Well Done ! I recently acquired the same loco and had the same issue. Took quite a while to free up the drive train. Runs like a champ now. Thanks for sharing your work.

Polymerization is the fancy word to describe what happened inside the loco. Many greases and oils undergo this process over time.... And, with heat, friction, ultraviolet, or cycles in temperature. Great video and clever intro!

This is a fantastic little set Jim. It's amazing how they get so much fine detail into that tiny size. I've always had a slight itch to make a coffee table layout in this scale. You did a great job in getting this one running. I can only imagine how difficult and fiddly it must have been to do the work. Great video....Tom

The great thing about this set is you've got enough trackage for a timesaver if you plan the double slip as two points. Recently bought this set for a few bucks, much less than one used track set. Great as a first start and certainly during the cold dark days of winter.

Good to see you stepping into the dark side Jim, as you know I'm avid user of the N gauge from many of my meet the fleet videos I've done. But the detail from these smaller model sets these days are amazing and engineering at it's best for sure. I'm buying lots of DCC sound stuff at the moment and love how much more life like it makes layouts and trains sets even have more va va voom to them now also. It's that time of the year again when the european shows kick in like Nuremberg toy fair and many others. The fact you played trains instead of working made me chuckle as I'm lucky enough to be able to do this every day. Keep them videos coming pal we need more of these to get our hobby out there on social media.

Yeah...it is voo doo this Z scale its like the locos just moves slightly by its self when working on them and watch all the bits go out of position...I was using a magnetic tray to put the parts in as if you drop anything or if a micro part flips off somewhere it can take a lot of curseing and time to find..... Yeah sound adds a lot to a layout and in the last 10 years the tech for N guage and the new micro decoders and speakers make it easer to install sound in the factory or by your self. Ive been off today too and tommorow as the weather is too bad for my exterior repair works. So another day of expanding the automation and building items ....next is the Fleischmann ice experemental coreless motor fit out.... Thanks Jim

Z-Scales are so finely delicate, but well detailed. I would be scared to touch one. Great video and work. Just to compete a bit. We got 8 inches of snow last week, then thawed a bit, then deep freeze. We are at -21C, with a windchill of -37. Brrr. I didn't go into work either, and am about to work more on the layout- cleaning some track that have dead areas (probably some bad track, but will clean the rails and connections first). Anyhow, Cheers from a frozen middle of America.

Hi Anthony, I hope you are stocked up in case you get snowed in.... Yeah ive just took the second green loco apart and it was a challange to put back..but its a learning curve as ive never touched z scale before....they require mag lights to work on as the parts are so small.. Have you thought of getting a esu or piko track info coach they are great for testing dead spots or any other problems..I have the esu coach I did a review on it. Jim...

Hi Jim. "wow" What a great way to spend a day at home due to the snow, with an amazing z scale train it so tiny but has fantastic detail to it I only have a 7' 10" by 4' 6" space in my study room so I would be able to have a fantastic z scale layout and still have room, but with my hand the way they are I wouldn't be able to manage it with it being so tiny. But hey your HO layout is Amazing.. Regards George...
@hovermotion5 жыл бұрын
Hi George..many thanks.. Yeah ive been non stop today doing trains and work paperwork instead on been onsite working. Marklin Z is amazing very well made but I needed to use two magnifying lights and many fine tools including cocktail stick so to remove the metal gears without damaging them. You could get a nice layout on a door as a base. There are other usa makes that do dcc z scale with fine motors too. All the best Jim

Hi Jim. Thanks for your reply, I have R,A. which effects my hands so z scale as much as I would love to do a layout I can't I have even found N Gauge to small with my hand, which is the one I wanted to go for and I could have had a good sized layout. But I have ended up with 00-Gauge and everything is a bit cramped but hey it is what it is and will carry on and see where I get up to, but thank for the idea of a door layout and for showing an interest. I will keep watching your video's because you have an amazing layout. Thank you. Regards George...

This set is super awesome for someone who wants to start with z scale or toy around with it. Its has Electric switches, plenty of track, a good consist, some scenery and all electronics required. That little black thing is actually a water crane. Personally i have this set without the loco to toy around with. (I got a BR89 instead) Also a hint for Z scale is that you can buy KATO z track that has a rail bed and a a smaller radius for if the loco can handle it.
@hovermotion5 жыл бұрын

You're refering to the Rokuhan Z Track. They have a variety of good quality track with rail bed and indeed a smaller radius than Märklin. The Kato brand is mainly focussed on N scale.

Do Z scale trains being smaller ware out quicker?
@fredwest74364 жыл бұрын
I don't think so, my start was with an old set and it still ran nice. Newer locomotives will have better motors but that goes with any scale. Your biggest enemy will be dust as with all scales but the smaller scales will also have less contact on the rail so keeping the track clean is essential. Generally it's more likely your wallet that wears out quickly since Z scale is a smaller market which means higher prices so I tend to look for new additions secondhand at fairs and such.
