This lens with the 18 -150 ef-m Is a perfect combo for travelling..I usually put in the bag these 2 lenses plus a light prime lens amongst Sigma 16 mm f/1.4 or Canon 32 f/1.4

The 11-22mm is by far the sharpest lens I have for me M50 ( I have sigma 16mm F1.4, Canon EFM 32mm F1.4, 22mm F2.0, nitty fifty 50mm F1.8 with vertrox adaptor and the kit lans) You can always trim it for second creation due to its super sharp image. Oh, it only works well at day lights by the way.

Agreed! When I first got my M5 (Canon was fading it out, so GREAT buy!), I adapted the Canon EF-S 10-18mm. I know others have highly recommended that lens for its price, and maybe I had a bad copy, but it was pretty disappointing. This 11-22mm, on the other hand, is great, and I use it all the time. I have an R kit that I use when it's time to do my best, but this lens helps my M kit to feel like I'm not compromising a great deal when it goes hiking with me. I'm getting too old for carrying heavy gear up the side of a mountain! For that reason, I hate to see Canon phase out the M line. I just don't see how the APS-C R cameras and lenses will be able to compete for compactness.

In terms of photography, every lens has its own use. Canon 11-22mm is made for landscape and interior photography. F-stop starts from f.4 because you don't need a blur effect in most cases of interior photography. Mind also that you will use a tripod so you can get the best result of it. If somebody wants a les for daily use, even in low light situation, he should by Sigmas 16mm f1.4 or my favourite Sigma 30mm f1.4. Also, if your budget is limited at the moment, you should avoid 11-22mm for now and go for a brighter lens (f2.8 to f1.4) so you can be more confided. About the review, is pretty good sir, you just got another subscription.

Yo i hope you're here to reply but don't you feel it's too tight for the 16mm as it is apsc sensor(cropped) so it's 16x1.6= around 24mm. wouldn't that be a bit too tight for the 16mm sigma? cause I am actually looking forward to buy a new lens. I might use it for landscapes, scenes or just straight up some portraits but not so close. also a bit of vlogging cause I wanna experiment with i t.

Sold my M50 five years ago and invested into the RF full frame series and I am in love. However, recently purchased an M200 and a sigma 16 as a second camera for short trips. (throw it in my bag and go) Because it is a second camera, I am trying to keep the investment low but this channel is ruining my plan. Since subscribing, I now want at least 3 more lenses. ;)

Yea, I also have the 11 to 22. And indoor is not the greatest but beside a window or outside this lens really sines especially between 11 and 15 mm. At 22 the quality can suffer, so I would use 22mm prime at 2.00. But for vlogging for M mount nothing can beat this lens it is the best.

Hi Mark. Thanks for the video. I have been going back and forth with buying a new lens. I can’t make my mind up. The cheapest options for me are the Canon 10-18mm and this 11-22mm. Now between 10 and 11 probably there isn’t much difference. With the 10-18mm I’d need to buy an adapter, and I can see it has a lot of plastic and looks big. On the other side, the 11-22mm looks extra fine, not heavy at all and good for travelling. I use my M50 Mark ii either with a tripod (in the gym, or recording videos at home) or walking (headshot videos or landscape). So quite a mixture of indoor/outdoor and lighting. I don’t really film late in the evening, although British winter days are extremely short and dark😅 A second hand 11-22mm is around £215 pounds. A 10-18mm second hand is around £100 - but I need to add the cost of the adapter too. I’m not that bothered with depth of field and blur, however it would be nice to have some blurring when I film at the gym, to blur people’s faces and surroundings. Having said all that, would you still recommend the 11-22mm? Or maybe, is there a better option which allows for a wide angle and a lower f-stop too? I could increase my budget a bit for something that could work better. Thanks a lot for your time!

It's a hard one. You will get almost no background blur with either of those, and they are not great in low light environments either. If you can get away with 16mm, then the Sigma 16mm would be the lens, you can test this by setting the kit lens to 16mm and see if that works for you. The Sigma 16 will give you a better image, better low light, and a blurry background.

One reasonable notice regarding 11-22 EF-M is defraction starting on F8 or F9.... I had brain torture getting chosing for wide angle lens for my M6 M II... so I chooses 10-18 EF-S with adapter because of earlier defection on native 11-22 lense. So 10-18 EF-S wider angle an deferaction on F11 and it's cheaper. (Sorry can't find link on test where were this lenses being tested with defraction findings)

The 22 mm prime is much smaller and is an F/2 lens, so it lets in much more light.

Unfortunately not. Zoom lenses don't let as much light in, as a general rule. The Sigma 16mm would be your best bet.

They are such diffrent lenses really, if you need the zoom function and autofocus, and don't need low light capabilities, then yes. If you have the 15-45 plus the Rokinon, that's a pretty versatile setup.

If it's the 11-22mm hood, then yes, that hood does have a little play in it.

If you are talking about the M50 with the 4k crop, it can help somewhat, but 4k on the M50 is only useable in limited situations in me experience. You have the crop, rolling shutter, and poor autofocus, its not a great combination.

For video yes, for photo, I think it would be hard to tell the difference, which will be true for all but the very best prime (fixed focal length) lenses.

I would use the M6 for most things. There isn’t a disadvantage to the 32.5 mp, it won’t make the image worse, it just might not be noticeably better than the 24mp.

It's a good lens overall. It would be very good (the high aperture starting point keeps it from excellent), but this model suffers from longevity issues. Something has gone wrong in the manufacturing and this lens breaks down hard after 2-4 years. When you put it on one day, it will click and then when you turn on the camera, it grey screens. Have had 3 die this way - that's an expensive ROI for this system. Cannot recommend, which is a shame given the paucity of lenses, let alone quality lenses. Yes, there's an EF lens catalog, but huge DSLR lenses on EF-M cams are extremely wonky in 2024. Just too much competition to justify.

@@markwiemels I was referencing to the "public claim" that it is one of the best lenses for the mount. Was nothing against your video. On the other hand, there are not many good lenses for EF-M unfortunately. So it's sadly even the truth. Which is why I will get a speed booster and normal adapter and just go with EF lenses. I kind of regret to cheap out on the cam and only bought the M50 Mark2. I should have spent a bit more to get a full frame cam. I had no idea how much impact it has on light and higher ISO settings. (my first camera I own)

I had a bad copy of the lens, this is a new copy of the lens, I mentioned in that video that maybe I had a bad copy. I mostly cover the lenses that I think are the best, If you pay attention I say that they are the best at different things, and most of my favourite lenses are not Canon lenses.

This lens seems to be very good. But between the Canon EF-M 11-22mm and the Laowa 9mm f/2.8, I think I would go with the Laowa. Even because I have the 23mm from Viltrox. Do you know the Laowa 9mm f/2.8? Maybe it's a good comparison. Congratulations for the work and for another excellent review.

I have seen good reviews of the Lowa, but the one copy of the lens that I tested was terrible. I have seen others say there are good copies and bad copies, I would buy from someplace that has a good return policy, if you go with the lowa.

11-22 is auto focus, also has image stabiliser so you can shoot down to as low as 1/15 to allow more light. Plus having the versatility of the 11-22 makes it a much better all day lens, especially when paired with a prime like say the 32 f1.4
