Second story: OP did give a sort of, small update in the comments as of a few hours ago. The update: Bennett and I have been texting since last night. I asked if he was okay and told him I wasn’t trying to rat him out with the Facebook post. He said not to worry about it and confirmed what many here suspect - that he’s been sneaking meat, eggs, dairy, and seafood for years. He indicated it was only “a matter of time” before his parents found out. I told him it wasn’t okay to lie to adults … but admitted I would’ve done the same thing if I were in his position. I asked him if there was anything I could do or say to make things easier for him. He said no. Although his parents were upset, they’re not going to punish him or anything like that. Looks like everyone just needs to cool down and the situation will resolve itself.

I am sure he is not sticking to the vegan diet when he is with his friends, but you will get really sick if you just start eating meat thing is kind of a myth. I was vegan and before that vegetarian for a long time. I got really sick and went back to the standard American Diet with meat, then my doctor put me on Keto, and then we realized that vegetables were making me horribly sick, and when I went veggie free my fibromyalgia went away. I never got sick when going back to meat. Also, there are a ton of ex-vegans that got really sick and went on a carnivore diet and actually healed and didn't have any problems with eating meat after not eating it for a long time. I met vegans who had been vegan for 12 years and realized it was killing them, and switched to carnivore just like that! I now will throw up from eating vegetables, but they were making me horrifically sick before I switched which is why I don't eat them. Oh by the way, my cholesterol & triglycerides and all my blood work got so much better when I went to Carnivore and started eating tons of bacon and ribeyes and red meats + lots of shellfish too. As a matter of fact at the time that I went carnivore some of the biggest Vegan KZbinrs were doing the same thing because they were so horribly sick eating vegetables.

@@RiverWoods111 Eating meat may cause some digestive issues when you go from no meat to meat, but how much depends on the person; it landed my mom into the hospital because of the severity, but, she's not the norm in this. That aside, science is not on your side in the "meat is best" take; "Research over many years has linked plant-based diets to lower rates of heart disease, type 2 diabetes, and some cancers (as compared with diets high in meat and other animal products)." (Schmerling, Harvard Health Publications, 2019) "According to a joint Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) and World Health Organization (WHO) expert consultation from the year 2004, “households across all regions should select predominantly plant-based diets rich in a variety of vegetables and fruits, pulses or legumes, and minimally processed starchy staple foods. The evidence that such diets will prevent or delay a significant proportion of non-communicable chronic diseases is consistent.”" (Sobiecki, Appleby, Bradbury, Key, National Library of Medicine, 2016) In the next study they also found that in a group that has a large percentage of vegetarians (about 50%, Seventh-Day Adventists), eating meat even once a week increased the chances of diabetes by 29%; 38% if the meat was processed. "The benefits of all types of vegetarian diets in the prevention and treatment of diabetes have been well established. Clinicians and healthcare providers should feel confident in recommending a vegetarian diet to their patients who have pre-diabetes or T2DM. However, the type of foods that should be consumed while following this diet is critical to achieve the therapeutic effects.(Olfert, Wattick, National Library of Medicine, 2018)(the last sentence has to do with not eating a lot of highly processed foods; chips, ice cream, cookies, etc. are often vegetarian, and instead focusing on whole grains, legumes, vegetables, fruits, etc.) Some doctors prescribe vegetarian diets to manage overall health. All of that said, vegetarianism is generally suggested over veganism, as vegans are more likely to be lacking nutrients and a lot of people cannot live as vegans without increasing their chances of injury or nutrient deficiency. Vegetarians also have to be cautious with a few nutrients that are often derived from meat, but is doable and it isn't as many. But, as research has found, vegetarianism decreases your chances of several major health conditions. They did find a slight increase in chances of hemorrhagic stroke, amounting to an additional 3 people in every 1000, but considering heart disease and cancer are the two biggest killers in the US, killing over 1,300,000 combined in the year 2021 alone (CDC), it does have an overall large decrease in possible health conditions. I say this as a general meat eater who is working their way to being a pescatarian, so I'm not on a soapbox and I certainly eat things I shouldn't. But, please be cautious about suggesting to someone to eat a bunch of meat when it can, in fact, cause them harm.

I've studied nutrition at University, are a former vegan and even if you can raise your kids vegan, it can so easily go wrong, so it's not what I recommend. I don't even think you should be fully vegan during pregnancy or whilst breastfeeding, both for your sake and the baby. A better approach is to give the kids vegan food at home, but non vegan everywhere else, like in school, with babysitters etc. Then the kid is used to vegan food, yet gets animal protein etc and you don't have to handle meat. A friend took this approach and she has no issues with getting her kids grandparents to babysit, as "We need to make sure the baby gets what she needs". 😄 So there are purks to it too. I understand not cooking or even buying animal products for the family, fine. But at least if the kid is a guest somewhere else and wants to eat meat there, they should be allowed to! I'm vegetarian (more like ovo-vegetarian) and I wouldn't want to cook meat for my imaginary family😂 If the kid is old enough, they can just make meaty snacks or dinners for themselves, I don't care! I would buy the stuff, okay. I'd still cook vegetarian for anybody who wants it. And if my imaginary small child really likes meat I think I'd make exeptions and sometimes make meat for them. I would never "withhold" that from my kids. And let's say my current boyfriend will be the father of my future children (we're really young, so who knows), he can cook the meaty dinners (I don't see him ever giving up meat xD). He'd definitely have to cook meat if he wants that😂😂 I imagine it like with my parents. My mom, sister and me became vegetarian late in life, like when when my sister was 18, I 20 and my mom in her fifties. My brother and father continued eating meat. We used to have dinner with meat max. once a week before anyways, so it wasn't that hard to cook with extra options once a week. Works great, everybody is happy :)

His growing brain, neurons and nerves NEED the cholesterol found in animal products, it's a major component in those structures. His growing muscles and bones NEED the protein and calcium that is truly bio available in meat, not so much in beans and veg without careful pairings and supplements (parents sound a little flighty for that kind of homework). Vegan is just not good enough for a developing child imo. He can choose it for himself when fully grown if he wishes.

S2: im waiting for something like this to happen with my cousins. Theyve been raised vegan. But their dad is a meat eater. They may keep it up, but i can definitely see the youngest giving up on it when she has the choice. Shes already tried to sneak some of her dads food before. The oldest is the golden child of her mom, so she may keep at it for longer.

Story 2, 19:20 - This commenter says what I think. I grew up [mostly] vegetarian. I say mostly because I realise my parents' allowance of meat-bearing takeaway, sans anything pork (religious clean meat beliefs). I also think the same kinda of liberal allowance and issues with Mum being a single parent and struggling with Depression also meant she never fought hard on such things, but she was always very "Do what you want, within reason", and understanding of coming into our own mindsets. This said, a 17-yr-old is definitely old enough to make his own choices in food. If his parents aren't careful, he will up and leave and refuse to associate with them much.

Story 2 - NTA. I'm absoltuely with others on this one. And yeah, a fifteen year old should be more than old enough to decide for himself what he wishes to eat or not eat. I am just a bit concerned over the social media post though. I wonder if the nephew knew it was going to be posted? If not, maybe OP should have run it by him first. The kid would after all, likely known better than anyone, what his parents might have thought about the matter.

After comments: I do hope OP will have a friend run interference to keep mother at bay and inline so they can manage to have a lovely wedding despite the awful mother being there. After update: I'm sorry OP's family was such a pain at her wedding but despite that she enjoyed it and I wish them well with their coming baby. After next update: I'm happy to hear OP is going NC and planning on getting therapy. 2) At 15 I think the nephew is old enough to make food choices of his own. NTA. I really doubt this is the first time he has eaten meat, he probably has done it before with friends or out on his own.

NTA on the vegan story. My ex SIL tried to charge me for assault and neglect 5 years ago with this similar issue. Her and my brother were going through a messy divorce and still living with each other so my nephews came to live with me for 7 months. She’s Vegan my brother is not. Both boys were teens at the time and wanted McDonald’s, steak, seafood and dairy. 4 months in my nephew posted a pic of us at an all you can eat bbq. Next week CPS is at my door and I get served.

If brides want to stick it people who wear white to weddings. They can do what one bride did. She told her future inlaws not to wear white knowing they would anyway. She told other female guest that they could wear their wedding dresses if they wanted too most did. The bride wore a brightly coloured dress ( can't remember what colour.) So the inlaws blended in with rest of the guests while the bride stood out among the sea of white in her dress.

You know i listen to alot of reddit stories and i kinda have a different view. I blame op for keeping her mom in her life this long and expecting her mom to stop being her and doing the same shit she always does. She knows who her mom is and how she behaves, so why is she expecting her to suddenly become decent.

The last story, the only thing I would say was a little not ok, would be to post a photo of your nephew with out checking with him. Not because you should have assumed he would get in trouble, but personally I like control over what images of me are shared on social media. I don't like it when people post photos of me with out my consent. A persons social media image and presence should be up to them. Even more so when they are a minor. That is it though.

When you can rattle off a list of toxic behaviors that is longer than your arm in reference to a person that is in your life the problem is not that person it’s you. You are either stuck in the “because family” fallacy, expecting a leopard to change their spots or are addicted to the drama. It took my a long time to learn so I get it, but at this stage in my life I recognize toxic behavior early and have no tolerance for it. I don’t waste any emotional currency on it I just cut ties and contact and let that energy go wherever it’s going to go.
@Whatsername4224 Жыл бұрын
2nd story ~ the only AH thing is telling his sister veganism is not a religion. As if deeply held beliefs require an organized religion to be legitimate. Other than that ~ NTA.
