I was drunk enough to say i should have just slept with my ex bf just to get him to stop harrassing me about it and cuz i thought he was being really pathetic and clingy about it. After he ruined a date. My roommates thought it be a good idea to tell him this after taking my phone so i didnt tell him that. So yeah repressed thoughts i wouldnt tell him to his face or really anyone. Now i'd just call him pathetic sober and break up with him. I did break up with him later that week.

"Drunk words are sober thoughts" is one of the most toddler-brained things I've ever heard. It's a hyper-simplification with the singular intent to villainize someone. People who treat this as a truism aren't even worth engaging because they're just being close-minded and only want justification for a decision they've already made. Alcohol is *NOT* a "magical truth serum" it creates an unreliable narrator. This is why it's called "being under the influence" and why you can't give sworn testimony in court if you are intoxicated.

Story one: “it’s natural to be curious and notice the opposite sex” what patronising secondary school sex education lesson did OP’s husband take that from? She’s his wife! He shouldn’t be talking to her like a child and using “it’s natural to notice” as a deflection from his frankly appalling behaviour and confession. Given that OP says her sister is her best friend, they live minutes apart, and regularly do things as a trio… my mom and aunt were like that as young adults, before life landed them in distant states. Mom and Dad met because Auntie met my now-uncle and as Mom and A were roommates and Dad was rooming with his friend, Uncle, timeline where Dad’s stationed elsewhere Uncle would still know Mom well. Heck, my grandparents adopted both well before Dad’s position left “part of our (college graduate) daughters’ friend group” She says keeping them apart would be changing several habits

Story 1 after the update: Did the husband ever actually deny anything? Or did he just play it off as being absurd games of "what if?" Story 1: While alcohol isn't a truth potion, it let's go of most inhibitions. Not only did he say he was in love with the sister but OP said the sex was different, more passionate. I wouldn't be able to look at my spouse the same. Thinking that the entire time he's with me he actually wants to be with my sister. Hard no. After Update: "he said it is normal that people are curious about the opposite sex." What the hell is that even supposed to mean?! It's such a non answer. I feel like OP didn't tell him everything that happened. How he thought the sister was brilliant, how the sex was different. Why didn't she bring that up? Okay so he denied it, then admits to having a crush for years THEN says he's in love with her?!? I couldn't & wouldn't be able to continue the relationship. The people saying it's "like a school boy crush" No. A school boy usually doesn't know the girl he's crushing on. This man has known the sister for YEARS. Has gotten to know her. It's not innocent. For me, that's a relationship ender.

Saying while drunk or sober: "I think person "X" is hot and sexy and I could imagine a hot night with this person" when you don't know this person (actor, singer, model, etc.) is partly already bad enough. This statement alone eats away at the self-image of the partner and the partnership, but can possibly be cured over time. However, making such statements about a person from your close family or circle of friends means that you are only sticking with the relationship out of "convenience" and/or because the other person apparently is no longer available.

its so disturbing to me that there are so many stories of people getting with their SO just to stay in orbit of their siblings or other family members cause they're attracted to them. not only is it a case of "well, i cant have them so you'll do for now" but it also seems like they're doing it so that when the family members own SO dies or they break up, that they can swoop in and claim the prize they really wanted. i also 100% believe that while making love he was pretending she was her sister, the words he said during it and then after to describe her sister in his lil confession and that satisfied dreamy look of his, i would be done with him the very next day and contact a lawyer as soon as possible. theres no coming back from this, it was over before it began, he doesnt love OP, he loves her sister and is just waiting for his opportunity to make that move.

Story 1: I haaaaaaate when people use being drunk as an excuse to get out of situations. Being drunk doesn't make you become a different person, it loosens you up and makes you act on things you wouldn't do when sober. OP's husband admitted that he was *in love* with OP's sister, that he wondered what it would be like to kiss her. The fact he couldn't answer OP's hypothetical and dodged the question, on top of that, speaks volumes. I would divorce him. If my partner ever admitted they were in love with someone else, drunk or not, divorce. Well that only lasted until he made a move on the sister, who was horrified at being put into that situation. She of course told her sister/his wife and together they cut him out of their lives. She moved in with her sister and divorced the guy and he spent the entire time stalking/begging the sister to forgive him and give him a chance. Didn't even spare a thought for the wife he hurt.

The same guy who dates new people while still living with his ex and then describes how the date went to his ex. Spare me the "don't be judgey" crap. He is as Jill said: Immature and spiteful.

Story 1: This just screams therapy - both for OP alone and for them as a couple. There is no way for us to know if OP is a reliable narrator - did her husband confess to marrying her to stay close to her sister? Or, like Jimmy Carter, did he only lust in his heart for a good looking confident woman? The only 'lesson' I can draw from this entire story is to drink responsibly. I'm not comfortable falling back on platitudes like vino veritas, or getting tangled in the weeds of hypotheticals. Humans are complicated and there are no pat answers. Do they want to save the marriage? Try therapy. No guarantees they will stay together, but at least they'll have more clarity.

There's no way I'd do therapy if I were OP. She didn't do anything she needs therapy for. What would her therapy goal be? There's nothing she can do about her husband's feelings, that's not a goal. Maybe therapy to help her through the divorce. 😂 (It was Jimmy Swaggart. Don't say that about Jimmy Carter 😉)

Not wanting to talk about hypotheticals and that comment about "people getting worked up about things that aren't real" was the real nail in that coffin. You would think that your first reaction to something so damning would be to assure your SO, not essentially tell them they're being stupid.

I began reading the comments on Story 1, and wow, some of OP's replies are troubling, especially regarding the moment when OP's husband confessed to having been in love with her sister (who is married/unavailable and lives just 2 miles away) on and off for years. One of OP's kids is a toddler, but the other is old enough to notice the tension between mom and dad. It seems that OP's husband was initially non-committal until she got pregnant, suggesting that he might not have stayed if she hadn't had kids, given his interest in her sister (who continued to be unavailable for as long as he knew her). Despite his denial, she uncovered this through persistent questioning and not accepting vague answers. But he doesn't want OP to leave him🙄.

S2: NTA. It should have been a simple case of saying no. Especially since the friend and Jack were supposed to be a package deal. Once the two broke up then so did the agreement regarding allowing the boyfriend to stay. I swear that first world problems tend to be so easily resolved.

1) Wow, that is so sad and distressing. Drunk does not make a person lie, it makes them reveal truth they wouldn't otherwise say. OP will need to not let herself be lied to when she confronts him about this. This topic definitely needs discussion plus couples, and individual therapy if there is any hope for their relationship to continue, but if he used OP to get near the sister then what came out most likely is the death blow to this marriage. After update: If I were OP I would have a very hard time coming back from what happened that drunk night. If she stays with her husband or not, she will need therapy to deal with her feelings. After comments: The truth is out now, her husband didn't play the hypothetical game but it's clear how it would go. I feel sorry for OP knowing she comes in 2nd best and her husband is longing for and fantasizing about her sister. I'm not sure how this marriage will work with that in mind. 2) NTA to not want to have the same arrangement when it will no longer be the same circumstances, but I think OP should have notified him as soon as she had qualms to either tell him the deal is off, or if not, make a contract to assure it is legally understood how long he can stay, what the rules will be about additional guests, and when he needs to move out so there will be no issues about this. After update: This guy sounds like an immature AH. I'm thinking OP will not want someone who behaves like this staying them in their home and remaining part of the friend group. I'm glad to hear that in the end this was resolved well.

Crap, I just finished the story. It’s madness that she would even think about staying with him now. Why? Because even if she keeps him completely away from her sister-this weakness for falling for other women and comparing his wife to them unfavorably will always be looming in her future when he happens upon someone else he’d rather be sleeping with over his wife. This is who he really is. She should believe him and want more love than that for herself. He literally told her how he felt when sober, how could she not believe him and think this is fixable? She’s nuts to even try. This sort of desperation is never a good look on a partner. Now she looks pathetic, desperately clinging on to a man who spends all of his time fantasizing about anyone else BUT her. So sad that she can’t recognize her worth and act accordingly. If you can’t even prove that “you” know your worth-don’t expect anyone else to see it if YOU can’t. She will diminish even further in his eyes now. There will come a day when he doesn’t notice her or care at all beyond “what’s for dinner, or hey I need this task done-will you do it?” Sex will be boring with her in his mind. If he’s already pretending that she’s someone else in order to feel real passion-that is not a good sign.

Story 2: As someone with significantly younger gfs people like Jack piss me off. They're the reason people have such gross ideas about age gap relationships. He wants a younger woman so he can prey in her naivety, probably because women his own age are like Jill & see through their lack of maturity. What an ahole to rub it in her face, that was just plain vindictive. He's a 41yo child, pathetic.

Story 1: I would move on. I wouldn’t be able to trust him again after that. The fact that he admitted to being in love with her sister for YEARS not just some drunk felting moment/thoughts but years of him wanting the sister smh. Disgusting make me wonder how often have he thought of the sister while doing the deed with her imagining she was her. I wouldn’t be able to get those thoughts out of my mind. I would be trying to recall every moment they had, driving myself crazy. All I can see is op starting to comparing herself to her sister if things don’t work out in therapy. Which will cause a strain on their (her and her sister) relationship especially if she plan on staying with the husband. I just hope she don’t start taking this nonsense out on her sister who’s an unwilling participant in his weird fantasies.
