BTW $50/yr is just an introductory price, it's supposed to go to $80/yr, and monthly subscription apparently briefly was $16 but got changed so quickly that almost nobody saw it (info from the Verge). This really doesn't feel like Marquez, but I think he's been changing a lot over a couple of years: he's got a team, and a huge studio, and a whole separate channel about AVs, and a podcast with up to 3 ads in a row in it, etc, etc, etc. So I guess this is just where he is at now. Oh and another nitpicky thing -- the SD version of every wallpaper (available after watching two 30s ads initially) is just 1920x1080, despite every single phone on the market now having a screen taller than 16:9 and thus more than 1920 pixels in height (iPhones have weird resolutions but they are also bigger now). Which means that the SD version is basically a preview that you'd actually use as a wallpaper only if you are fine with screenshotting a preview and using it as a wallpaper. PS -- loving the channel, and the iphone video is totally fine for this format, I'd never notice if you didn't mention it

Wow, I hope everybody reads this comment! Tons of good info. I had no idea the SD version isn't even optimized for iPhone. Just another insane detail to miss. Also happy you didn't notice a difference in the video quality. Filming with my phone is so much easier!

I'd rather pay for Apple's Mac Pro wheels than for a PNG subscription 😂 They done lost their minds with that app. Wallpapers will never be that serious

They not even PNG’s, they are JPEG’s lol

Haven’t seen MBHD video, nor the follow up media, so this is the first time I hear about this. But based on how you described he come up with the idea (most searched term is his name + wallpaper) it sounds backwards. Not thinking about what value he can bring with his brand to the audience, but ehat is the easiest way to monetize what’s already out there. Ngl, quite disappointed if the app is as shallow as you described bc he really is known for his integrity. Great points in the video especially the “why are we making a wallpaper app in 2024?”

The dude just realized he is so famous that even if 1000 people bought his shitty app subscription he would still be making a ton of passive income every year to buy more Porches or whatever, what he didn’t realized is that he was going to take a huge hit to his reputation, the release of this horrible cash grab attempt just reveals his hypocrisy going against many of the things he is been saying for years on his videos while criticizing other people’s products. I unsubscribed from his channel and his podcast a while back, I’d much rather watch smaller creators who are more down to earth and have less of an incentive to be biased like he is.

I feel similarly. Once a creator gets so big they tend to lose some of the grit and struggle that makes smaller creators shine. That being said, I would love to get big enough to be a hypocrite ha!

No one forces anyone to pay for all the items and businesses Marques is happy to destroy with bad reviews so which is it?

Simple answer: Greed.

Unsubscribing just because he released a bad app seems a bit extreme no?
