My Grandmother sadly just passed a month ago and I just had to go through the untouched belongings of my Grandmother who passed in 2007 this week. Losing a grandparent is hard because not only are you losing someone but you're also having to support your parent who is losing their parent. And that can be difficult to do while processing your own grief. At least you were able to be there in person with your mom and extended family so were able to process it together and give your grandmother the peaceful send off she deserved.

As Mark said, family comes first and should be important... if it is to *you* only. Not everyone has a loving family, and some people don't even HAVE families. Not all of us have that luxury. He has a good heart, and even though family is important to him, he still wanted to clarify that not putting biological families first is totally okay for people who struggle with that pain. Trust me, none of us want to hate our families--nobody is that desperate to be alone unless they have an antisocial disorder--but you have to keep in mind that some people really do not want to nor cannot afford to go flying out to see family whenever we want to. Hell, a grandma of mine died a few years back and her own son (my father) didn't shed one tear. Nobody went to her funeral because she was that big of a piece of shit. I wasn't sad about her passing; I never met her and I never wanted to. Sometimes, family isn't important. And that is okay. You sound like you love your family and that passion is a really good thing. I hope your family gets even bigger and lovelier. We could all use more of that.
