The RPR stock does indeed lock to the side. It's the button you pressed to fold it, turn it 90 degrees once folded and it stays locked.

I have the RPR in 6.5 creedmoor. I absolutely love it. Approximately 700 rounds through it at this time with no deviation in velosities or precision. Will replace the barrel down the road but no need at the moment. Vortex Viper pst 6-24X50, atlas bipod, and accu shot monopod. This rifle is so accurate I've had new shooters at the range banging steel beyond their wildest expectations. It is so accurate I'd say it gets boring but hey, I love thevsound of ringing steel. It truely gives meaning to, " Just because it's too far to see, doesn't mean it's out of range." Really opened the sport of precision shooting for everyone.

To me it seems Savage deleted options that most serious long range shooters would replace any way. An after market 20 moa base, the butt stock, and the muzzle brake. Those are the first things I would change if I bought the RPR. Although the butt stock seems pretty good to me. I've heard a lot of ppl don't really like them due to the flex you get with the unsupported u shape in the stock. I'd definetly be putting on a high end precision rail. And a nice muzzle break. The factory blue printing is a real plus, especially with the floating bolt head. That will give you near perfect alignment of cartridge to the bore. This is typical Savage style. Put the money into accuracy first, ergonomics and looks last. I guess it all comes down to what the buyer wants. Don't get me wrong. Both these are amazing rifles, and the RPR is a better looking rifle with more options. But I've just had such good experience with Savage for accuracy from my old 10Tr, still in the accustock. With good hand loads it still shoots great. But if I wanted a serious out of the box shooter. I don't think you can beat the Tikka Tac 1. Friend has one and it is such a beautifully built rifle, and eye popping accuracy. It's worth the extra 500$ in my mind... Even though all these rifles could out shoot most shooters. Me included. The biggest thing is the firearms market putting all these great rifles like this for everyone out there, is a win win, for all. That Howa and Bergara look great too. It's a great time to be alive in the shooting community. 20 years ago you where spending fortunes to get custom rigs like this built by a gunsmith, and up to a years wait. Cheers all. Now just go shoot! lol

Just shot my RPR for the first time. I am very impressed. I mounted a Vortex Diamondback first focal plane to it. After zeroing the scope. This thing would not miss, granted I could only shoot out to 200 yards. Shooting an 8in gong at 200 yards got boring. Hitting the center of a clay pidgin 200 yards, child’s play. Looking to find a place where we can shoot past 500 yards, which I have no doubt it is capable of doing. My cost for my set up was about $1500.00 for everything. Oh yea, the butt stock dose lock.

Ruger looks to be the winner: hammer forged barrel, 20MOA rail, shorter bolt throw, ready to shoot adjustable stock out of the box, upper is pre-hardened 4140 CrMo steel, the barrel is in line with stock. I'd rather have the 6.5 CM in a 20" barrel, there's almost no additional velocity with 4" more steel.
@PatriotPaulUSA5 жыл бұрын
Wow! So Ruger uses 4140 chrome moly hardened steel, for its reciever, 7075 hardened aluminum, for its lower reciever, has AR grips, AR Handgaurds, and buttstocks, takes every mag I can imagine using, has a chrome moly steel hammer forged 5 button rifled barrel, has a disassembly tool and allen wrench in the end of the 3 lug bolt, (instead of the 2 lug ) a removable and replaceable bolt handle, and a much more adjustable buttstock, and a 20 MOA rail. I am glad I watched this as it clearly shows Ruger put in better Much better materials and spent time in designing this gun. They both are 24" 6.5 Creedmore that I amlooking for. I really want a easily replaceable barrel on my 1st precision rifle as I plan on wearing it out. Knowing that, these were the 2 best candidates. I like the Mossberg and the Smith/TC offerings but they lack, in that dept, I believe. I am not really familiar with how Thompson action and Barrels interface. I now see why the Ruger is a few dollars more, its in the quality of materials and design.

Comparing all 3 in 6.5 Creedmore. Looks like retail is about 1408 for the Savage, Ruger is 1142 and Howa Chasis Rifle is 1027. Ruger and Howa both have a cheek riser already. So you don't have to go buy one. Infact, they both have decent stocks. So, add 100 - 200 more to the Savage. Sounds like Howa and Ruger paid more attention to the shooters needs. All 3 can use the AICS magazines. All 3 can use AR stocks. But why should you have to purchase one for a rifle that is already closing in on 1500?

The Ruger is much more versatile in the handguard area department, the Ashbury has 6 different ones that you must buy from them and the Ruger has tons which are available from a ton of manufacturers. I own both but I tried getting the CF one from Ashbury and have yet to get a chance to get one because they are hard to find. I also have the stealth and prefer it over the ashbury. A note on the ashbury: You cant put a PRS stock on it because you would need gorilla arms to shoot it. I have tried, I wasted $200 on it plus the buffer tube. You can put other stocks on it but the PRS doesnt work.
@Serenityindailylife7 жыл бұрын
AN TY my stealth shoots better and has better support (mdt) and the Ashbury has the weird front end area that allows you to swap things but the stealth feels more natural in my hands and is easier for me to shoot prone. both are good but the stealth is better for me. I have used APO stuff in Afghanistan when they were in the UK. we used a roll up tripod and mount that were awesome. this just seems like they sold a bunch of production stocks to savage and they slapped them together. my front end was even loose when I bought it. so I doubt qc did anything extra to find the problems with the new system. hope this helps.

Can you explain about the rail system 20 MOA. What do you mean about the 20 MOA of adjustment?
@tc68183 жыл бұрын
MOA means minute of angle (1/60th of a degree). It is roughly equal to 1" at 100 yards. (technically it's 1.047", but most people use 1" for their calculations and adjustments.) The minute of angle (MOA) is like a triangle that keeps getting taller the farther the target is from the rifle. Depending on the distance, 1 MOA is: 1" at 100 yards, 2" at 200 yards, 3" at 300 yards, 4" at 400 yards, etc. These rifles are accurately shooting at distances of over 1000 yards. Assume you're going to zero your rifle for 100 yards. If you are shooting a distance greater than 100 yards, you need to make adjustments on your scope in order to hit the bullseye. There is a finite number of 'clicks' available on any rifle scope -- eventually you can't adjust it any more. The farther the target, the more time the bullet spends in the air and the more it is dropping. In order to hit a target 500 yards out, you will have to aim much higher than you would at 100 yards. The drop is not linear, because of the acceleration due to gravity, it keeps falling faster, the longer it is in the air. A 6.5 Creedmoor bullet that drops 2" at 100 yards might drop 8" at 300 yards and 48" at 500 yards. If your rifle/scope is zeroed in for 100 yards and you're shooting a target 500 yards away, you'd need to aim an extra 46" above the bullseye just to account for gravity. (48" of drop minus the 2" for 100 yards that's already dialed into the scope) At 500 yards, 1 MOA is 5", so you'll need to adjust your scope by 9 MOA just to compensate for 45" of bullet drop. (9 MOA x 5" per MOA = 45") Then you'd want to adjust another 1/4 of an MOA to get as close to the required 46" as you can. (1/4" x 5" per MOA = 1.25") That would put you at 46.25". The Ruger has a picatinny rail that is taller than the Savage. The extra 20 MOA of height allows you to zero your rifle/scope using the lower end of the optic's elevation adjustment. This allows you to use that extra 20 MOA of elevation adjustment when you're shooting at longer distances. The general rule of thumb is that a bullet's effective range is how far it will remain supersonic. When most bullets slow to below the speed of sound, they lose a lot of accuracy. (Transonic is the term for a bullet changing from supersonic to subsonic) While it can vary depending on the cartridge and ambient conditions, the 6.5 Creedmoor is supersonic to about 1400 yards. Therefore it is reasonable to expect a long distance shooter to be aiming at targets in excess of 1000 yards. Here is an explanation from warnescopemounts.com/20moa-explained/ When a shooter is adjusting the elevation dial on the scope for ranges longer than what the gun is zeroed for, at some point, they will run out of elevation in the scope. In many instances this is around 600 yards, give or take. For example, if a shooter had a scope with 40MOA of total elevation travel, and the rifle was zeroed at 100 yards in the center of that travel, they would have 20MOA worth of adjustment both up and down. When the rifle is zeroed in the center of the scope travel, there is 20MOA worth of down adjustment that will never be used. In its most basic form, a 20MOA base allows you to use that extra 20MOA of travel in the scope that was not being used. So in this case, if the shooter had a 20MOA base, the rifle would be zeroed at the end of its elevation travel, and the shooter would have 40MOA of elevation at their disposal, allowing them to shoot longer distances.
