I think the problem with the green "fungus" is that most people posting online about it have shrimp with Cladogonium Ogishimae but everyone misdiagnoses it as Ellobiopsidae. If you look at the research papers on Ellobiopsidae, as far as I know it has never been found green, only yellow. Also it will sprout from pretty well anywhere on the animal and mostly only affects marine crustaceans. Cladogonium on the other hand is almost always sprouting from the shrimp's pleopods(but can spread elsewhere), it is usually green or yellowish-green when it reaches the stage of producing colour, I think it only affects freshwater (but could be mistaken), and is more treatable than Ello. And since Clado is basically a parasitic algae peroxide treatments have been said to work, I'm trying that and salt dips on one shrimp right now and it appears to be clearing up, I'm just hoping that it didn't do too much internal damage before I noticed to be able to save it.

Best thing to do when it comes to these is to not get bad sick imported shrimp.

Nice video, i bought a lot of shrimps and i barely managed to make 5 survive out of maybe 40. I bet I have bacteria that explains random deaths but I also did fight that green fungus and scutelaria. I almost got tired of hunting for a good source of shrimp, I still have some in my tanks but i m like super close to stop trying and turn to fish. I do have 2 with babies for my first time ever, a green jade and a blue dream, but I believe it is safe to say they are my best bet at aquiring a new generation that will then thrive to my water content. I like how u have that much moss growing, I tried some phoenix moss but I can't get rid of BBA stunting its growth. I even tried a seringe to inject undilluted peroxide on the spot and nothing happened. I can't wait to sort out all the myths and bs online or treatments with half of the necessary info for success.

I would make sure to get shrimp from better sources for sure. The vast majority of shrimp being sold are really poor super cheap imports, that are fully grown and have lived 80% of their lives then shipped around the world. Some folks to imports better than others and generally that is reflected in the price you pay. I would look for breeders like myself, who breed the shrimp they arr selling, then you have people who do imports well and always have stock and a big variety, but the 30 shrimp for 40 bucks shipped deals you see on ebay and stuff are not done well, its just re bagging them up and shipping them off type of operations.

Hey, thanks for the reply man! yeah I have bought from 3 different sources so far and I am really hoping I can at least get the blue dream and the green jade started since they are berried. It will be my first time ever so I try to keep them in breeder boxes with lava rock pebble bottoms with established bacteria in the dark so algae wont cut flow. I am hoping the babies will fall through the grid and stay there to eat, but I will probably attempt to put a cut out sponge on the breeder box entry to avoid for them to get back in the aquarium and mix all colours for an even worse start than it has been lol. I may try to DIY a small breeder box to insert inside main aquarium and pair my only 2 males with females (1 couple per box) so they can keep making babies for the babies to then fall into the aquarium and have access to infinite food, not sure if it works but I am going to try everything to at least get a massive blue population started and maybe some green jades in another tank. Take care man! 😎👍@@MarkShellyAquatics

Great video, mate. What's the easiest way to see shrimp up close so you can possibly identify these things when QTing new Shrimp?

Big magnifying glass, or I will use my phone camera to zoom in. Those are 2 ways I check out shrimp up close.

Great video man. What are your water parameters?
@MarkShellyAquatics2 жыл бұрын
Thank you. I really don't think certain parameters are really all that important when it comes to healthy Neocaridina shrimp, what matters is that the parameters the shrimp are kept in always stays the same and if you are using tap water that there are none of the bad stuff that we simply do not test for in the stanard test kits. My gh and kh are well above the supposed ideal ranges and my shrimp do fine obviously, last time checked kh was 12+ and gh 20+. When I have got new shrimp I've had no problems and I've sold shrimp to 100s of people with great success. With neos its not about pefect, its about being consistent.
@matthewdavis10562 жыл бұрын
@@MarkShellyAquatics thanks for your reply! I seem to have such a difficult time keeping neos alive when my water is consistent and clean. So like you said in the video I’m starting to think of the sources that I’ve gotten shrimp from are sick shrimp. I keep non neo’s and have no issue. Just seems like trouble with neo’s. So like you said they’re basically treated like a dime dozen so they are cared for poorly and since watching this video you’ve opened my eyes to those possibilities. I’m gonna have to grab some shrimp from you in the near future. Thank you again for your in-depth reply!

One of the first RCS I ever got had Ellobiopsidae. I tried to quarantine it and it survived for a couple of weeks after I discovered the parasite. Luckily it didn't spread to any other individuals but I feel like in the future I'm going to just euthanize as nothing I did slowed down or stopped the parasite.
@MarkShellyAquatics2 жыл бұрын
Yeah, thats seems to be the general consensus. Pretty hopeless
@Kissheep Жыл бұрын
u can cure it with soaking them in aquarium salt water for few seconds every day, around a week they will be gone. but for the shrimp it's pretty stress

Got some pfr from Joe's aqua. Came with elobiopsidae and suspected muscular necrosis
@MarkShellyAquatics2 жыл бұрын
Anywhere you get imported neos you are at a pretty big risk to get this and many other diseases. Even places that try their best and do quarantines. It's inevitable that some sick shrimp get through.
@ticket2space6212 жыл бұрын
@@MarkShellyAquatics yeah I got them when I first got into this and have since learned to buy from a local breeder first if possible. Great channel!
