Reactivating any track system left unused for a long time will always take some effort. If you are also learning in the process, you will make little mistakes here and there, but once you have come across a few situations, you'll find it easy to avoid them going forward. So it is not a question of money, it is a question of choice and readiness to accept the limitations of one or the other. But I too like the look of the M-track :)

Looking at getting some M track stuff secondhand just for the fun and nostalgia... toy train vs model railroad... In Belgium it's still easy to find biggish lots for low prices.

The M track is very common and abundant here, so I building a layout with second hand stuff, reliable if not abused, loud running! but thats what trains are !

Yes I have 35 year old M track layout some of the joints cause loss of contact in sections due to deterioration of plastic holders at the joints. Points fail to throw as solenoids sometimes burn out or the spring gets rusty and loses tension.

Good video. When I build my L shaped double loop layout, I got a real surprise. My stepson and I removed over a dozen pieces of bad track. I was so angry, I did not even want to try to fix that many pieces! I threw them in the trash can and replaced each and every piece. I am in Germany, so M track is available by the bushel basket. My policy is, "If it is bad, throw it out and try another piece". I am building a new layout now and will be using mostly 3 rail M track, and some stud track where necessary (like, I am not purchasing a dozen 3 rail turnouts!). I would use the plastic track for reliability, but I am trying to get a real vintage look. Keep up the good reviews! I actually think you were too kind! LOL!

Thanks for sharing your thoughts. I am preparing to start my first layout with an old (may be 50 or 60 years) equipment and M tracks. I have tested the locomotive but could not test the tracks till now. By your perspective I should turn to C tracks? Thanks

Hi and thanks for the the question. Congrats on getting back into the hobby hope you enjoy it. Using M vs C track if I was in you situation just returning to the hobby these could be some of the variables helping me decide: How much M track do you have already? If a small amount then going C track would not force you to spend money on new track when you already have old. Having said that M track on Ebay is almost as expensive as C. Are you going to run digital or analog? If analog then probably M would be fine. I can't say for sure because I run digital and as far as function all good but some of the digital locos especially the short ones do not work well if at all on M track turnouts. If I had to do it again or if/when i expand my layout I am going to use C track. Hopefully this answers your question and please feel free to ask more and share how your layout is progressing.

If you want to run an automated layout C-track is much easier to work with than M
