A week-and-half-or-so after 9/11 I caught L. Shankar, his daughter, Vikku Vinayakram,and Zakir Hussain in Chicago for free in a room of about 200 people. It used to be library but now it's called the Cultural Center or something... Right off the Randolph Street stop. Goddamn. It had to be the most beautiful place on earth that night, filled with people from damn near every race and ethnicity in Chicago.

He does -- Her name is Gingger Shankar, and she's one more exponent of the double violin. Yes, it's apparently spelled with the two "g"s...

I have been blessed to see Shankar with the tabla maestro Zakir Hussain, three times. In S.F. at the Hearst Auditorium, in Marin County at a Seminary outdoor amphitheater, and at the Julia Morgan Theater in Berkeley. What words can describe the experience? Sublime, exquisite, supreme, inspiring, beautiful, blissfull, transcendent, transforming! This video is a rare treat to see these two masters of the violin 🎻 and two masters on percussion. Really wonderful. Thank you. All love and gratitude 🙏 beloved Shankar.

East Indian percussionists held every note together ,so why are they not named as masters of instrumentation...?
@vedavms21043 жыл бұрын
They do not look for recognition/claims... they just practice what they perceive from their Lord Shiva (read it as the source or Master of Cosmic vibration at all levels.) ; the start of this perception starts with a physical Guru (read a Master teacher who can immerse you in a subject) and makes the student realise his role and purpose of life whatever he /she pursues.. in Music it is merrier 🙏😍☺

Been a MOC fan forever going back to the Dregs. This was just off the charts. Mark can play anything with anybody. His ability to not only adjust to this style, but to excel in this forum at the highest levels of musicianship is just staggering.
@keithlenik20745 жыл бұрын
This was probably the first time in Mark's illustrious career where he was playing with someone with technically superior skills and speed but Mark more than held his own, How do you compete against a musician who is playing 2 violins at one time? Where Mark excels over all others is his remarkable diversity-he plays every style incredible including classical music and he also excels on guitar, mandolin, and banjo, No one on this planet has or will ever have that kind of skill level. When is going to receive a Kennedy Center Honor?

Keith Lenik you hit the nail on the head. One is not inferior to the other, but I agree with you on this comment.

capitalismforme enjoyment in music is a subjective experience. Arguing over which one is superior is foolish.
@philnaccarato4 жыл бұрын
@@greymanBB Thank you .... bringing some sense back into the thread. They are both mind blowing, highly skilled and incredible musicians. Let's enjoy them without the childish arguments about who is "better". The beautiful collaboration, and they way they are "talking" to each other is what's important. But I will say that it's stunning how well Mark can adapt to music that has NOTHING to do with Bluegrass, Rock, Blues or Jazz.
@greymanBB4 жыл бұрын
capitalismforme what is good music is ultimately what pleases the one who listens. I agree you may have a lot of technical knowledge. That does not change what one enjoys. The more one enjoys it, that becomes better.....for that person. That’s all I care to say. You are entitled to your opinions. I don’t have that much knowledge of technical terms used in the western tradition like you seem to have. I guess you also have knowledge of the technical terms used in the Indian tradition, correct? So that way you can judge who is more “technically” correct? You must also have an exhaustive knowledge of both music systems, and must have impartially judged which is the “better” system. Since a computer can play a “clean” note, cleaner than any human, I guess we have to nominate the machine as the best player by your encyclopedic knowledge? Also, you are the best authority for what music is good for all humans? Awesome.
