I think the best thing that ever happened to me was when my wife lost a fish. Me and my wife who was my girlfriend at the time were at lake st. Claire in Michigan fishing for small mouth bass. My girlfriend was absolutely slaying them on a tube jig but she wasn't feeling the whole fishing thing at all. Then all the sudden she hooks into a fish that about ripped the rod out of her hands. She is freaking out, I'm trying to coach her on how to fight a big fish. I don't know if it was a muskie or a pike but it was at least 40 inches, It leapt out of the water about 20 foot from shore, breaking the line. It was tragic and beautiful and because of that day my wife still fishes with me. That was maybe 4 years ago. I thought this was an appropriate story considering this was a muskie video were you caught a bass and mine was a bass trip almost ending with a muskie. Love your videos, keep up the good work

The most positive best thing that happened to me out on a fishing trip was :- I had a life changing psychotic break when I was at the lowest point in my life. I ended up in the mental health unit. But from there I was able to change my whole life style, and with a whole heap of hard work turn my life around, get a great job and still be here for my beautiful family. My turning point 😊

one of the best things from my childhood. I was taking a canoe trip with my parents down the Missouri river in Mt. it was the end of the trip and I had run out of my childhood bait, night crawlers. I looked around for something to put on the hook, a hopper, anything really. Then I spotted it! A misplaced green grape dropped into the gravel along the bank. I hooked it up and cast out. A giant armored grey behemoth of a fish rolled on the surface and my 1980s 6lb test spinning set up went taught. The fish of my life was on, a giant sturgeon! However, being a cheap 1980s spinning set up there wasn't a drag and the line pinged and in that moment my legendary catch and self worth vanished down river...the best and worst day of fishing in my life. As an adult I got to fish the columbia river and found my self worth once again in a nice green sturgeon.

Best thing for me was when I was 8 years old and was fishing at a dam with my dad and 2 older brothers. I was mad I didn't catch anything but they did, so I slammed my jig in the water about 2 feet in front of me from a big boulder I was standing on and reeled it in and out from under the boulder a nice 3 1/2 foot Northern Pike snatched my jig right in front of me. I went nuts sand started screaming "Who's the best baby... who's the best!! Was the coolest thing I will ever remember. I had the biggest fish of the day.

The best thing ever to happen to me while fishing was when i was really young. I never really lived with my dad growing up but he influenced me in motorcycles, good old fashion rock music, and fishing. He took me only once when i was really young and i don't remember anything but him hooking a fish and handing me his rod with a smile on his face. That single memory got me into fishing and i'm glad it happened to me.

Best thing would be my most significant fish of all time. My best friend past away due to leukemia almost 3 years ago and fishing was our favorite way of hanging out. After he passed away I had a surface iron (California yellowtail lure) wrapped with a picture of him holding his biggest yellowtail. Took the iron on countless trips before I finally was rewarded with a bite on his tribute iron. Ended up catching a 23 lb yellowtail on it and it’s my most proud fish to this day! Retired the surface iron forever after that and I have it hanging on my wall next to a picture of him. Best and most memorable time I’ve ever had on the water!

I was with my dad and brother fishing at my Great Aunt’s Pond. My dad was throwing his Heddon Tiny Crazy Crawler in Red and White and hooked the biggest bass of his life. He got it in and wouldn’t let anyone else oar the boat bc he was afraid he would fall in and loose the fish. So he oared the Jon Boat in one side at a time. 😂. It was such a special memory for me. After surviving 2 cancers and loosing my dad I decided to make a bait in his honor and the Big D’s Crawler was born! I now make baits at my bait company Jon Jon’s Outdoors and The Big D’s crawler was my first launch. Funny how a fishing moment can change a life. Thanks Nate for the opportunity to share JJ

BEST FISHING MEMORY: I didn’t spend a large amount of time with my grandfather while he was still alive, but when I did visit him, we would always fish a pond behind my grandparents house. Never caught anything above about 2lbs until a month after he passed....We we’re cleaning out the house getting ready to sell it, and I decided to take a break and fish the pond one more time. LITERALLY my first cast caught my PB 8.5lb largemouth bass. Still to this day have not caught one that big. I know my grandfather was watching over me that day and every day since! Fishing is much more than hooking a fish and throwing it back. Life lessons can be learned each trip.

The best thing that ever happened to me while fishing occured at night when my dad and I were inshore kayak fishing. After making it out to our favorite spot between two small islands, my dad and I both had a fish on our first cast, me a 16" speckled seatrout and my dad a small catfish. That was the first and only cast for each of us that night. I landed the trout and decided to keep it, and my dad released his fish but somehow flipped his kayak, lost his pole (with new lure I got him for Christmas), and destroyed his new phone that was in his pocket. We laughed the whole way home and enjoyed the fresh caught trout as soon as we got back.

I was 20 years old at the time, and being a girl I expected a lot of lengthy conversations with other fishermen about how and what I did wrong, and it did happen, but then an old lady came to me, put her hand on my shoulder and said that she haven't seen a female fisherman here since she was my age, and that she's proud of me and really hopes that I will continue fishing. She made a decent cast for a 3 year old and caught her own little skipjack. Maybe the size of a dollar bill. She was screaming and crying and laughing all at once. It was definitely a proud moment as a father and a fisherman. It doesn't get much better than that. I caught a couple big blues that day so all in all...was an amazing day to be remembered! Walking upstream kicking up rocks the crawfish just walked up the wire and we just grabbed them. Went to a lake to fish and nadda! Dumped the leftover crawfish in the lake and my little brother freeked out for a few years because he was afraid they would bite him when he went swimming. Love those memories.

My favorite memory is something that has stayed with me for over 30 years. I grew up in San Antonio, Texas in the mid 80s and one day my mom and dad decided to take us to the beach and go fishing. We had never seen the ocean before, we would fish the creeks and ponds around town but that was it. We make the drive to Corpus Christie and arrived late at night. The ocean looked very intimidating and melancholy to say the least, a vast darkness as far as you can see. The gulf breeze cooled by the waters was fresh and soothing compared to the hot summer day that preceded our arrival. We had a couple of small flashlights and as we walked towards the water we noticed lizards darting around everywhere! Man, were they fast! Well we soon found out they weren't lizards they were fiddler crabs lol. We caught one and were amazed. We cautiously walked closer towards the unrelenting roar of crashing waves, peering for any sort of life that might await. My older sister screamed "OMG What is that?" We walk over and this large animal appeared to be dancing in the white capped surf crashing on the shore. We were all stumped! I called for dad to come help us catch this strange beast. (our flashlights were not that bright, cheap ones and non LED). But they occasionally lit the creature up and it would dive below the waves again. We were freaking out! My dad walks down casually...and walks into the surf and picked up the beastly coconut that was trying to wash ashore LOL. False alarm. Anyways, at day break we fished on the pier and seen many fish we never seen before. I was intrigued and mystified at the different types of fish. An old gentleman helped me rig my pole up and gave me a squid to use as bait. I dropped it down on the deep end. No one else around was catching anything and my pole doubled over. I was so excited and scared at the same time because the pier was so high up. I looked down and saw a large striped fish and he told me it was a good Spade fish. The hook came out of its mouth and I lost the fish but the memory of that "one that got away" has stayed with me ever since. When I joined the Army in 1995, I would come to rely on those memories to calm myself to sleep sometimes when needed especially when halfway across the planet from home. I have many more memories but this one memorable day, my first day at the beach, is one that has always stood out. It is almost 5am I am sleepy now...Good night/Day/Evening to all and thanks if you made it this farm into my story. :)

It’s so hard to choose a best thing that’s happened. Honestly. Just any time I get to spend with the squad trout fishing and having beers in our usual hole on the river while catching up every year is always special for me.

Fishing in Alaska with my Dad, we had 10 minutes left till the river closed for spawning King salmon. We where fishing all afternoon and not hing. He said he was done and sitting down. I told him we had a few minutes and told him one more cast. He made one more, and hooked a 30 lb. King. 40 minutes later he finally landed it. The picture still hangs on his wall.

I believe one of the best things that ever happened to me on a fishing trip. Me and a couple friends were fishing for steelhead on a river in northern California, we got skunked and nobody caught anything. Towards the end of the day I was taking a break on the hike back to the truck and while sitting on a rock reflecting on the day I noticed something floating in the river. I went to fetch it and picked up an unopened and ice cold Coors light. It was the perfect way fishing off the day on the river. Love your videos and keep up the good work.

I know the contest is long over but I love this story. Took my youngest son, who was probably 5 at the time, fishing on a 13 foot aluminum that my grandfather left me when he passed. I found a little willow tree growing right on the water that's branches were hanging nicely over the lake. Tossed out a waxworm on a hook with a little bobber and it was fish on in probably 5 seconds. My little 5 year old reeled in 120 pumpkin seeds that day one after another, probably one every couple minutes for hours. We ran out of bait and started fishing with little chunks of gummie worms and they liked that even better. He finally said "dad can we stop fishing, i don't want to reel in fish anymore". Those are words that as a dad of fishing kids you don't hear often. My hands were so destroyed from taking fish off and baiting hooks i couldn't hold the steering wheel on my way home. Worst day. Went out on a small lake in ohio with my oldest son who was 12 at the time. Got across the lake and a thunderstorm popped up out of nowhere. Hail, lightning, probably 60 mph winds. I ran for cover in a little cove and waited out the storm with a terrified kid with only a army poncho to keep him dry. Finally passed over, i bailed the boat out and back out we went. My son hooks a huge saugeye, biggest one I've ever seen, and fights it all the way to the boat like a pro. I reach down and gill it, lost my footing, dropped the fish and snapped his pole i had just bought him the week before. I was furious at myself, i know better than to move fast on a boat. He looked up at me and said "it's ok dad I'll catch another one just like it and it's just a fishing pole". That statement brought actual tears to my eyes, still makes me a little misty eyed just thinking about it and im not 100% sure why. I said "ok buddy, how about we catch him another day, let's go grab some ice cream or something on the way home"

I was fishing/camping in lapland and my rod snapped. I didnt have a replacement with me. I had caught some fish earlier. i gathered up my gear and i walked to a near by cottage (i dont know if this is the corect word) Anyway i ate the fish what i caught, and i hear atv's coming to the cottage. One of my oldest friends was riding one of them, he instantly knew it was me and greeted me. We chatted a bit and he asked me if i needed something and i said that my socks are soaking wet and my rod snapped. He just laughed and said i cant help you with your socks but i have a rod for you. Then we just went sleeping. Next morning we packed up our gear and went fishing and i gaught a quite big salmon (my pb). We ate and my friend continued his jorney, And i continued walking. We met again after that and i gave his rod back. On this trip i gaught my biggest salmon yet, with my friends rod. I met one of my best and oldest friends, And i had a great time. What more can you ask for. Sorry about the bad english.

Best fishing moment was about 2 months ago right after my grandmother’s funeral, we went to the family lake and my little cousin started fishing with some bread on a trident ended up catching a 3 foot pike! Which was crazy to me since I can usually wait hours without catching anything... and as I was telling that to myself, he had caught another bigger one! And then another! To me it was a sign since we had dropped my grandmother’s ashes in that lake that she loved so much. We ended up keeping 2 of them to eat off of the barbecue and it was actually delicious and a great family time. Best fishing moment!

My best fishing trip memory is catching my first trophy sized largemouth with my dad when I was 14. We vacationed at my grandparents retirement home on Kentucky lake. My grandpa had the bass mounted for me (it’s the only bass I’ve kept in 30 years) and it’s a great memory I have of grandpa now that he’s gone.

My favorite part about fishing now is taking my younger brother fishing. The way he gets excited when he catches a fish brightens up the trip without fail. He recently caught a walleye all by himself off of the dock and thought it was the greatest thing ever. Reminds me of when I was a kid and my grandpa too me fishing 👍🏻

took my son fishing at a guys pond that I worked with. We were fishing brim as he was trying to thin the population. My son, 16 at the time, had been catching hand size brim. While reeling in a brim he had to go passed a small dock; out of nowhere a 24 inch largemouth came, hit the brim knocking it off the hook and hooking himself. My son set the hook quick and landed his first largemouth bass. The look of pride and excitement in his face was the greatest.
