Thank you for making these videos! The Lumix series has so many features it often makes you feel lost! I can see a use for HDR in landscape photo when you don't want to develop raw afterwards. It seems to prevent clouds and bright skies from burning out. My personal favourite is rather to use the highlight/shadow curve to bring up the shadows and dampen the highlights. I like that you can set them like curves from +-5 in each direction. I especially find it useful in combination with the monochrome photo style.

Yes, agreed that's a great way to balance shadows and highlights. Thank you for sharing your methods. Cheers!

I finally figured out tripods are usually needed for consistent pics. Thanks for the cropping warning when using HDR mode. All the new auto type modes are amazing. Problem is I'm working hard on manual and aperture mode. Auto is starting to get in my way. It takes longer to get it right but very worth it. You shoot action, S.B. I shoot wildlife and landscape. The action and wildlife are similar. Regardless, there is similarities. Thanks for another informative video.
@ImageMaven4 жыл бұрын
Action and wildlife definitely do have some similarities, except that I rarely use a focal length longer than 25mm. A tripod is definitely recommended for landscapes, (and for holding up those long wildlife lenses). A tripod helps you pause and compose, and allows you a slower shutter speed so you can get deep depth of field, and controls camera shake, something that most landscape shooters like to have. Thanks for stopping by. Happy hunting Leland.

Recently got a refurbished ZS200 which has a "Post Focus" mode which takes a quick series of pictures (a bit like HDR) but focusing at various placements within the shot, and then allows the user to select different points of focus from the layered images and save. Wondering why they didn't go the extra step and allow to focus "stack" the images it takes so you can increase depth of field as desired. Would be a really great feature for macro shots in particular.

I see on the screen where you've gone into the iA Mode Menu & there showing is the i Handheld Night Shot - ON or OFF. I agree & would rather have 'control' of the HDR or the HHNS feature & not be left to the whims of the camera to use them. Do you know if the Hand Held Night Shot can be turned on in the G 9's main Menu ? This feature takes 5 rapid shots in low lighting conditions at a higher ISO & shutter speed & then combines them into a single image. It's great when you can't or don't want to use ' flash '. The image results are quite detailed / sharp. Thanks

Thanks, another one of your concise but clear videos. Haven’t tried HDR but have done bracket exposure. Will need to try this and see how it works. Hope you are doing well and not too much cabin fever. PS- just noticed something. I believe you have to be in JPG only mode for HDR to be available. If you are only shooting RAW the HDR option will be greyed out. RAW shooters would have to use the bracket option I believe.
@ImageMaven4 жыл бұрын
Yes exactly. Jpg only. I like the Regular HDR function but I don’t use it a whole lot. If you shoot raw you have quite a bit of exposure tolerance and you can pull in some highlights and open up shadows. But you probably know that. 😉 Always great to hear from you Steven. We’ve been let out of our homes a couple weeks ago, so I’m back at the skatepark a couple times a week now. It’s great to be playing outside again. Hope things are going well for you and yours. Cheers.

Thanks for posting this Marlene 👍 I'll give it a try tomorrow with my G9 but I'm with you about preferring to select HDR when I want to....not when the camera wants to. Since I starting shooting in RAW and editing in the Android Lightroom app on my Pixelbook I almost never shoot jpegs.
@ImageMaven4 жыл бұрын
This feature doesn't work with raw files. To test it out, you will need to shoot jpgs. Also it might not be something you'd use a lot, especially as you shoot raw files and can recover a lot of highlight and shadow detail from the raw file. Thanks for stopping in!

Oh and thanks for the tip about the Pixelbook. My iPad is out of date, so I've been looking for an alternative for traveling. I just find the colour isn't great on any of the Chromebooks I've tested out. Is the Pixelbook better for colour rendition? That's super important for me.

Hi Chris, Sorry for the long delay! iHDR does not work in RAW or RAW + JPG. Also if you're shooting in burst modes, 4K, 6K, Ext Tele converter, Time lapse, or when using flash. Remember in iHDR the camera decides when to engage it. If you want to definitely shoot HDR photos then set it up in HDR as described around 2:45 in the video.

Hi Marlene. Thanks for the great video. Have you compared the results of using HDR vs using the different flavors of i.Dynamic? Seems both attempt to expand the camera's dynamic range, but use different methods to achieve the results. Maybe a future video - or you've already done one and can point me to it :)
@ImageMaven4 жыл бұрын
No, I haven't done that comparison. As I shoot mostly moving subjects, I rarely use HDR. I'm a huge fan of the iDynamic settings though. I keep my camera on Auto iDynamic all the time unless I'm wanting deep dark shadows. I guess that's a comparison you'll have to make for yourself.
