On Day 8 of our trip to Pakistan we traveled from Islamabad to Skardu to begin our Himalaya / Karakoram Mountain region, Gilgit-Baltistan, part of this Pakistani food tour. If you haven’t seen the other videos in this series, watch them all here: • Street Food in Pakista...
We flew from Islamabad to Skardu, in Gilgit-Baltistan. Even the flight was spectacular as we passed by Nanga Parbat enroute to the gorgeous city of Skardu.
Quick snack in Skardu - After landing we proceeded through security and immigration and continued on to Skardu town. We stopped in Skardu town to run a few errands along the way, and we happen to stop just outside a small shop selling chapli kebabs and a few different Pakistani curries. We had to stop for a quick snack. The chapli kebabs were excellent as usual, and the saag with meat curry was spectacular.
Total price - 680 PKR ($5.05)
Serena Shigar Fort (www.serenahote...) - It was about a 30 minute drive from Skardu to Shigar, and it was a spectacular drive through the mountains until we emerged into Shigar, another lush valley. The scenery was other-worldly. We checked into Serena Shigar Fort (thanks to them for sponsoring our stay).
Baltistan Food - The real highlight of the day was having a local Baltistan food dinner where an amazing family prepared 14 different traditional dishes. Many of the dishes included whole grains, fresh goat, and plenty of apricot oil for seasoning and flavor. It was an amazing meal, and fellowship, and just a taste of the Baltistan, Pakistan.

From UK, im not sure yet we will decide couple of months before as some places i can not take my youngest child . My parents House is in District Bhimber last time i went was in 2011 with eldest daughter who was 6 she loved it. Leonaza7 - you know what I think we’re going to do a mini series on Pakistani dishes. We’re focusing on Filipino dishes at the moment since that’s another underrated cuisine but Pakistani food looks so delicious!!

J-Mac, most of the food is basically indian food, although with variants depending on the local ingredients. I.e. most indian restaurants where I live in Europe are owned by pakistanis lol. You have to remember, that before 1947 there was no Pakistan, and so indian muslims had to migrate to what we now we know as Pakistan, but we still share the same food, music, movie culture and official language(urdu/hindi). The british really fucked up the most of the world with their colonial empire.

@@manashhandique3958 Correction! Dear we were a part of the Great Tibetian Empire some 1000+ years back - that's why Baltistan was previously called 'Tibet Khord'. The similarity in language is only bcoz of that. Then we remained a part of Kashmiri Sikh Dogras before the Partition of 1947. We have never been the subjects of any Hindu ruler. In fact, after Islamic revolution, in the majority Hindu region - the subcontinent - the Hindu remained the subjects of mainly Muslim rulers and Ranjit Singh. Anyways, Our forefathers threw the Dogras out of our area with axes and sticks and snatched our independece. That is the history. Go through the history first and then discuss. Don't try to unduly elevate your 'power'. I know how powerful you are.
