One-handed Southpaw - I use the Smallrig Cage for my M50 Mark II with the arri handle placed on the left as you show in the video. As a one-handed leftie this is a game changer. So, thank you for showing the combo in your video. While I was aware of the Smallrig Cage I had never seen the left mounted handle. I cannot tell you just what this means to someone in my position. Being able to actually pickup my camera by the handle with my left hand for the first time was mind altering. I really appreciate your efforts in sharing your knowledge and experience. I always feel encouraged. Pairing this setup with a monopod or a tripod and a remote puts me in the game. Endless thanks to you.

I have the L-Bracket for my M50 Mark II and I really like it. I don't really do video, so I don't need the cage's million and one attachment points. I also just leave the side bracket in my bag 99% of the time since my main goal is a larger, more comfortable grip. Thanks for all your reviews and videos.

I was lucky enough to pick up a Canon M6 Mark II that the seller bought for a vacation and never used afterwards. The package he was selling included both the EVF and a (non SmallRig) UURig cage. He had the cage attached to the camera when it arrived and to be honest, I wasn’t sure I’d like it, but once I held it, I’ll never be taking it off. I love the added grip, the extra heft, and the numerous options to add things on should I need to (two cold shoe adapters, one on either side. I highly recommend getting a cage.

After trying for months and months to manage working with the Smallrig Cage for the Canon M50, I Gave up and went back to using the M50 without a cage. I tried to fix the wobble I got from the cage with everything under the sun. They did come out with a V2 of the cage, but from the reviews, It apparently still has a wobble. I realized what I had ambition for was just too much for the m50 to handle - long lens, monitor, rails, battery, follow focus. If Small rig made a cage for JUST the M50, that would fix a good amount of the problems. The M50, obviously, just isn't build to be rigged out more than a mic and a handle that can be used in a manageable way in a professional setting out in the field. I love the M50 and just wish there was another way.

I’m about to buy an M50 (thanks for your input into this decision). One of the key reasons is it’s compact size. For me, I swapped grip for compactness in my buying decision so I’m a little way off from giving up one of the M50’s better physical features. Maybe I’ll change my mind when I have the camera.

I bought the M50 M2 a few weeks ago, and while I agree with you, I ended up buying the cage, receiving it just yesterday. I’d earlier bought a Viltrox F1.4 56mm lens, and the camera definitely feels heftier with that screwed on (and with the lens hood, it almost seems as big as my old DSLR). The cage makes it balance out, and it’s a great mounting option-plates seem to block the battery door unless you put them on at a 90 degree angle. The cage easily removes if you want to slim down again. I’m considering getting the Canon 22mm “pancake” lens, and I’d I do, I’ll probably remove the cage when I take out the M50 for low profile shooting.
@richardslater677 Жыл бұрын
@@andrewberrigan1404 Thank you. I have now had the M50 for a few days and I see what you mean. I have the f1.8 50mm lens which is quite chunky with the Viltrox adapter attached. It’s very manageable with the kit lens though. I’m also going to buy the 22mm pancake lens with the M mount which makes it more or less a pocket camera. Very pleased with it so far. All the best.

Is it possible to mount a quick release plate on the side making your own L bracket? Consider the cage but also want the functionality of the portrait orientation. Thanks!
@markwiemels2 жыл бұрын
Yes, really good idea, that would work.
@andrewberrigan1404 Жыл бұрын
I realize I’m responding to a very old thread here, but: yes, I’ve done this and it works. The plate can also give you a bit of a grip on the left side during landscape mode, too. Drawbacks: you may block the mic port with the plate, and you’ll almost certainly prevent the the touch screen from rotating (but I think that would happen with the L bracket, too).

If I were king for a day I'd commision someone to make a battery addition to the M6 Mark II that did nothing more than add battery capacity, extend the grip about 1 finger and provide an arca swiss plate on the bottom. Even if it only doubled the capacity with one more E17 in the grip and made the camera more comfortable to hold I'd buy it. I'd need to buy giant SD cards though because changing it would be a pain. As an extra thought the bottom of the grip could wrap around the non-grip side of the camera just enough to provide a cold show for mics etc... This would leave the hot shoe open. You know, if I were king for a day. Maybe I'll look into 3D printing one.
