I’ve also worked with buyers when shipping cards to put a different name on the shipping label. I don’t like shipping to addresses with the words “cards, “sports cards” or “grading” or something similar in their name. I think it makes it more likely to be stolen when the package has those words on the address.

“What’s the lowest you’ll go?” is one of the most annoying phrases that somebody can ask me. I do the exact same thing as you said “what is the most that you will pay?”
@MarketMoversАй бұрын
That's my exact reply too. If I were a dealer I'd do something playful like put up a sign: I’m here to sell, let’s strike a deal, Negotiation has appeal. But don’t ask me, “What’s your lowest?” Or away from my booth I'll tell you to go-est!

Why does it matter how anyone words their negotiations? As long as they're serious about purchasing what you have, I don't see the problem.
@stringsandthings4325Ай бұрын
@@vintagecollector5340 There are a ton of nuanced reasons why it isn’t okay to just straight up ask that without any other communication. Those kind of questions almost never lead up to a sale either. Let’s say you are negotiating with a card that you priced at 100 dollars and you have it at market value, here is how 99% of those conversations go: “what is the lowest you will go on that” “well I have it priced fairly well at market value, but I could go 90 if you are interested”. At this point either one of two things will probably occur. They will either just simply walk away, or they will shoot you a lowball offer at 60 or 70 bucks and then get upset because you didn’t take their horrible offer. A person who asks what’s the lowest you’ll go on something is never serious in my opinion. Also I am sure that everyone who is reading this and who has sold at a card show would agree.

Cool video. I have to admit that my biggest problem is that I am not sure if I am really a collector or an investor. I have been collecting anew since early 2019 and the problem that you run into is that if you fall in-between, you never quite satisfy your collector gene, but at the same time you end up paying a premium for a really cool card. In all candor, I spent more money on cards than I would have liked to this year, but less than I have in the last 4 years. I have been more tactical in my purchases leaning toward greater stores of value. For instance, I am aware of your personal collection of Andre Drummond cards, and my kryptonite is Corbin Carroll. I guess what I am trying to say is that collecting cards is fun as is grading cards... remember, there is always a piper to be paid.
@MarketMoversАй бұрын
There's no need to pick between being a collector or investor! You can do both. It helps to set boundaries for yourself and goals. Like, "I will never own more than [X] cards of Corbin..." and for yourself to sell one when you buy a new one.

wrong - take any collection from 30 years ago. if you sold it then, you would have more money today. 95% of any collection turns out to be crap. open any pack of cards from 5-10 years ago. there all garbage. sell when you get it. go back and buy the hof rookies after they prove themselves as those keep going up

Communication is the biggest want any buyer wants on eBay. I wanna know when my card is being shipped out especially if it’s over $4 in shipping costs. Golden rule for shipping time should always be within 24/48 hours of purchase. If you can’t ship out a card in that time frame, then stop selling cards on eBay, bc you had the time list it. Also I’ll add to never use scotch tape, never use clear packing tape as well!

USPS 1st class mail is an accountable item, not just registered mail. So if you spend the money and send first class, you can basically expect it to get to its destination for the most part. Expensive sure, but definitely worth it. As it’s placed in possession of each person along the way rather than just thrown in the bin with the rest of the stuff..
@MarketMoversАй бұрын
Unfortunately that is definitely not true. USPS 1st class packages get lost, stolen, damaged, etc. every day. Theft is a MAJOR issue with USPS, especially coming and going from grading facilities or large consignment companies. And making insurance claims can be difficult or even impossible in some cases.

i agree with most! You can not tell some to lower the price of a card. To be with market movers?! Or angry if they do not! Prices go up just has fast as they go down. With older cards there is a extra grade of centering(less then psa Oc). I just saw 2 graded psa 6 m. mantles cards have 300$ difference solely based on how the card was centered. Maybe the guy bought the card for 2k and can not get a lose(yet). Maybe some has ten mantles of the same grade. he floods the markets. Everyone should lower the price, because one person is selling a mantle card every month? Maybe! or maybe they are waiting to see? Rest of your video was great.

As a seller/dealer… comps aren’t the end all be all. If it’s a common base chrome/prizm Psa 10, sure…. But cards with rarity there can be a wide range of prices, over months, with just a few transactions. If I’m 30% over comps , when there is zero way to buy the card elsewhere, it’s not a terrible price. Especially if a player has gone up in the last 30-60 days.

Great video… but the value of a card is not the auction price or even the next-to-last auction bid, it’s the median amount between what the seller receives and what the buyer pays. In a card auction, that’s going to be +/- 10% less than the buyer’s price. Big mistake to just focus on what the buyer pays.
@MarketMoversАй бұрын
Thanks for the comment! How does what the seller receives impact what bidders are willing to pay? Value is derived from what someone pays, not from what a seller receives. I think you're conflating revenue with value. The two are not the same. I have never, as part of considering a card purchase or in a negotiation, said - "well this card last sold on Goldin for $1,000...BUT the seller only got $800 so the card is only worth $900."

I don't understand why people are that bothered by the "what's your best price?". If you have a $700 card for sale, I'd rather not waste time negotiating with someone that's going to make a $400 offer. id rather save time and say my true lowest which could be $650 or a little over like $675 just to make a little room to negotiate to make them feel good. If you'd dealing wiyh with a real negotiater, he's probably going to negotiate you to your best price anyway. If he's a lowballer, it's just a waste of time negotiating with him to begin with
@MarketMoversАй бұрын
Negotiation is a back and forth. If a seller already has a card stickered, as a potential buyer you need to make an offer. Walking up and just asking "what's your best price" is lazy and disrespectful. I understand wanting to not waste your time, but if a seller already took time to price out their cards...why would they then negotiate with themselves?
