Omg, I love Onni, he’s like my very first cockatoo b-bird who died recently. I watch Onni to remember how sweet my little b-bird was, as I didn’t take many videos. I have another cockatoo now who is a lot like Jersey. Like Onni, She hates having her nails trimmed. I usually use a dremmel like my vet uses. She also hates having me file them with the dremmel, but not nearly as much as clipping. If Onni liked his nails filed instead of clipped, its ok to go back to filing them. Most avian vets file a birds nails. There’s less chance of cutting their veins with a file. But oh boy! What a struggle. I’m glad I’m not the only one who has a production when its nail clipping time. It’s definitely a two person job!. And a lot depends a lot on the bird. My Moluccan cockatoo will give me his foot and patiently watched me with the electric nail file. No struggle, no towel or bribes. Try to do that with my macaw, and I come out of it with one less finger.!

I clip my own birds nails too. You’re so good with your birds and it’s amazing how calm they are when you’re clipping their nails. They’re not screaming or anything! I love you and your birds so much! ❤️

Hi, it is great but for my bird they use a bevel, as to have no sharpness left for his nails to get caught in anything. I've seen you use a clip, have you ever used a bevel?

@@carolhartley4448 that's the best way to trim birds nails or just taking an emery board, course and smooth, and literally is quicker than clipping them or worrying about hitting a blood line.

I found out from April's PAROTE PLAY HOUSE, that nutmeg is bad for them, and she buys this certain kind of cinnamon she uses. Hi Marlene and Genna! You did a wonderful job trimming your birds nails!!! Genna is so gentle as well as you Marlene. You are both very good with your birds. Jersey was so funny and Vinny was pretty good!!! My favorite part of the video was Jersey being happy on your shoulder after Vinny got his nails trimmed and after Cody got his nails trimmed and you and Genna said, "Yeah!!!" I love it when you do that for Jersey and she looks really happy!!! Cody and Leo were pretty good as well. Birds don't like to be wrapped up in a towel and have their nails trimmed in general but your birds were really good. It is very stressful for a bird to have it done at a vet or pet shop by strangers. My poor baby had some toes sprained from having his nails trimmed at the vet. So I never took him back there for a nail trim. I caused too much stress and they held his foot too hard. I bought sandy perches that kept them trimmed fairly well. They did not get over grown. Love, big hugs, birdie kisses. Barb, Beenie, Baby spirit :)))

Carol Hartley, they were scissors made specifically for clipping birds toenails and didn't cause snags. But I know people who use a drimmel on larger birds, which I think you are speaking of. I was just as surprised this was the way he felt most comfortable.

Carol Hartley, just in case it wasn't a typo it's called a drimmel. Make sure you get a really good brand of the bird clipping scissors so they are nice and sharp. I hope you are successful, but be careful.

I use nail cutters for cats/dogs. You get a nice clean cut, and much easier to use when you just need to snip an end off.

What brand? Cuz I keep commenting on how clippers leave sharp edges. Which is why I have them beveled with a tool most vets have and the birdstore that I take my bird to.

@@carolhartley4448 I found my clippers either at a Pets mart or Petco. Hv no idea what brand. Just look for a sturdy pair. Mine are nearly 30 years old. Hope you can get a pair...also work great if you have to trim their beaks.

Great job... The birds didn't seem stressed at all! We're going to do it this way next time, more relaxed and a bit less apprehensive. I'm sure our birds feel what we feel. Yoshi status angry for about 1 second, then he starts kissing me and talking like trying to tell me what just happened. Lots of wrong action and head bobbing. It's too funny!! 😂❤
