If they don't have arial roots yet could you still make a cut between nodes?

yes i have done that many times and the clippings all grew

I have Ludwigia and planted it in a sand substrate. Not sure if that's a good thing or not. I have noticed that my Ludwigia is losing leaves towards the bottom of the plant but the top of the plant has leaves. Need to trim them but am afraid that when I trim them since there is no leaves on the bottom of the stem it will no longer grow and die. This is my first time with this plant. I got it because it was supposed to be beginner friendly. Also, my leaves are turning yellow and I'm not sure if I should be fertilizing it more often. Would love your help
