Abortion is an incredibly difficult subject … most abortions take place very early and for reasons that are very individual to the pregnant person. No one is going to make or pressure people into it … also later abortions are usually involving very tragic and/or risky situations … a raped 10 year old … a heroin addicted homeless woman … a couple who discover a fatal condition in the unborn … a septic non viable pregnancy . Everybody - guided by whoever/whatever - should make the decision for themselves. Most Catholics do use contraception and access abortion. God is good and great and loves and helps us through. Life is beautiful and messy .

In your statement “most abortions take place early”, what are you basing this on, and where are your statistics to back the statement? Additionally, the entire premise of what you’ve said, here, is an argument citing the exceptions rather than the rule. Let’s take my country, for example. Surely, you don’t expect readers to believe that the millions of abortions since roe vs Wade are the exceptions you cite above? You are right, the rape of a ten year old is a horrible and inexcusable crime for which there is no reparation. A person cannot “unrape” another person but here is the thing - a person can also not unmurder a baby. It’s hard, I know, but aborting the child is never going to take away the pain of rape, either. It’s not a cure for rape, and it adds more pain physically, mentally, and for life. I will sum up by saying that if, in fact, your statement that most abortions happen in early stages is true, we can also assume you mean rape. If that’s true, then an early abortion - many times by D&C or abortion pills, will also erase all trace of evidence to bring that rapist to the punishment he deserves. True for any abortion, but crucial in a rape case where a perpetrator needs to be found sooner rather than later.

Incredibly complex issue that many paint black or white on both “sides” of the issue. I have definitely openly had the conversation with my priest that I KNOW if it were my 10 year old, I would not want the pregnancy to continue. And as long as I know in my heart that I could never force my child to give birth, I cannot support a total ban. 🙏🏻

It is painted black and white because being dead or alive is black and white. Once you allow a little bit of killing you hand over the language that allows a lot of killing. It's a hard argument because being dead is difficult to reverse.
