As much as I love personal finance, I love that Corey wrote a book that is not on personal finance. They are truly reaching financial independence to follow their passions.

Kudos to that!

Thanks! There are plenty of personal finance books, but not many on applying comedy to healthcare :) Will say there are plenty of dad books but I think the one I have coming in May is pretty great 😎 Thanks for listening and commenting!

When a person reaches coast fire that is the perfect time to start having babies and have time to watch them grow up and attend their school events. I think that is why coast fire is so attractive to people. Most people want to be parents someday.

I agree. Coast FIRE is great for parents who want to focus more time on the family.

Great job Cassie and Cory! I am in a similar position as you with 3 little kids under 6. We are just 32 and 33 right now so to see someone in a similar position already go through this it gives us confidence that we can reach coast fire one day too. Thanks for sharing your story!!

For the people criticizing them for for not saving more, realize most younger pharmacists I know come out with 200+k in student loans and I also know other healthcare professional with 80-120k in loans i.e. radiology techs, nurses, PA

If they are not retiring for 20 years their nest egg will easily be over $4 Million

Isn't their savings relatively low for a NP and pharmacist at their age?

I'd say being a millionaire in your 30s is incredible considering over 50% of six-figure earners are living paycheck to paycheck (source: Time.com).

@@MarriageKidsandMoney It's generally recommended to have 3x your income saved by 40, this is likely right where this couple is/was when they were working full time.

They probably had loans and lower pay from government gigs

It's 1/2 of the that couple here! Fair criticism, and only so much time for nuance. I had 6 figures of student loan debt to overcome starting in 2012 when I started working full time, and my wife worked through NP school from 2012-2015 to limit, but not totally avoid loans. Also bought 1st home in 2013. Got student loan free in 2017, which is year we discovered FIRE/started to own personal finance. Had a number of other dumb money moves-new car, whole life, so I would say despite ourselves, we got to where we are all while having 3 kids, moving to our 2nd home, and having a pretty great life in the midst of it all. @@themadhatter312 Good point on the somewhat lower pay but probably still at least $250k combined and public service student loan forgiveness for 2 very expensive degrees.

FIRE has evolved so much over the years. How are you pursuing it?

They both had high income profession, so of course they can easily save up to coast fire. This is not as impressive as families that have limited income & achieve fire. Not Impressed
@coryjenks79526 ай бұрын
That's a fair criticism, and as we say, we have chosen professions that give us big shovels. As a counter, the number of other professionals in our field who make as much if not more than us hear of us cutting back on work and say "It must be nice" is too high to count at this point. Easier than those who make less? Yes. But still not common among our peers.

Income will be a big factor..but it will not be a determining factor for success.. A lot of high earners are still broke because they lack discipline..
