This kind of sums it up. I've rode my Ninja 400 for a few months now, I use it for commuting on the highway; it's a short trip where I often get to 100+mph. Would I like to go faster? Maybe, but I'd probably kill myself quite soon.

Beginner rider here. I bought a used Suzuki TU250x and it's been great to practice more of what I learned at the MSF basic rider course. It's been about 4 months riding locally and in parking lots but I'm ready for a step up and this Ninja 400 sounds like it would be perfect! Don't think I want to go any more cc's than this. I originally owned a Honda Rebel 500 for a year and went downward to a Kawasaki Ninja 250R...But l love the ergos of a sport bike plus a 4.8 Gallon tank allows me to go longer distances without worrying if l'll run out of gas. l also can do 70 on the highway with passing power if needed. ln time l will upgrade to a bigger bike but for now l love riding a slow bike fast as it keeps me safe on the road with adequate power.

Wearing ear protection you barely here the bike ! I installed an akropovic on mine plus modified the silencer with a reducer ! You take the db out and install a reducer to the size of the stock exhaust output circumference in the back of db . And reinstall in exhaust , the sound is superb unlike any exhaust I've ever heard for the smaller bikes. You'll need some cast iron plumbing parts : 4" threaded pipe and a reducer to the spec of stock , thread on to pipe , grind around reducer which allows to fit properly back in exhaust . Take 4" pipe with reducer threaded on it and stick in the opposite end of db , then slide db back in and install set screw . You'll be amazed at the results and with ear protection on you'll be able to at least here the bike to .

Veteran biker, owned and maintained over 20 or so different bikes, commute 100 miles a day about 300 days of the year lol. I've had every kind through the years, big ass cruisers 1600cc to Supersports. Bought a ninja 400 new a year or 2 ago and honestly it's more then enough. Highway is where its at its best, the 80mph to 100 is very nice honestly and surprising for a 400cc. I plan on keeping it as one of my permanent bikes as its just fun lol and cheap enough to commute everyday without maintenance litterally killing you. Great on gas actually. Do yourselves a favor as a mechanic my advice just leave the exhaust. A cheap Amazon slip on screams amateur lol you'll F up your shift points and especially during the break in .. I promise you your better off leaving it. If you want loud attention get a cruiser and straight pipe n jet it. This bike has plenty of power for everything I've needed so far and its actually a solid bike lol.

I've rode the Ninja 400 and wish it was my first bike. I started on a brand new Norton 850 Commando in 1976. Oil leaked from the primary case and tachometer cable. It had terrible brakes, vibrated bad at idle, high speed wobble if tire pressure was off, and eventually blew a head gasket. It couldn't stay up with a Ninja 400 in any way except maybe an acceleration test if both were in high gear. Speaking of gears, the Norton had a 4 speed and was shifted with the right foot. Gas mileage was not nearly as good either.

Nice video. 1 question. Do you think the Ninja 400 will haul a 250lb rider on 55-60mph 2lane mountain roads decently enough, or should I be looking at 650-800cc stuff? I have been debating riding a bike for some number of years... and have a good amount of riding experience, from dirt bikes growing up, from riding my dad's HD shovelhead (not for me), and from a summer on my brother's GSXR-600. I put over 7K miles on the gixxer that year, and while it was fun, and fit my short stature well enough, I don't need that kind of power. I have had my eye on a few different bikes over the last few years. Was leaning towards the CBR500R as it seemed "big enough" , still relatively economical, etc... Now that the Ninja has bumped it up to 400cc, I think for the lower price, it is a great option. For the price of the CBR500R I could open up a lot of different options, especially used. Another bile that has caught my eye is the Yamaha XSR700, and the new R7 built off of the same engine platform. As the R7 is brand new, it would be expensive and not many to be had used for a few years. Other options I'm considering used, would be the FZ6R, VFR800, and a few others. I lean more towards fully faired sporty bikes with a somewhat upright seating position, and would love the option someday to have a 2nd bike with luggage options, like a VFR800 or Ninja1000(recent NOT-ZX10 model) Ride safe, and thanks for the video, your take on the 400 as a more experienced rider using it for economical transport and enjoyment is just what I was after...
@ScoutsOut
@ScoutsOut 2 жыл бұрын
So yes I think it would haul you fine, I’m 210 and that bike has plenty of power to get me moving. It’s not going to wow the hell out of you but it’s an enjoyable bike to ride. I too am looking into the R7 I think it would be the perfect bike for my interest with more power but not crazy high reving power like my 600 but I do like the race bike ergos that it will come with, the reviews of it I’ve watched talk of it’s aggressive riding position like the R6 which is generally the most forward leaning position off all the 600’s so you might not like that bike Thanks for watching and commenting, I think you would enjoy the bike from what you have said

I’m really in between a ninja 400 and a r7… I’ve only had experience with two stroke dirt bikes, mainly not riding, not really racing or anything crazy. I’m leaning towards an r7 because I don’t want to fall into that group that ends up trading/selling a 400 within a season, but I’d rather start on a r7 that I can grow into and still learn. For a second bike, a number of riding seasons later, I really want to move up to a 600/1000. Ultimately, I want to end up on a bmw s1000rr. What are your thoughts/opinions on 400/r7 for my first bike? Honestly, I don’t really care to have a 400 for a track bike, I’m fine with taking an r7 to the track, but I’d rather have my second bike being a metric cruiser so I can enjoy both styles of riding with two different bikes
@ScoutsOut
@ScoutsOut 2 жыл бұрын
I’d say if you are comfortable riding motorcycles you would be good, I hear ya with the 400 it will always be something you will want to upgrade. If you have zero riding experience I think it’s worth starting on the 400 but if you feel comfortable the r7 would be way better

I have both a 2018 ninja 400 and 2022 R7. I have been riding bikes since the 1990's so have plenty experience. If you are planning to do any distance rides then the 400 is much better and while not super fast it has a lot of get up and go that even experienced riders learn from is enough for the street. I ride along with friends on a SX1000 and a ZZR1400 on Sunday morning breakfast runs and they comment that I am always hanging with them especially on twisty bits... I am in their mirrors no matter how hard they push I catch them up. If people say they outgrow it they are talking trash and probably poor riders. The R7 has addictive beastly low down grunt and is a bit quicker.. the 400 revs higher and is like an eager puppy that just wants to go go go. I'd say the R7 is a sharper tool handling and breaking wise Vs the 400 which more forgiving of ones mistakes, R7 is great fun for about 1.5 hrs then you will start to hurt (wrists, back etc). I have spent upwards of 5 hours on the 400 with little discomfort. I travelled to Tail of the Dragon from Charlotte on the R7 and besides enjoying being there on the R7 and kept wishing I was on the Ninja 400 while travelling there and back. Then there is the cost, the 400 is much better (5/6 k Vs 9/10 k to purchase) and 400 is more fuel efficient. Both bikes are sexy as fuck ...personally I would recommend the 400.

@ScoutsOut
@ScoutsOut 2 жыл бұрын
I don’t think anyone thinks short legged people aren’t good riders, some of the better riders I know are shorter. In this instance the bike is really narrowed more to a beginner audience and it being a sport style bike you sit low inside the bike which is what I was trying to get rid of with a taller seat, which helps force you into that more aggressive position. Happy new year!!
