A Look Around the Ancient ST KATHERINE’S CHURCH on THE NORTH DOWNS

I have returned to Merstham for a look inside the Ancient St Katherine’s Church. The Church is on the route of the Ancient North Downs Way Trackway dating from the 12th Century and dedicated to Saint Katharine of Alexandria. The Parish is mentioned in Documents as early as 675 ACE and it is certain that an earlier Saxon Church stood on or near the present site and the Area could be even much older than that! Love the video Marc, a very serene setting (bar the unfortunate road noise), capped off with a very nice looking pub lunch. I certainly miss those heady days of the beautiful villages,churches and of course the mandatory pint and lunch in a traditional country pub. Its 40 years plus since i have seen in the flesh, so thanks to Paul Whitewick I look forward to following you on the YT & yearn for the good old days!

Great stuff, Marq. You may have noticed on the north side of the church (at about 8:00), there’s a bit of the church with a temporary roof. This is an old Victorian vestry and work had started to remove it and replace with a (very much in keeping) extension for toilets and a kitchen. Sadly, the contractor went bust so they have had to scale back their plans but they should be starting in the new year.

Yes , the churchyard needed a strim & mow but preferably when you’re not around filming there! It gave that feeling of being a very ancient site being on that elevated position. Not seen your previous videos so a new area for me! Thanks Marq.
