Brayden Shambo I’m pretty sure he’s trying to understand the stress that his wife is under or wanting to understand to help her, and it’s not like it’s just her who is overwhelmed with stress, he is too even if it’s not as extreme as the stress she is under. They also got through this calmly in the end.

He might not have understood the long term progression that happened underneath the surface to get her from “cool with kids and dog” to “dog needs to get out”. I follow you there and get that. They may not have had those check ins to be on the same page. In the actual scene here itself I think he was emotionally “temperature gauging” the situation and trying to stay calm while he learned more about where she was and what she specifically needed.

Marley was just hyper not a bad dog . I had a cat named Milo that broke my blinds pretty much and was too hyper . I now have a 3 year old all black kitty and shes more calmer but loves the kitchen counter but loves to sleep and eat play too

Jennifer did an excellent job in this scene. She really sold the overwhelmed, frustrated, and exhausted parent. Caring for kids can be overwhelming. Add a hyperactive dog into the mix, and I can see why her character had the reaction she did.

This is understandable, she doesn't really mean it I know this because I used to say the same thing.Its easy to keep a well behaved dog, but at the end of the day when my dog was being a nuisance I knew it was my fault not his. Being fair: In the book, Marley never knocked down the children unless he was extremely exuberant, not randomly. He was actually a gentle giant who knew the children were fragile and he shouldn't hurt them. What caused it was him tearing a couch cushion and John Grogan didn't see it in time for Jenny to hit the roof about it. I'm not saying what she did was right, it was just that it wasn't stressed that caused it, it was clear that Jenny was having severe depression after Connor and needed help to calm it down, Marley got the severe brunt of the depression.

The reason why they didn't show it was because of the obvious: Jenny in a fit of anger actually hit Marley, several times like a drum with her fists, it didn't hurt him physically, but it was enough to not be shown in the movie. It also made it clear it wasn't stress that drove her to say that, it was actually severe depression that she couldn't control. He said when she spoke to him like that, it was looking at a stranger with no emotion.

To be honest, I didn’t like John in this scene. I feel horrible for Jenny. She’s taking care of three kids, which is already a lot of work, but she’s also taking care of an untrainable dog that’s a danger to her kids, and John is being dismissive of Jenny’s concerns. Sometimes the best thing to do is get rid of the dog, especially if it can seriously injure your family. Family always comes before a dog.
