Great score finding it on the side of the road. Also, a great video showing what you found and the repair you made. it's great you got it producing power. Now, just a observation from the video. The Tecumseh 10 HP needs exhaust valve work. From what I heard, there was a lot of popping from the exhaust and the generator was rocking back and forth on it's rubber mounts. This is a very common problem (exhaust valve) with the Tecumseh engines. I would suggest to you that you lap the valves and reset the clearance before you run it when it's needed most (power failure) and the exhaust valve burns up (fails to seat). At that point, the repair gets expensive. I am not knocking anything here. Just a observation. I look for generators sitting on the side of the road. You SCORED!!!!!!!!. Me, not so lucky,,,,,,,,,
@MittyNuke14 жыл бұрын
You sure the exhaust popping wasn't from running it with the choke (partially) on? Right around 7:20 it looks like he adjusts something and suddenly the engine runs way better for a few seconds right before he shuts it down. Idk, i'm not an expert on these but just sounded like if you put the choke on when it's already warmed up.

Great Find,,Crank that engine speed just a bit to 61.5 Hertz, You cant do anything about the voltage with no regulator. Sound good with choke open.

I’m changing out the diode and capacitor on same model. Still no voltage output but I didn’t take note of where to hook the wires up on the diode. Could you comment on here where to put the wires? Thanks.

Should there be 120 or 240 volts ac across the brushes even if there is a problem in the board? It is an easy place to check.

I have one of these 5000w Colmans that has (2) 110v and (2) 220v and (2) Circuit Breaker Buttons. I just lost the 220v side. No Circuit breaker tripped.
@newstart494 жыл бұрын
There was a recall on the gas tanks on units 1999 and earlier- leakage. Would be nice to get that voltage down to at least 122v- above that starts to shorten the life of some appliances/motors.

Hey dude great score! but it has one more issue when you cranked it the engine and generator shook way too much. One of the rubber attachments is broken or is worn out. check 4:57 to see what i am referring too. then check your engine mounts. congratulations on the great find and fix.

Thomas D Harrell yeah he said that the rectifier terminal broke due to engine vibration. He was well aware of the mounts. Look at 1:56

www.newark.com/multicomp/mccm2502-rh/bridge-rectifier-single-phase/dp/10M6170 were the ones I bought and were the exact replacement part number originally in this generator, but it seems this specific rectifier is now discontinued. I'm sure you can find an equivalent based on it's specs, assuming your generator uses the same one.
@VintageStuff5 жыл бұрын
In theory, this appears to be an equivalent substitute. www.newark.com/solid-state/kbpc2502/bridge-rectifier-single-phase/dp/10P1407

@@VintageStuff , thanks so much, can you tell me where those two yellow wires get attached to ? I have an older version that came to me wired wrong and I need to know how to put the exciter circuit together. Thank you,
@VintageStuff5 жыл бұрын
@@paulg444 On mine the yellow leads connect to the rectifier when you reattach the end housing.
@paulg4445 жыл бұрын
@@VintageStuff many thanks, so the yellow leads provide/supply AC input voltage to the rectifier, then the DC output of the rectifier gets fed to brushes where it excites the armature/rotor.

You have to be careful with these generators in order for them to make120 volts of power the engine must be turning out of steady 3600 RPMthe only reason why the generator would be making more than a hundred and twenty volt is that the engine is turning faster than 3600 RPM this causes it also to make like 70 cycles instead of 60 cycle power
@urbanmacdonald79014 жыл бұрын
I also forgot that if you run anything on this generator and is turning faster than what it should be making more power and the cycles are greater than 60 you will burn out whatever you're using this will wreck TVs and other sensitivehe will also ruin circular size as I have learned the hard way

Is this generator brushless and capacitor type?
@stab2killnecks6 жыл бұрын
Lost Life It has brushes and a capacitor.
@dougnutter84525 жыл бұрын
Technically, this is an alternator. It does have brushes that run on the slip rings, but it pulls power off of the stationary stator. Brushes last a LOT longer with this design.
