@miks564

Reliability used to depend on the brand. And within the brand, it varies with the type of engine and transmission. I have no experience with the American brands of the group, but the European brands, specially the ones from the old Fiat group have been good. Now that they're all going to share same platforms, same tech, we will have to see how that plays out. It's a different game, different formula, different results. Reliability is not something "fixed within a brand". That's perhaps the mind set of the customers, not reality. For instance, VW used to be very reliable 50 years ago, but then they kind of lost their way 20+ years ago.

The biggest issue with Stellantis and Tavares touched on this, is the E.V. requirement and the cost of their vehicles. Stellantis does not have any affordable entry level vehicles. They have a ton of small vehicles in every market other then America and Canada. When a young consumer does not have an affordable option they will go elsewhere and if they like that vehicle they will buy a higher priced vehicle from that manufacture. He over inflated our cars price with subpar quality that’s why sales are down in the US. Furthermore He’s trying to kill off our brands and he’s already said he’s cutting 30% of US jobs and has the nerve to sell off our Chrysler corporate office in Michigan. 😡 We don’t like him because our Chrysler brands needs to stay American so that means we should build and design our vehicles in our country not some rebadged European crap. Example the so called Dodge Hornet aka a rebadged Alfa made in Italy. WE DONT WANT IT! There’s a reason why Fiat and Pougot has failed dismally in our country in the past because we DONT want their products and we know the Europeans make junk cars. I stumbled on news about ridiculously expensive Jeep/RAM recently, some models so expensive like entering Porsche territory. So this guy imagined he could rebrand Jeep/RAM like overnight and charge so. I am not into trucks but I know that much Jeep/RAM were always a bit lagging GM and Ford, but could offer tempting deals to stay afloat. And the guy doubled down on that, according to pricing and heritage, Jeep/RAM should be something like a Porsche experience with Toyota reliability (at least of recent past) to justify prices in terms of image to start with. In terms of sales that is not going to happen. And I doubt he managed to raise quality so much just based on the fact how long Japanese charged quite a bit less for decades as Japan after WW2 did not have a reputation for quality. At least he is right about EVs of now.

So he says some of the right things. Seems to understand the business, somewhat at least. Actions displayed by Stellantis in recent history, on the other hand, demonstrate a profound lack of understanding of the car business. Kill the Cherokee without a replacement planned? Kill the Charger & Challenger and replace them with electric cars? Huge price increases across the board? Has anybody in charge at that company ever even MET one of their customers? They function as if they are absolutely clueless. Kill the V8 when a huge percentage of their core buyers are "V8 only" people. Ford, GM, Toyota, etc continue to produce compliant V8s so they can't blame it on the EPA if they are actually telling the truth. These and many other corporate decisions are not just little miscues that could have been called either way & still been at least partially good decisions. As a former GM owner who transformed all our vehicles over to FCA vehicles a few years ago, I am transitioning back to GM as quickly as possible. Stellantis has zero chance of survival under this incompetent management team.

Chinese are not that competitive at all in Europe. Even BYD pricing is at least 20% to high. Nio needs cut of 50% at least. Chinese competitiveness is overrated at this point in time...

This guy doesn't understand that here in the United States, we do not want your BS EV cars. Also, we do not want to overpay for trucks or cars. Also, the Chinese vehicles are EV, and if the cost is low, it doesn't mean that they will sell well. I see more Chinese EV vehicles catch fire then domestic ones.

If a jeep wasn't 100k and was more around 60k they would have this problem. Plus dealer ain't dealing. They are holding on to vehicles over 2 years and try to sell them as used at 9% interest. They just need to listen to the costumers and sell their vehicles.

Wishful thinking. Few in the US want electric cars. That market is saturated and the infrastructure is inadequate. Car manufacturers need to move to hydrogen engines or synthetic fuels.

Being from Europe, I have no prejudice against European brands, in fact, I've been preferring Italian cars all my life because of the Fiat group engineering (FPT). Which means, I'll not remain a Stellantis client since it seems almost all their ICE will be the Puretech from the old PSA group. If it's ICE, I want an italian engine. If it's EV, I only consider Tesla. So there you go.

High margins and affordability don't go together. Stellantis does not understand that, it's a volume game, they need to use economies of scale and need to be competitive with their pricing which they are not. GM market share in NA keeps rising, and Stellantis' keeps dropping; how much market share can they lose until they realize that their strategy is not working.

A few short years ago, when a typical consumer like myself compared an FCA vehicle (Grand Cherokee for example) with anything in the GM fleet, there were valid reasons to buy the Jeep, and I did. Today - absolutely not so. Given Jeep's excessive pricing these days, you can get a better vehicle from GM for the same $, hands down.

Stellantis acquired a bunch of European brands because it’s cheaper and easier, especially since they used government loans, rather than developing their own platforms and models. But all of this needs to be managed, and it seems like they’re struggling; the American management model isn't working. As a result, there will be layoffs in Europe and the U.S., and ordinary people will lose their jobs.

I don’t think than Ev price is the only problem. The real issue is that EVs are functionallly worst than ICE and they do not add so tangible advantages. The so called transition is more likely a sort of rebalancing in engine and energy type. The price is not the cause but I think the consequence of a bigger problem.

If it’s not taboo to cut brands off, Tavares should just sell Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep, and Ram (along with the rights to Plymouth, Imperial, AMC, etc.) to Mr. Frank B. Rhodes right now. He obviously doesn’t care about America, Chrysler’s employees, or just making good products in general, so he should sell them off to someone who does.
