Howdy, just came across the video randomly. I've got the same bike, with the khaki tank and all. I found that the bike was geared ~really~ low for what I required, with off-roading being maybe...5% of my use requirement. Just recently changed the front sprocket from a 14 to a 15, along with having a custom 37 tooth made for the back. Immediately better, fixing the only issues I had with the bike itself. I'll end up having to replace the tires it comes with, but that's not necessarily a negative.

Thanks as always, Mark. The Scrambler 400 is 20 lbs heavier than the Speed 400. I viewed a review on both bikes together between two riders who swapped the bikes back and forth to compare notes. They both agreed that the Speed 400 was discernably the quicker of the two, but only slightly. Apparently, in this 400cc power range, 20 lbs can make a difference. It looks like the Scrambler exhaust is the biggest contributor to added weight and next after that is the 21" cast aluminum wheel. An after market exhaust should narrow the weight gap considerably. @@markpulling12 Hi Mark, The Scrambler was fun to ride. Comfortable, great handling on the bends, good riding position, super nippy through town traffic. Braking was good, overtaking from 50 to 70 mph was done with ease. On the suspension travel... it's possible this could have that about its suspension, but on the roads, even if the suspension is sprung exactly the same - the larger front wheel and beefier tyres will make a noticeable difference in gliding over bumps and potholes. I noticed this big time after a few years riding scooters for my delivery job, then returned to geared bikes and suddenly potholes and bumps seemed nothing like as bad as I'd remembered them. It's all about relative perspective, although what I was riding was the cb300r, which was extremely lightweight and had showa big piston forks, which probably made an even bigger difference.

I've had more than 27 bikes. Hypersports, sport touring, touring, motorscooter whatever bit the last years I am downsizing because I just ride for pleasure. My last bike was a Royal Enfield Meteor 350 and I loved it. But after 2,5y i sold it. Could sell it easily with some manufacturers warranty on it. I sold it just because I don't have the room to have two bikes, and for the sort highway riding and overtaking in general the Meteor wasn't good enough. So I did a testride with the Royal Enfiels Meteor and Himalayan 450, Kawasaki Z500 and Honda CL500. The Honda falls off the list because the next years it will be no longer available in Belgium and Holland and I suppose also the rest off europe no longer available. The Engine of the Kawasaki was nice but the seat position was not for me anymore. I prefer a straight up riding position now. The guerrilla and Himalayan 450 were great. Still a single cilinder and off course not so smooth as the twin of the honda and Kawasaki but more than ok. But....I really don't like the colors of the Guerrilla and Himalayan. Not one color that conquered my heart. But the Triump Scrambler 400 is absolutely the most beautiful of all the bikes I mentioned. So my question is. Have you ridden the Himalayan or guerrilla and which engine (and in fact all the bike)do you prefer? The royal Enfields or the Triumph's (especially the scrambler) Very curious to what others AND YOU have to say. Thx🙏

These bikes make not only sense in the UK but all over Europe, maybe except for some stretches of German Autobahn. But even there there are not many stretches left without speed limits due to bad road conditions, noise abatements or construction sites. I drove about 1000 km on Autobahn from Innsbruck to Hamburg a few months ago and only on etimated 300 km there was no speed limit.

Whatever happened to center stands? Only Royal Enfield seem to make them these days. We all know that chain drive sucks, well chain drive and no center stand really sucks! But even so, modern motorcycles offer more chains and fewer center stands than ever before....
