I have got colors on stainless by running the focus about 3mm out of focus and that will make some different colors. Also lasering on titanium makes some beautiful colors.! Nice vids

Interesting....I haven't yet set the focus that far out, I'll have to give it a try. What kind of settings do you use on titanium to produce color?

@@jefferyj ill send you some settings when i go back to work. I have them saved on the computer.

@@jefferyj run focus 5mm out of focus. Speed 550 power 80 freq as high as it will go. Line spacing .03mm dont cross hatch or mark contour or follow edge. Single line hatch. My laser is a 50w raycus using a 4in x 4in field lense.

@@joshthesquash1793 Thanks Josh, I'll give this a try. You have quite a bit more power than me with the smaller field and 50w source, I'll give this a shot and see what happens....many thanks for the information!

@@jefferyj He is correct. I have the 20w switched, same as you, and we regularly color titanium. Not the range of colors from a MOPA but with +5 mm out of focus and making a "polish pass" first (1000s, 80f, 100p out of focus of course) we can manage a gold tone, an indigo blue, orangish, light blue (actually a range of blues) and yellows just by changing the speed and sometimes making multiple passes. Multiple passes will let you deepen the color, even change it at times. Blues seem to respond best to the 150-300 speed range if I recall.

Really interesting mate. Just goes to show that even without a mopa you can still make colour! How deep can you engrave a word into aluminium do you think? As the only reason I’m looking at the mopa lasers is due to the black marking on aluminium. As always your videos are superb and full of information!

Thanks! Check out this video to get a sense of the depth that can be reached in aluminum in a relatively short amount of time: kzbin.info/www/bejne/h2rJmKV4iZtkmpI . I suspect it wouldn't be any different with letters than the circle. I don't blame you about the MOPA...I've never used one but the charcoal mark thath I can make on bare aluminum isn't quite the same as a full black. I'm not sure it's worth the price difference though.

I wonder if this can be cut.with the 50w laser? Very intresting

Do you have Raycus or JPT laser source? I heard you have more luck with colors with JPT like I have
@RiderRickMaker3 жыл бұрын
The question is... And how do you cut it? My SS keeps curling, I tried everything, I do cut SS with a 50w one (1mm thick) but the cuts aren't really clean... And at some point the sheet bends.. (maybe with some fixtures I would solve the problem.. But still..

Is this basically surface texturing / Frosting? I'm trying to find some examples of China fiber lasers being able to do that similar to those super expensive German Acsys lasers.

Yes, there's no depth to these marks. Some people refer to it as an annealed mark rather than an engraving.

Jeffrey, I designed a logo in cad. (Dxf) imported it but it would not hatch right. Any tips?
@jefferyj5 жыл бұрын
You probably have open contours. Depending on what program you're using to export the DXF the method of ensuring all lines are intersecting will be a little different. Also, delete any stray paths. I find Adobe Illustrator files exported in AI3 format are the easiest to deal with in ezcad.

Try Speed 1250 Power 17%, FRQ 55, hatch 0 degrees at .002mm produces a nice blue coating with iridescent

Where do you get your files like the American flag one
@jefferyj4 жыл бұрын
Anywhere, you just need to vectorize them so it marks quickly.
