Hi Alex, I’m interested in this type of engraving for precious metals. Would you mind if I asked how much you would have charged your customer for this service? I understand that if you weren’t doing a educational clip at the same time you would finish it off a lot quicker but I’d like to calculate if the investment in a fiber laser is worthwhile compared to hand engraving using gravers. Thanks

I like your videos. I am thinking of buying a Laser called SCULPFUN S9 Laser because I can not afford such a nice laser as you have. Do you think that this 90w laser can do as good a job as yours. Can you perhaps explain the difference?
@LaserEverything3 жыл бұрын
90w is a LOT of power, what do you want such a high power laser for? The difference between manufacturers is stark. Buying a high quality laser is important in this industry. Wiring quality, fiber optics quality are two big areas where you see a big difference between higher end machines and the cheap ones. You also get more reliable power supply units and with the super cheap lasers you often get knock off laser sources which is the box generating the laser. There's a very long list of reasons why you should spend more. Save for more time if you can and put some extra money away, then make your purchase. Not only are super cheap fibers unreliable, they can be dangerous with melted wires and fiber optics. Be careful!

@LaserEverything2 жыл бұрын
Rather than using a cross hatch I used the second hatch with an opposite hatch angle. Cross hatch is fine too, however you want to do it.
@ITD_RO2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the clarification. Your final hatch looks really good. One of my friends bought a 50W laser machine and after 3 months of playing with it we cannot get a nice looking hatch on gold. On silver looks ok but on gold far from what it should be. The only way to get a clean filled text on gold is to import the text in ezcad like a picture and engrave it like that (with the settings used for photos). It looks good and it takes even less time. Photos look ok either on gold or silver.. the problem is that as far as I know you cannot engrave photos/pictures using the rotary tool. So for inner and outer ring engraving the only solution is to use hatch. What I did and looked nice was only to engrave the text contour after applying an 0.05mm offset 3 or 4 times, so you get a thicker contour.

@scottdeaussie2 жыл бұрын
I’m a jeweller and I’d be inclined to weigh the piece before and after engraving and see how much metal is actually removed by the process. Once you know how much (or how little) you can extrapolate knowing how much precious metal engraving you actually do per week/year and from that you can calculate the return versus the cost of specialised extraction system/filters and refining of the metals. I usually only refine my lemel (scrap metal filings) once a year and it’s worth saving but I don’t know if it’s removed from the original piece as a vapour or as small molten pieces? I’m very interested in finding out myself!

In ezcad, you can do this a few ways. Like we did, can outline with the border box removed in software so only name is selected, or using mark select and only selecting the name and not the border box and framing. In lightburn, there are several framing options within the frame menu which can output a general square frame, tight exterior outline, or a more detailed shape of the components of a design, also adding in you can use the cut selected graphics as a equal use case to the mark select in ezcad, functioning the same way. Hope that helps!

@LaserEverything3 жыл бұрын
A 30w or 50w fiber laser will do just fine. You don't need anything with fancy frequency modulation because silver isn't ferrous so no need for a MOPA or anything like that. Hey i have a 30w fiber laser, which settings do you use for marking & then placing a nice white polish :)?
@LaserEverything3 жыл бұрын
Same settings just hit it with more passes to go deeper.

Hello can anyone tell me that.. While engraving name on 10 gm of ring how many gold loss will done ?can we recover all loss?
@emergencystop3 жыл бұрын
The laser is vaporizing the gold so there's no way to really recover the loss but if you're doing an engraving as fast and shallow as shown in the video the weight loss is going to be negligible.

Hey Alex, if you are deep engraving, it leaves the surface rough, how do you treat the piece then? Thanks
@LaserEverything3 жыл бұрын
Usually a pass of something like steel white finish (fast and medium power, medium frequency) will flatten it out a little after you reach the required depth, it's not perfect but it helps. You can also go in and straight up polish the engraving. If you go deep enough before polishing it won't remove the engraving, I'm not a jeweler though and there are probably better resources for that info out there :'D

taking the opportunity, would you have any video about photo recording using only ezcad or corel + ezcad? what configuration do you use of power, speed and frequency you used in the 30w?

@@LaserEverything very good, yes i already entered the discord, very good there. I asked in the fiber laser chat, if you can share I appreciate it :) Because I'm really in a hurry :/ I have some graduation symbols to engrave the background in bas-relief like in the photo I posted there. my user is bugnotto. I've only used Corel draw a couple times and have quite a bit of learning to do before I feel confident about making video about it! I don't even own a legit copy of it lol I will try to prioritize this and work on it for you though. Most vector editing software works more or less the same the buttons just have different names. Have you watched my episode on artwork for engravers?

There's a new video out on setting up your system for the first time which you may find helpful. Could cover things you haven't uncovered for yourself yet.

I do not have a laser but I have a question before I decide to buy one: Is there any depth or is it just a surface color manipulation? I heard about laser deep engraving. It is real engraving or just a kinda printing on the surface? Sorry for my newbie question.
@LaserEverything3 жыл бұрын
Depends on the laser that you get and what materials you're working on, what did you want to be able to do deep Engraving on?

@@LaserEverything Hi. Thank you for the fast reply.I want to engrave silver, brass, aluminum. Maybe gold in the future.
@LaserEverything3 жыл бұрын
Any fiber laser would be able to engrave those deeply :) You are not restricted to surface marks when using a fiber laser. For info on which one you should buy check out my 2021 buying guide link here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/j2jXnKGLntR_rbs Lower wattage machines may take longer to achieve a super deep depth, but all of these lasers will be removing material from an item, not just marking the surface (with the exception of plastics, of course - this machine is for metals). Also feel free to join the discord (link in the description) with any other questions you may have. -Alex
