I think it's really cool that for once, the training actually feels like training. It's not used to spook. The audio transcription trainer is a really unique thing that makes sense that agents would need to know and practice. There were numerous versions of this technique that were deployed many times during early filming (and still gets used even to this day) to get around having to shoot a "nighttime" scene during daylight hours, largely due to budgetary and/or lighting issues.

I did creative media in college, and I would have to add a "night" effect during editing, or you couldn't see anyone in the dark. Even if you brightened the scene, it would come out too bright.

It's also sometimes VERY funny because once you know to look for it, you can pretty easily find bad day-for-night shots where everything is just. A sunny day but blue.
