Saying while drunk or sober: "I think person "X" is hot and sexy and I could imagine a hot night with this person" when you don't know this person (actor, singer, model, etc.) is partly already bad enough. This statement alone eats away at the self-image of the partner and the partnership, but can possibly be cured over time. However, making such statements about a person from your close family or circle of friends means that you are only sticking with the relationship out of "convenience" and/or because the other person apparently is no longer available.

Story 1: This just screams therapy - both for OP alone and for them as a couple. There is no way for us to know if OP is a reliable narrator - did her husband confess to marrying her to stay close to her sister? Or, like Jimmy Carter, did he only lust in his heart for a good looking confident woman? The only 'lesson' I can draw from this entire story is to drink responsibly. I'm not comfortable falling back on platitudes like vino veritas, or getting tangled in the weeds of hypotheticals. Humans are complicated and there are no pat answers. Do they want to save the marriage? Try therapy. No guarantees they will stay together, but at least they'll have more clarity.
@Because-rt8qs4 ай бұрын
There's no way I'd do therapy if I were OP. She didn't do anything she needs therapy for. What would her therapy goal be? There's nothing she can do about her husband's feelings, that's not a goal. You know what happens when I'm drunk (which isn't too often because i don't like not being in control completely, much less the hangover) I start bragging about how lucky I am to be with my partner, how amazing he is and how happy he makes me. I couldn't bare the thought of playing second fiddle to the person whos supposed to love me the most of all (romantically & sexuallly, not necessarily platonically).

I began reading the comments on Story 1, and wow, some of OP's replies are troubling, especially regarding the moment when OP's husband confessed to having been in love with her sister (who is married/unavailable and lives just 2 miles away) on and off for years. One of OP's kids is a toddler, but the other is old enough to notice the tension between mom and dad. It seems that OP's husband was initially non-committal until she got pregnant, suggesting that he might not have stayed if she hadn't had kids, given his interest in her sister (who continued to be unavailable for as long as he knew her). Despite his denial, she uncovered this through persistent questioning and not accepting vague answers. But he doesn't want OP to leave him🙄.

S2: NTA. It should have been a simple case of saying no. Especially since the friend and Jack were supposed to be a package deal. Once the two broke up then so did the agreement regarding allowing the boyfriend to stay. I swear that first world problems tend to be so easily resolved.

She should tell her sister, the fixation isn't healthy for either of them, and since she lives close by it might become worse. We all get crushes, OP's husband is, imma say it, unhinged and a user.

Story 1: yeah if someone says something while drunk that is what they think sober. Story 2: Jack was incredibly immature and disrespectful as hell. Like cool you can date after a breakup but do it discreetly when living with Jill and his comments were really rude. But he seemed to be genuinely understanding when OP and her husband told him he can’t house sit anymore like he expected it so guess he isn’t a complete jerk.

Exactly if you gotta monkey bar from one to the next the least you can do is be mindful of the person you supposedly cared about. Understand that they're going to be hurting and not shove new partners in their face. It seems very intentional and abusive. No way he didn't realize he was purposely hurting his* quiet recent ex

Who was babysitting while Jack was out carousing? Jill? If he had no other reason to cool it until he was in his own place, his kids having a roof was it. I think Jill was letting the kids stay and he came with the package. So how messed up was he treating her for her to finally say, "nah, the kids and you can go couch surf"?

1) Wow, that is so sad and distressing. Drunk does not make a person lie, it makes them reveal truth they wouldn't otherwise say. OP will need to not let herself be lied to when she confronts him about this. This topic definitely needs discussion plus couples, and individual therapy if there is any hope for their relationship to continue, but if he used OP to get near the sister then what came out most likely is the death blow to this marriage. After update: If I were OP I would have a very hard time coming back from what happened that drunk night. If she stays with her husband or not, she will need therapy to deal with her feelings. After comments: The truth is out now, her husband didn't play the hypothetical game but it's clear how it would go. I feel sorry for OP knowing she comes in 2nd best and her husband is longing for and fantasizing about her sister. I'm not sure how this marriage will work with that in mind. 2) NTA to not want to have the same arrangement when it will no longer be the same circumstances, but I think OP should have notified him as soon as she had qualms to either tell him the deal is off, or if not, make a contract to assure it is legally understood how long he can stay, what the rules will be about additional guests, and when he needs to move out so there will be no issues about this. After update: This guy sounds like an immature AH. I'm thinking OP will not want someone who behaves like this staying them in their home and remaining part of the friend group. I'm glad to hear that in the end this was resolved well.

Crap, I just finished the story. It’s madness that she would even think about staying with him now. Why? Because even if she keeps him completely away from her sister-this weakness for falling for other women and comparing his wife to them unfavorably will always be looming in her future when he happens upon someone else he’d rather be sleeping with over his wife. This is who he really is. She should believe him and want more love than that for herself. He literally told her how he felt when sober, how could she not believe him and think this is fixable? She’s nuts to even try. This sort of desperation is never a good look on a partner. Now she looks pathetic, desperately clinging on to a man who spends all of his time fantasizing about anyone else BUT her. So sad that she can’t recognize her worth and act accordingly. If you can’t even prove that “you” know your worth-don’t expect anyone else to see it if YOU can’t. She will diminish even further in his eyes now. There will come a day when he doesn’t notice her or care at all beyond “what’s for dinner, or hey I need this task done-will you do it?” Sex will be boring with her in his mind. If he’s already pretending that she’s someone else in order to feel real passion-that is not a good sign.

Story 2: As someone with significantly younger gfs people like Jack piss me off. They're the reason people have such gross ideas about age gap relationships. He wants a younger woman so he can prey in her naivety, probably because women his own age are like Jill & see through their lack of maturity. What an ahole to rub it in her face, that was just plain vindictive. He's a 41yo child, pathetic.

Story 1: I would move on. I wouldn’t be able to trust him again after that. The fact that he admitted to being in love with her sister for YEARS not just some drunk felting moment/thoughts but years of him wanting the sister smh. Disgusting make me wonder how often have he thought of the sister while doing the deed with her imagining she was her. I wouldn’t be able to get those thoughts out of my mind. I would be trying to recall every moment they had, driving myself crazy. All I can see is op starting to comparing herself to her sister if things don’t work out in therapy. Which will cause a strain on their (her and her sister) relationship especially if she plan on staying with the husband. I just hope she don’t start taking this nonsense out on her sister who’s an unwilling participant in his weird fantasies.

Story 1: there is so fixing that dumpster fire. Counseling is just gonna be a waste of time and money. Hopefully OP won't waste too much of either before she finally ends it. Personally I would've already been preparing for divorce after the first confession and calling lawyers after the second.

Story 1: if your partner is going all out of confessing their feelings for another person especially ur own sibling it’s best you talk to them and their partner about it and warn them about it and then proceed to divorce/breakup with them because there’s no solution to this! Cool video, My relationship of 5 years ended a month ago. The love of my life decided to leave me, I really love her so much I can’t stop thinking about her, I’ve tried my very best to get her back in my life, but to no avail, I’m frustrated, I don’t see my life with anyone else. I’ve done my best to get rid of the thoughts of her, but I can’t, I don’t know why I’m saying this here, I really miss her and just can’t stop thinking about her.
