I own the N400 and in the Philippines where the only bikes that can enter the express ways are 400CCs (on paper) and up, it's more than just a starter bike. It's a machine that a few owns and rare to see on the streets. It doesn't just turn heads, it breaks necks.

The Ninja 400 makes a great LAST bike, too! I'm 80.5 years old and have had somewhere between 2 dozen and 30 bikes in my lifetime, all the way from my first bike (a '48 HD 2-stroke 125cc that used "white gas only) through numerous intermediate bikes, a half dozen Goldwings or so, Kawi 250 and 300 Ninjas, Connie 1k and 14)... but I digress. Point is, the other day as I was riding this little rascal, it suddenly came to me: I Love This Bike! And that is something I have never said about any of the others. Fun bikes all, very nice bikes, bikes I liked a lot... but this one I truly love.

400cc is plenty fast. I can cruise at 80mph just fine then rip it up to the max 110-120mph. Theres also many mods can do. Once you buy the relay the light addons are endless. To me the ninja 400 is a sports touring. Sits great not to sporty can add bags and cargo. You get sports bike feel but i can use it for my commute bike.

@@nunyabusiness896 I'm a big guy riding a Honda CBR650F. No doubt this 650 is faster than 90% of the vehicles on the road. And in the powerband, it moves and requires your full attention. But there are definitely times I wish I had the power of maybe a Kawi Z900, Ninja 1000 or FZ-09 so I could just be cruising and have the torque to move in any gear. I don't think a supersport is for me for my next bike, but I would love to have that power to go at any time.

I've got one. It literally ticks every box for a great commuter. Super light clutch, over 120mph (200kmh) top speed, 0-60 in around ,4 seconds, and it's super comfortable and I'm 6"3'. Great bike, and it seems very well made, should last a long time. Also it's super tame at low speed up until 7k rpm which is nice in traffic. Super smooth.

@disbsam333
@disbsam333 2 жыл бұрын
@@marcusrwd5301 I've never ridden a 650 but I wouldn't consider one because the tank hits my knees unlike the 400. The 400 is so fast that I really don't think the 650 is necessary. The 650 is stuck in a weird zone, it doesn't sound that good, and it's not much faster than the 400 while costing a bit more. I sold my 400 for a Ducati monster but I still miss the 400. It's so underrated, and such a fantastic bike. Get the 400 for sure, you won't be disappointed.

@@marcusrwd5301 hi i've owned both bikes.. i JUST got back into the 400 for the same purpose.. commuting to college. the 400 is the perfect urban commuter going 75+ mph. n650 was slightly too tall and heavy for me. im 130lbs and 5'6 barely was able to tiptoe on the ninja 650, so it wasn't fun backing it up when I had to park in my tight garage. n650 is a fun bike with all that extra torque, just not my cup of tea.

I got a 2019 Z400 as my first bike and it’s a lot of fun! Been riding for about 3 months now. A little scary/intimidating at first especially after taking the MSF course on a 250cc Kawasaki. The clutch is very forgiving and it has enough predictable power accelerating to not scare you, but feel confident you get up to highway speeds with minimal effort. With it being a naked bike, riding around at highway speeds will beat you up after some time and sudden gusts will wake you up pretty quickly. Good luck!

@@squeege0711 Have you gotten the front cowl/windscreen for it yet? I'm planning on getting the 2020 MT03 when it drops soon and the highway winds are one of my biggest concerns. Wondering how much a cowl would reduce the wind.
@DenvarShay
@DenvarShay 4 жыл бұрын
@@rickflam1447 The wind from head on with no screen can be a pain, manageable though. It's the heavy wind and/or gusts from the side that are the issue. And nothing can solve that, light bikes are just susceptible to being thrown around. I ride my N400 on the Highway every day, I have a taller windscreen and obviously full fairings, wind is still a pain, but ya get used to it.

I've been riding nearly 10 years and shamelessly enjoy small, light sportbikes. Provided the rider has the insatiable drive to develop, they put your riding development on steroids vs the unforgiving, doubt inducing bigger bikes. I've also owned a gsxr600 k7 racebike and it's just a different type of fun. For twisty public roads and carparks, nothing beats a tearing them up on a flickable little bike. Being sub 70kg/155ib means these bikes are just that much more fun for me I guess. I'm eyeing up the ninja 400, but want proper sportbike ergos. So lower clip ons and higher rearsets are a must imo.

@SportbikerNZ 4 жыл бұрын
@@chrisbarbz9238 While that does have the effect of marginally lower bars in relation to your body position, it doesn't raise the foot pegs. Additionally that seat has less rigidity and support for aggressive riding, a criticism a youtube review pointed out. He didn't like the vague feeling caused by lack of seat structure. I did end up buying a ninja 400 and have kitted it out with lower woodcraft clip ons and higher Arashi rearsets. I'm really enjoying the bike. I'd still like lower handle bars, but they are as low as I can get them without clashing with the body work.

The same wanna-be alpha males that will be talking noise and laughing at your 400 are the same ones that’ll be talking noise about you after your funeral because you killed yourself on a bigger bike. Get what’s best for you and if anyone judges themselves because they feel the amount of HP in a toy they bought defines them as a man, they have some serious self confidence issues. I can’t stand those immature alpha male idiots who influence new riders to get something bigger than they’re ready for. THEYRE more dangerous to a new rider than a Hyabusa is. The maximum speed limit on highways where I live is 100 KM. City streets max 60 KM - 80 KM. I really don't need any expensive speeding tickets. Given the speed limits enforced where I live do I really need anything more powerful or faster then my Ninja 400 ?

Had this as my first bike before I wrecked it. Absolutely glad I started on this bike. This 400 had plenty of power for someone who has no clue wtf what their doing. I owned it for a year and learned so much about handling a bike around a tight corner while being “safe”. I’m now on a Panigale which I have 0 fear of because I learned so much about riding while being able to explore my curiosity in wheelies and speed corners. Low displacement bikes have my heart

Sometimes I agree with your opinions, and sometimes I don't. I am someone who rode 30 years ago and reentered motorcycles recently. I was thinking of the Ninja 400 for the power to weight in beginner class, but the one thing that changes my mind (to a Ninja 650) was the sound. The Ninja 400 sounds like a lawn mower engine. The sound is what changed my mind. (That and better ability to handle highway speeds.) You video reviews are (many times) lacking many aspect of the review. Please... make more comprehensive reviews. (Lately, I feel like you are bending your reviews to $$$ pressures of the manufacturers). Sorry, but I have to add.. the Aprilias and Triumphs are over priced based upon upkeep cost. Motorcycles are.. already.. money pits of upgrades/maintenance/repairs/insurance.. don't compound the problem to new riders.

This is such a beautiful bike. Nice to see someone that really knows how to ride display it. Used to own a 250, after years was even able to ride it in the winter. These smaller rock stars are way more fun than going 100 more mph. They are so easy to control they will keep you alive. Also if you love to rod around it feels like you are all the time while still staying within a comfortable speed. What else could you ever want in a bike. This 400 looks like a dream bike to me ... Just bought mine about a month ago. It's my first bike ever and so far i feel like I've made the right choice. I would recommend it for anyone else who wants to start riding. I definitely think ill be upgrading to a 600 here soon but I'm glad I decided to start on a slower bike. I've tried my buddies 600 and was convinced I might've killed myself by now if I started there. Not saying you can't start on a 600 but i know I definitely shouldn't have. I have a bad habit of pushing a little too far so the 400 has been great at keeping me in my place lol. Moral of the story. It's a great starter bike. Get it if you looking to start riding. I should add if you feel like it won't have enough power to keep you entertained your wrong. It's got plenty of power to keep you pleased for a while. I'd say it's probably at the top end of power as far as starter bikes go.

I find it funny that guys on youtube talk so much crap, saying that bikes under 50 bhp are under powered, but when you see them ride they barely go beyond 60 mph with those bikes, when you can actually go to 100 mph easily. Then you see them talking about speed, and they can't ride fast on curvy roads with their big bikes, any guy skilled enough with a small bike would smoke these guys on their litre bikes riding on curvy roads. Most of these "expert" youtubers, only know how to go fast on a perfectly straight road, which requires no skill whatsoever, you just open the throttle. The bottom line is, they can't even use the full potential of these so called "little bikes", and they brag about having a big bike. It's like having a huge dick but not being able to get it up or last more than a minute LOL.

Yammie gotta say I love your videos, they have been really helpful with being comfortable as new rider on 2 wheels, your wittiness is a nice touch, and your insight is always appreciated. Keep it up man! I got my endorsement back in November and my first bike is actually 2015 Ninja 300, wanted to get a 400 but I had already impulsively put money down on the 300, but I still love riding it around town. My coworker has an R6 which I rode around the block once, it's a nice difference in speed but a noticeable bit too much lean for me as a new rider.

This is a nice review. Though bikes like this never made it for me, I'm sure this bike is OK for many - Especially new riders. I put this machine right up there with some of the best starter bikes ever. Not too long ago I was helping a friend pick out her first bike, and this one made the final list. Ultimately she picked the Honda CBR500 R, which I thought was a wise move because frankly the Honda was a better bike, especially for her and what she wanted to get out of it. but this is a solid machine.

honestly as a rider of 12 years, ive had half a dozen bikes in cc from 250, to 1800, i built a custom shadow 1100 bobber, to use as a commuter, because lugging my 900 lb vtx 1800 out of the garage is a PITA, just to run to the gas station, honestly, i reminesce about "the ol ninjy", a brand new 2009 ninja 250r SE.......i had that bike 7.5 years, sure i had other bikes, while i had the 250, but eventually traded it in 5 years ago. and since then ive missed how much fun that bike was to ride, as a commuter, a city bike, and the gas mileage. so im actually selling my shadow 1100 custom bobber, i built to fill the role, which has been gutted to like under 500 lbs, in order to get back to my roots, i'm going to buy a brand new ninja 400, im keeping my 1800, for long road trips, but honestly everyone i know, will tell me about how i literally rode that old 250 everywhere, even with an 1100, and a 650 in the garage as well......i honestly cant wait.

So, when does the spiritual successor to the Ninja 500 comes out? Because even though the 250 was the beginner bike, the 500 was the do it all, the one you did not really need to upgrade from, unless you wanted way more speed. Kawie needs to go back to the successful 250 / 500 product line, they kicked everyone else's ASS. But for now, the Naked Z400 would be the one for me, I am older and my back needs help! I have a beat up 2005 SV650 that I am about to get rid off....Yes, I know, the SV is about 20 HP more powerful and 1 second ahead in the 0-60 and the 1/4 mile, but I MUST have a new bike and the budget is low.

My 1st street bike was a 1989 Honda CB1 399cc. After that I got a 1997 Suzuki GSXR 600. The entire time I had it I missed the smaller bike. Had an accident and almost another right after getting it repaired. Got married had kids got rid of it. Last yr kids were old enough to care for themselves and i wanted a bike again. I purchased a 2019 Ninja 400 and i love it. Is it some superfast great sounding pavement shredder? NO. What is it? Fking phenomenal. So damn fun it's better than funnel cake and cotton candy at the fair. It's a home run for me. Dont listen to dudes who wanna poke fun at the small bikes. It's fun and that's what bikes are supposed to be and the Binja 400 is the best at the FUN to ride game. I use it as a commuter to work and the hardest thing about it is to actually pull in the parking lot because once I'm on it I'd rather keep going and take a sick day. On the weekends I use it to play and the bike will let that happen. The riding position is very comfortable at 5'11" 180lbs for me although I do wish my heel wouldn't land on the damn exhaust pipe with a size 11 boot. Is summation the KAWASAKI NINJA 400 is the best damn money I've ever spent in 47yrs of life.

Coming from an "ol Man" by your specs.. my cycle lic. was issued in "84" at which time l bought my first bike..that l still have, the 74 Kawi Mach lV 750 H2 triple..since then l have stabled many nice bikes..2nd bike a 90 Vmax from there a blur of bikes..Interceptors, CBRs, an Eliminator, ZX12r, Z1's, Harley's.. a pretty wide variety over the years of many types and styles of bikes, at present my stable has a H2, 990 adventure, Honda Shadow and a Harley Ultra 124" S&S..my track days have been few but we're a lot fun none the less. Honestly the lil Ninja has progressed nicely, l can't help but feel you are expecting too much in your review and to call it "Vanilla" is like calling a Busa a "Cow" maybe there are a couple aspects that are but every bike has them, if you have been on a Busa then you know what it's like to straddle a cow with a jet engine in its ass.. the bike caught my interest at bike week this year so I took it for a group test drive which honestly..l was quite impressed over all and love how light and nimble it is, couldn't really groove on it (it was a Kawi test ride) but the shear effortlessness was pure fun and ultra confidence inspiring. Personally for me, l think the Z400 will be the better choice being I'm not Kenny Roberts (an ol Yami guy that was a bad ass a long time ago!) on track day so it has me convinced with 30 plus years of riding that it needs to join my stable and add another groove of riding to my choices. Love and enjoy your vids and views.. Thanks!

Spite or spike (sorry idk what he name is) the section when you talk about" the bump in power really isn't noticable unless your on a smaller bike like an r3." It's like such a waste of a sentence man. It's the only type of bike it (the Ninja 400) has a bump of displacement on so it's just kinda strange to even mention it (it's the point of it being the 400 vs the 300 competition). Not hate just like seems like way to much filler.
