It's a common point in almost all sci-fi universe, the colonization and eventually even terraformation of Mars. Reality is that Mars can not be terraformed. Or to be precise, it can be, but conditions of atmosphere on the planet will never allow humans to breath without respirator equipment on the surface, plus the atmosphere will slowly disappear through time. Mars don't possess gravity, geological activity and a magnetic field strong enough to guarantee the same conditions that we can find on Earth. This is one of the weak points of sci-fi universe that I really like like Halo and Alien.

@@ProjectACHERON well, there are gravity plates and stuff like that, but here we talking about a planet. Making all of this for the extension of a planet is a bit... how can I say? A waste of resources. But I won't argue about background of this universe since it was made in years where we yet had to known planets and phisics. Mars is basically the first world owned by Weyland&Yutani, their Headquarters.
