Whoa wait. Hang on a sec. I struggle with the clean in getting my wrist under it but you're the first person I've seen do it with a supinated grip like that at the bottom and not just a straight overhand or neutral grip. I'm definitely going to give this a shot tomorrow. UPDATE: IT WORKED. I find it a lot more natural this way. I bang my forearm a little bit but as I get more proficient that should go away.

Nick Noyes Keep the elbow glued to your body and push your hand through the handle once its about to flip over. Also your problem suggest that u are lettin the kb travel to far away from your body. You have to keep it as close as possible and "tame the arc". Try puttin a newspaper in your armpit and dont let it drop. This will help u to keep the elbow close to your body. Hope this helps abit at least...

Nice and to the point! Thanks! Quick question - If I'm doing two arm KB swing with a 20kg KB (and it's just the right weight), what would you recommend for the clean? Should I also do it with the 20kg or do I need to go lighter? I'm doing this at home and currently only have the one KB. Should I work with what I have (fewer reps probably) or invest in a lighter KB (16kg maybe)?

Hi Mark. Absolutely phenomenal channel! Regarding the clean, is there a major difference if one were to finish each clean by returning the kettlebell to the floor for each rep? Also, regarding the above method, the KB tends to bounce on my arm when I bring it to rack position. Any ideas as to why? Thank you so much!
@MarkWildman3 жыл бұрын
A dead clean (where it touches the ground each time) is a different excercise that the swing clean. I teach the swing clean first because I think it’s safer for people with back injuries. And I just assume everyone has had a back injury as common practice.
@MarkWildman3 жыл бұрын
Regarding the bounce. It’s probably about finess. You probably are accelerating all the way up. The needs to be a deceleration. Accelerate then decelerate (the finess) to avoid the banging arm

Would you train this with volume cycles like the snatch or emom like the swing?
@MarkLidsterfitnessgeezer5 жыл бұрын
Great Video Mark. Would only question why you suggest the thumb should be pointing toward the body in the swing phase. Most pro sport kettlebell athletes have the thumb facing forwards or at worst sideways to minimise the turn needed to get the kb in the right position for the catch before the rack and to keep the elbow as close to the body as possible. Maybe you're promoting a harder style where efficiency in this area is not the goal?
@eamonob843 жыл бұрын
Correct, efficiency is less important in hard style, but he's also mentioned in another video he does it for the safety of the elbow on the back swing, so there's no chance of hyper extending if you end up swinging it too far.

Mark (love your videos), I’ve been trying for the last several months to master the single bell clean (no coach due to covid/money) with thumb pointed back, with very little success. However, I seem to be quite decent at cleans when I point my thumb forward (more like you’d see in competition doing double bells). Is there anything wrong with this or is it simply a matter of preference? I know, do it more better, but I was just wondering why. Thanks so much.
@MarkWildman3 жыл бұрын
It’s a preference. It’s about hip movements. You can do both or either.
@eamonob843 жыл бұрын
Just be careful of your elbow on the way back, since it could potentially hyper extend if you push too far on the back swing.

You mentioned it's effort just to keep the kettlebell in the rack position - bit of a weird idea, but would it be a viable exercise just to hold it there for as long as possible after cleaning it? Would this be bad for you in any way or would it help with stability/strength?
@MarkWildman3 жыл бұрын
Excellent idea. In competition training you do this. 6 reps / min so 10 sec for each rep. 5 min per side. Then 7 / min Build to 20 / min. An advanced time under tension idea if you are limited on kettlebells. If you have all the weights. Then a simple time efficient idea

I had this problem and found I was waiting too late to start bending my elbow. It looks like the kettlebell stays a bit closer to your body than in a snatch movement. Please note that I am a complete beginner though, got a 12Kg before UK lockdown - I might be wrong

What worked for me was paying attention to the twist. Making sure my backswing was ‘Thumb To Bum’ and then wrapping the bell around my arm as it approaches the top rather than throwing the bell over.
