Thanks so much. I will never complain about the cost for having pad work done again! Looks like every penny is well earned!

It's very time consuming for sure-and will test one's patience. Cheers!

Am I correct in assuming that the proper amount of pad protrusion is determined by how much backing, with whole shims, the pad needs in order to rest on the tone hole rim the best it can, and that keeps any needed partial shimming to a minimum? In other words, you shouldn't start with a predetermined amount of protrusion, because that may force you to do extra shimming which leaves the pad unevenly protruded - right?

How such leaks occured in the first place? Damaged pad or curved leveling or previous shims not thick enough so pads where not enough outside?

I wish it were that simple. Each pad has to be set very exactingly to get proper coverage. It's very challenging, time consuming work and can test one's patience.

Do you use different thickness feeler gauges to figure out shim thickness?
@jlsmithco6 жыл бұрын
This is a reasonable approach and some do this. I personally use only a .005" and a .001" thick feeler. Leaks thicker than this I can judge fairly well by eye using the light.

jlsmithco Thank you for your reply. I'm just working through some training on flutes and every little hint helps!

I tried following your video, but the background noise is a big distraction. What purpose was all that music supposed to serve? Viewers of this video want technical information, not musical entertainment.
