing. It really does work!

Story 2: Something that bothers me is that OP mentions "nearly unbearable pain". That's not normal period pain. I wonder if she may have endometriosis. It would be good for her to get a diagnosis early and treatment now, so she doesn't have decades of suffering ahead of her. I thought it was normal for me to have to crawl to the bathroom at 14 bc I was hurting so badly, which it obviously is not. But I'd never been told otherwise. I just got diagnosed with endo earlier this year at 32 (after a cancer scare bc there was so much endometrial tissue my Dr thought it was a uterine mass). I'm currently recovering from a hysterectomy bc my ovaries, fallopian tubes, and uterus were all fused together, and fused to my bowel. The pain in the years leading up to that was constant and debilitating. -1000/10 If you have a suspicion, I highly suggest you do your best to pursue a diagnosis sooner than later!

Completely agree, though in the US good luck with that honestly. Especially if she's so young. Doctors are getting better about it, but still seem less likely to listen to kids. Even then from my understanding, testing doesn't always find it the furst time around. I've been tested multiple times as I suffer from heavy and painful periods. Every time they've told me that they didn't see endo but that it may still be growing and not detectable with ultrasound yet. Though have gotten a PCOS diagnosis out of it which can cause heavy and painful periods. Also skipping periods but that didn't start till my 20s and was, up to that point, regular with my cycle even if it was unusually heavy and painful.

Yes, I picked up on that as well. I think a lot of women have been led to believe that extremely painful periods are the norm and we just have to put up with them. We do not, and plenty of women don't suffer in that way. Nobody should have to put up with extreme pain.

Story 3 - the way you treat service people is very telling because most think of them as below them. So yeah she's a nice and kind person to those she deems worthy or equal to her, but not the peasants below her. Also the last line really made me annoyed. She didnt think it was bad because she always meets expectations in her job. As if the wait stafd and kitchen staff aren't at expected levels? This isn't typing an email or letter up. No one knows that you only want 3 cubes of ice not 4 in your drink. Or you wanted 60% seasoning not 75%. Plus OP clearly stated she sent food back that was exactly as ordered so it was at expected level yet still not to her standards. Nah shes a snobby AH.

Period story: using tampons won't stop the dog eating them. The dog will just swallow the tampons and then die when the tampon inflates and blocks its intestines. Discipline the damn dog and bar its access from the bathroom instead of shaming your daughter. Properly trained dogs don't go rooting around for food or trash when you're not looking. Also, if your daughter is uncomfortable with you talking about her period, then it is inappropriate to continue to do so. ALSO, not using tampons is not a matter of 'growing the f up.' Plenty of grown women don't use tampons because it either hurts or gives them infections. Dad needs to shut his mouth on things he knows nothing about. Never let anyone make you think you're somehow immature or childish for not using tampons. God that makes me mad.

I got a bit annoyed at her glib justification, "she goes above and beyond at work and didn't understand other people don't feel that way." If you don't understand the difference between how your job works, and how a public restaurant has to function, you aren't paying attention. And sending a drink back for too many ice cubes isn't demanding excellence from your server, it's being a jerk. Her justifications, and his defense of her, don't make it for me.
