They were very curious and wanted to see it. I was surprised they hadn't heard of it. I'm just waiting to see what magazine extensions will actually work on the Mossberg mc1sc that was made for the Glock 43. Owner of the mossberg mc1sc of about 6 months. I've got about 400 rounds through it. Had some trouble at 1st (returning to battery issues), but it's been flawless since my 2nd time at the range. Sights are metal and can be replaced with Sig #8 sights. It comes in a lot of different options, safety, no safety, mounted laser, stainless slide and a centennial version. Its very clear a lot a R & D went into this firearm. Mossberg did it right......

My initial gut reaction when I saw the Mossberg was positive. I like the look of it. The aesthetics of a gun are important to me. Obviously if good reliable function isn't there the aesthetics is irrelevant. But if it doesn't look good to me and feel good in my hand I don't care how reliable or smooth it is I'm not spending the money to add it to my collection. I don't mind the magazines on this. I actually really like the idea of transparent mags. The safety is my big potential deal breaker. I would prefer no manual safety (my Shield has no thumb safety). This one seems extra easy to accidentally engage. I'd want to disable it somehow so your thumb couldn't push it in. Or better yet maybe they'll come out with a no manual thumb safety option. 🤞

I’ve had this pistol for quite awhile. A couple of things . One I have the model without the safety and it’s a much better gun in my opinion. Why would you need 2 safeties. The one on the trigger works well on its own. Secondly the mags I found out are very durable. I unwittingly tested one by running it over with my full size truck by mistake. Aside from some scrapes it ended with no damage and works fine. My suggestion is switch to the mossberg . I also have the shield and in my opinion the MC1 is a more accurate pistol.
@vinny29765 жыл бұрын
Let me preface by saying that I own an original M&P Shield w/safety, which I bought when it first came out. It's been a great carry gun that I rotate in my EDC routine. I am very accurate with it and feel at $400 or less, it is a great buy. I use the 8 rounder mag for added grip length w/IWB DeSantis cozy partner. When introducing friends to shooting, this has been one of the guns I've brought to the range along with revolvers and semi-autos, including Sig's, Glocks, Rugers, XD's, and others I own to familiarize them with shooting. I've recommended Shields to first time buyers considering a semi-auto, due to having an optional safety and reasonable price point. I do not have experience with the MC1, but was at the range on 11/14/19 having two guys in the lane next to mine experiencing difficulty with FTF's on their MC1. They had a Sig with them which was shooting fine, but could not get thru one magazine with the new MC1 without a FTF. I finished shooting and was checking it out along with the Range Master. This was brand new using FMJ ammo, so I don't know if they cleaned and lubed it initially. They had pulled up a KZbin video on their phone and were looking up lube points for the pistol. I asked if they had lube and offered my S&W gun lube that I had in my range bag with me. They got a little farther with the next mag before another FTF. I left shortly after that, but offered that it could be a mag issue or just needing a good cleaning and lube. I mentioned that I've had to send back some guns with an RMA, to Sig, & S.A. to make them right. Being a first off pistol by Mossberg, they may need a good break-in period initially for some. Overall, my M&P's have never hiccuped on me, with the Shield being a great bang for the buck, IMHO.

The Shield 2.0 sells for around $325, I would pick that over the MC1. I don't like Plastic sights. The one thing I do like about the MC1 is the palm swell on the backstrap. I don't like the safety, but I bet its easily removable. I have a Shield 1.0 and upgraded the trigger to the Apex Duty/Carry. What a nice difference. I think the Shield is a great little handgun. Also, even though the Shield sights are nice, I upgraded to the XS Big Dot. I can acquire sight picture much faster plus it has a front night sight, I just feel that any SD handgun should have night sights or a laser/light combo.

Good side by side review. I'm really not sold on the Mossberg though. I just think they look kind of goofy, and really I don't like the takedown procedure. More parts to remove are more to break or lose and if you need to make a gun so idiot proof that you don't have to pull the trigger versus just teaching people to always triple check to see if it's clear before pulling the trigger... I have not shot the Mossberg yet, I just don't like the way they look. I guess I may need to borrow one to try. I also don't like the safety, but again, I haven't shot one, so maybe it's not so bad

I normally EDC a Performance Center Shield 9mm, but I think this would be a good option in my rotation. I would opt for the night sights and no safety though. This pistol does feel good in the hand, and from what I've seen in reviews shoots very well. Great job Chris. Now get it to the range for a range review.

How does the safety function? Does it actually lock the trigger preventing the striker from actuating? Or does it just block the striker from impacting the primer? I.E. meaning that if you were to engage the trigger while drawing or some other mishap you would have to disengage the safety, then rack the slide to re-cock the striker and spit out a perfectly good unspent round out of the chamber?
@robertsilver51303 жыл бұрын
It's a cross-bolt safety, locking the trigger when engaged. A few other observations since I've had the pistol for a year and a half and carry it daily: the sights are steel, not plastic; I really like the trigger and reset -- very comfortable and predictable, surprisingly so for a relatively inexpensive pistol; it is extremely accurate (meaning, "I" shoot this subcompact pistol more consistently accurately than I shoot some other comparable pistols); other than a couple of very early hiccups, I've had no malfunctions of any kind over 1500 - 2500 rounds with a variety of ammo, including hollow points and remanufactured stuff; the polymer magazines have been very durable to date, although I generally ignore the flush 6-rounder and just stick with the 7-round extended magazine (I purchased two more); while a little light on capacity given the recent offerings by Sig, Springfield and S&W, I find it very slim and comfortable to carry. Anyway, thanks to Marksman TV for this well done overview of Mossberg's slick little pistol.

What about accidental mag releases on the mossberg? The mag release is much less "protected" than on the shield or an xds! Was this a problem? Did you have to adapt your grip a lot to avoid that mag release button?

Thoroughly familiar with the 1st generation Shield gritty trigger and I've fixed horrible ones without a Apex kit. People try to make an argument as I've seen the trigger loop bar with horrible worn machine tooling marks so bad they were like a very aggressive finger nail file plus the most common block ruff surface. People tell me it isn't the trigger loop bar it's the block. Well for most that seems so while I've seen both the problem in the 1st gen Shield. You can carefully polish using magnification so you can see not to polish through the case hardened surfaces. If you polish through the part won't last long. Parts are very cheap though. If you put in a Apex kit why not polish the contact points while they are out? I know they are tiny however getting a mirror finish improves the action even more. I'd stay with the Shield also.

*The MC1's Selling point* I did not know how *from easy to easier* disassembly of the striker/firing pin area was so important in *CCW self-defense* that we are discussing it so deeply and it could mean the possible end of the Glock 43 (that the Mossberg MC1 "accidentally" wink, wink, after 100 years mysteriously copies). Amazing! *The MC1* & MC2 The Bottom Line that Mossberg is going for: a cheaper, lower priced Glock 43. That is it. *The MC2* The 3rd Mossberg handgun the "MC2" will be a clone/copy of the Glock 43X. This will also be an "accident" and it will use Glock 43X mags.

@@Megames2012 as the buyer my concern is the lowest price I can get. Why would I deliberately pass up a better deal? However, I'll play along. That $50-$75 price difference I gave? 412hwc Thank you so much for your reply and Thank god you are alright ! Too bad you weren’t warned about using the steel cased but worked out ok . So you use 115 gr brass obviously now as your defense ammo ? That’s funny u say that about glocks I owned a 43 and felt the same way about how it looked and felt worked on the east side of Detroit had to draw it at a gas station but thankfully that was enough to deter them . I love the way the mossy looks but never had my hands on one so your input is very appreciated thanks again . I also have considered using 115gr fmj Fiocchi Ammo for my carry for reliability to me it’s all shot placement and penetration and that stuff will go through car doors ect. With no problem. That is a great price you paid hopefully I can find the same . Also I like that it will use the glock 43 mags which I know are very reliable. I wish you the best of luck and good job being prepared for these situations my fried it most likely saved your life . Not to pry and don’t want like to give advice to people especially with experience but ever think of carrying something with a little more capacity considering your situation? Not that I’m implying you don’t have a lot of money to spend but I’m always about a good deal as long as it’s a quality piece. I was going to recommend something like the new Taurus G2C I’ve heard great things about it and it can be purchased for about $200 will give you double the rounds almost without reloading. 412hwc Thank you very much I think my heart is set on it just hope to find a good price and I take your word for it about how it feels in the hand just by looking at it you can tell it’s a perfect grip especially with the 7rd mag in it . I totally respect your concealment for your children I have a 10 yr old daughter and feel the same way . I was originally going to buy the g2c myself I wouldn’t recommend something that I wouldn’t buy . But to have this mossy I think is a step up and just so damn cool looking idc what people say I care about how my firearm looks especially paying a few hundred dollars for it . But reliability and comfort are most important of course. Nice talking to you bro ,best of luck my friend I’m sure you will do a fine job keeping the bad guys away from your family as you have already proven that . Understandable, as they do look like cheap, plastic toys. But they're not. They're surprisingly durable, low friction, and functional. I've loaded both mags over a hundred times each, dropped them, etc. They look brand new -- no scratches -- and remain perfectly functional. I'm not an armorer, but the gun definitely does not feel cheap: steel sights (video is mistaken), steel guide rod, good ergos, and a very good trigger imo.
