Hi Mark, This was a really great video, I’ve bought the same system and will be using this video to help install it in the next couple of weeks. You spoke about security measures and camera passwords etc, that sounded really interesting. If you’re up to diving a little further into that in another video I’m sure there would be a bunch of people who’d benefit from it. Cheers!

cool vid. I just got this same system a week ago. haven't installed it yet, it appears I have a lot of stuff to learn even before the install. I guess my first lesson is going to be about the camera PoE cables. all will need the water protectors on the cables and of coarse I will have to go buy the tools to do it. thanks, I will be using this vid as I go through this adventure..

@@nogripes ok. I just ordered a pack of ends and the crimp tool. I've seen a few vids that also say the cables are not the best they could be. so I think I may just get a whole reel of wire and make up my own.

Mount an round electrical box, on the soffit. Put the cover on, drill the holes. Then mount the camera onto the cover. That will drop the camera 2 inches, and that will help with the reflection.

Hi mark. You mentioned you would do another vid on getting the camera feeds on your TV. I can’t find one , did you do one ? If not can you please give the highlights here , I have an LG smart TV , is there a good RTSP app , I’m guessing it’s something along those lines ? You probably sold it by now.

Is your Smart TV in another room from the NVR? How did you get the cameras views on the Smart TV. Did you have to run a HDMI cable from the NVR to the TV? I would like to see the camera views on my Smart TV that is in another room from the NVR.

Purchased a reolink "plug and play" set off amazon. (4 cameras and an NVR with some cables to link everything.) Can i just plug the NVR into my poopy wirless router, and the cameras into the NVR and get it running? The router has a "wan" port and two "lan" ports. 1 and 2. Thats all the ports other than the power cord. Is this enough to get started or do i need a switch?

recently bought reolink nvr with 1 camera to test. it is easy to setup both on NVR, phone and PC. But the biggest issue is they only have a customer service email no on the phone customer service. They charge for setup/config. Tech support is from India and super rude. When I ask to speak with supervisor, the phone screener told me no and hang up on me. Think twice before you buy reolink, you have no way to rise issue.

How long do you think the HDD will last? Wondering what the life expectancy of these are, I hear 24/7 surveillance is hard on drives.
@TheRickJames
@TheRickJames 4 жыл бұрын
Mechanical hard drive have come a long way, I've been installing these systems for years and usually I have cameras fail due to the elements or they upgrade long before the drive fails. Playback(and your computer) is actually harder on hard drive due to the random I/O, devices like this however mostly have sequential continuous writes over a long time which is actually much better than the random spin downs etc other hard drive uses have constantly. NVR drives like the WD Purple line are designed specifically for this application and last in excess of 5 years in most cases. I wouldn't worry about drive failure.

@@TheRickJames 5e good for awhile or should one go 6, or better, for future proofing?
@TheRickJames
@TheRickJames 4 жыл бұрын
@@scottb_02 I use 5e, but honestly due to the compression used on the cameras you can't even saturate a regular cat 5 cable. On the highest setting most cameras only use about 8.7mbps. Now for the lan input on the NVR use cat5e because it can saturate a gigabit connection.
@scottb_02
@scottb_02 4 жыл бұрын
@@TheRickJames thanks for the reply! I just don’t want to run cables again in say 10 years when I’ve upgraded the cameras a few times, thoughts?
@TheRickJames
@TheRickJames 4 жыл бұрын
@@scottb_02 I still think Cat5e will be a good choice. But if you have the extra money Cat6a STP would be more futureproof. But i still have old cat5 at several sites that I've upgraded to new 5mp cameras with no issues. Usually your balancing the bitrate settings anyway to have them run smoother. So if they are capable of 5m 30fps @ 8725kbps, I usually have them running at 15fps @ 6144 so that device and switches they are connected to dont have to work so hard. Especially if your not using gigabit switches.

Hi Mark, I saw a lot of bad reviews about the company on a few websites. About 50/50 good and bad regarding quality and customer service. That said, I have a coworker who regularly installs these systems on the weekends. So, I'm torn. Seeing as this video was uploaded in 2020 and you've presumably had a good amount of run time with it, would you still suggest it as a good base model system for a home? Thanks in advance.

@pmmfamiliesaccount5747

Mark Jenkins yeah but when the powers out for any length of time you’re screwed. Wifi cameras have local memory card, battery backup and are powered by the sun. Also older buildings, with heritage constraints, often can’t be cabled. Finally you have to be mindful of security of cable access otherwise simple to disable PoE cameras.
