My dentist had a cockatiel that lived in the office. That bird was exceptional. He would greet everyone, sit on your finger, put his head down for a pet and kiss you if you were up to it. He had favorite patients but he was lovely with everyone who was open to his attentions. Kids adored him! Did wonders for calming very nervous patients.

I’ve had my green cheek conure for twelve years. She started out as the perfect apartment bird, but when she was five, I lived with a (human) couple who would fight a lot. Their fighting led to my conure developing separation anxiety that would cause her to panic scream when she couldn’t see me (it’s very loud for a small bird and neighbours definitely hear it). I moved out as soon as I could, but the damage was done and she still has remnants of that separation anxiety that make her scream from time to time. I recommend, whenever possible, protecting your birds from human drama (e.g., avoiding unstable roommates), not just to keep their noise level in-check, but to keep them mentally healthy generally.

To everyone saying stuff like "My (insert bird that was brought up in video) is so loud! Wdym" it's a scale 1-5. If you have ever heard a cockatoo scream, then I can assure you, your budgie is a 1 lol. All birds are loud, she is just relling you the one's that will most likely work the best. All birds are different, and this is mainly based on the general loudness of a bird, but, they vary. So, there is no way you are going to get a bird that doesn't talk or chatter.
@magikexpert
@magikexpert 4 жыл бұрын
You're absolutely right! No two birds are alike. You can have two birds from the same clutch, and they can be completely opposite in temperament or personality. But what she's doing here is giving a general description of each type of bird and how they act. And Claire is absolutely right. EVERY bird will make some type or types of noises and or talk. To what degree yours will????
@cheshireterror624
@cheshireterror624 4 жыл бұрын
Yeah, cockatoos and macaws are definitely the worst for noise, I lived with a psychotic cockatoo (who lives with my sister in BC) and currently live with a blue gold macaw, and I personally own a 4 month old cockatiel. The macaw gets loud but so does my cockatiel, the cockatiel is more ear piercing, but the macaw is definitely much louder

☆PLEASE READ IF CONSIDERING BUYING PET BIRD☆ Just a small note: most if not all conures are really, reaaaaaallllly chirpy. Sun conures, Jenday conjures, and golden conures especially. They are extremely loud for a reason however. Conures are real attention hogs. They love it. One way to overcome the screams and singing is to keep them engaged! Carry them around with you for I recommend as long as you can throughout the day, and when you have to put them in their cage try to give them foraging toys! I wish all owners good luck!

I love cockatiels, they love to cuddle, and get head scratches!! I now have a love bird, his name is Romeo as he’s such a lover!! He’s very quiet, he doesn’t make a sound until I uncover his cage! If you want a strong bond, only get one bird!! If you get another bird, those two birds will bond to each other and you will lose your bond to that initial bird! It broke my heart when I was given another cockatiel and my Angel bonded to Gabby and then he didn’t want to step up anymore, and when she was on eggs, he’d even attack me…… hope this helps!

I would also add as a cousin to the African Grey, the Red Bellied Parrot. Ours speaks very well (not as well as a grey :)) and very friendly. She is quiet, very rarely screams and if she "screams" it is not even close to the noise my Blue Crown makes. She can be chatty, and when she talks she is very clear. Other bonus, while when out and about she will cuddle with our green cheek, she also still likes hanging out with my husband or I.

Then by all means, go do your research and get you a pair of finches. Marlene primarily has experience with parrots, so that's what she discusses on her channel. You notice she didn't name other types of wildlife,such as doves, pigeons, or humming birds, but you can keep those as pets too if you like.

Love it how your Cockatiel knew what time you'd be home. My female...Smokey...knew what time I'd be home and would "turn up the volume" every day at about 16:45 until I went in to see her!! I could hear her at the bottom of my street...I do miss her, so gentle yet full of character.

Hey, I love your birds! Am surprised that Senegal parrots didn't get a mention tho tbh I am now on my second senegal, both whilst living in an apartment and I have never had any problems with noise and I'm pretty sure my neighbours wouldn't know i had birds if I hadn't told them! I also have a budgie, a cockatiel (best buddies!) and a pair of parrotlets. Such awesome time wasters 😊 xxx

I love birds and vicariously enjoy them through you, Marlene. I am however the kind of person who shouldn't own a bird. I am a cat person and part of that is due to the fact that cats are so independent. They don't take a lot of care and take their socializtion when they want it. My personality is so insular that integrating birds into my life would be difficult. I mention all this because you make owning a bird look so rewarding and easy... People need to keep their own temperments in mind because parrots deserve great owners, not just someone who wants one because they seem fun...

Good for you for knowing your limits! I grew up with cats and switched to birds in my 30s. Some birds are good at self regulating, but many are more attached to their person than the average house cat.

I think that the budgie should be a 2-3 on the loud scale. I have had then and they can get VERY loud. Sometimes they scream and you just want to beg them to stop. Of course, it all depends on the bird but I have / had quite a few and they definitely might not be the best apartment bird.

Having lovebirds myself, I agree with your analysis of lovebirds! They are great and while they do have moments of chattiness, it should be pointed out that they sleep about 12 hrs at night, so they won't likely be chatty while you are sleeping.

I have a Peach Faced Lovebird in my apartment and she is attached to me at the hip (well, shoulders haha). Man, she is such a bright and sweet bird! She loves to make kissy noises, take showers with me, be on me and just hangout. Sometimes she just wants to snuggle in my hand haha! She loves her little head scratched, she attempts to dance to music, squeaks when I whistle to her... She will be 2 years old in July, I adopted her when she was 9 weeks old. I love my little baby, Piper.

He screams at 6 am. 7 am When I feed him 8 am When I let him out 9am for attention 10 am because he loves his own voice. Around 2pm when I let him back in his cage to make sure he eats. 4pm When I let him out again All day when I leave the room. 😂😂😂

I never hear about Kakariki, their so quiet. Though they throw food everywhere well all birds does. They are also very curious which make them easy to handtame, not all kakarikis but most. It’s hard to train a kakariki to talk but not impossible. I have a kakariki named Ozzi and he’s really nice and funny but sadly my other kakariki Pidge died yesterday but she was really handtamed and loved company. It’s not impossible to have a kakariki alone they are very curious and full of fantasy so buying them some toys will keep them busy for days! It’s a perfect first bird.

My green cheek conure was such a good conure I loved him my whole family did. We got him at about 7 weeks or less don't remember but so we got him from a breeder. His name was Rio and the first week he loved us so much. We would come home from school and he would fly to either me or my brother. It was heart touching that Rio showed sign of emotion to us and got a closer bond to him. About 2 years or 1/1/2 one and a half can't remember I came home from school with my brother and found a feather on the ground I started to worry and we called his name "Rio" no AWNSER we ask our parents they respond with the 2 words "he's died" few hours ago. I didn't believe and cryed for days skipped school had a very hard rough time. He was badly injured and was having his eye hang out and neck destroyed as my little brother closed the door on him by accident as he was still a little toddler and did not understand anything. My mom hid the truth from me saying he hit the window but at one point few years later she told me how he died and how he had a door accident and got the door closed on him by my little innocent brother. We Still miss him from this day. RIP Rio

My uncle has an Amazon. Super loud and independent. She only likes my little cousin and younger kids. She used to stay with another family but they couldn’t socialize with her often and kept her in the garage so maybe that’s why she’s not super social. She so loud and anytime anyone walks into the kitchen she screams until she’s giving recognition but then doesn’t want anything to do with you. So we just let her scream or cover her up when she’s having a fit. She does whistle and say hello, hello pretty bird, Noah, and oh my god.

when i first met my mom’s green cheek he had already bonded to my momma (pretty much in a few days 😂 very social) and brother (took a bit longer) he met me and was hesitant but liked me. after i started watching him the cockatiels, and my brothers doves when mom went on trips with my brother mango really bonded with me like sometimes mom calls him a traitor lol. now when he sees me packing to go back home he does this very sad cheep (sounds like a cry) and tries to take my stuff out of my bag and undo the zipper and even resorts to nipping when i try to zip the bag. I always get sad and now i do little stops and we cuddle and i give him scritches. seriously loves his human sister and i love my bird sibling so so much.

Lineolated parakeets are great for apartments too. It doesn't seem like people talk about linnies that much but they are amazing little birds! They're super quiet and make more of a mumbley type of chatter rather than squawky little bird chatter. They're super cuddly and friendly and are such little acrobats. People call them bat-like parrots because they have a more forward posture and they love to hand upside down XD. They are super pretty bird with wonderful colour mutations and have such sweet personalities. I highly recommend them as "beginner" birds too. They're very well rounded parrots. Love the video Marlene! You're awesome! ^__^

I live in a 1 bedroom apartment with concrete floors. My neighbours can't hear my GCC when she occasionally flock calls. I have a pretty quiet GCC as she hardly ever flock calls or does the high pitch whistle. Her cage is in the open living room / kitchen space on a wall that faces outside. Great little parrot for apartments if you don't live in an older unit with cardboard walls.

I laughed at the part "it will feel like... Someone's hammering... Forever." Your videos are so great and educating. I have decided of having a bird in my house. Atm I'm thinking about the right species choise. I have this pretty large house and lots of room with extra high ceiling, so there is space to fly. Thing that I am most worried about is winter conditions. I live in Finland and my house might get too chilly for most of the birds. Need still to do some homeworks.
