@arfyego06825 жыл бұрын
@@DarkPsy No no, he's got a point.. I mean, I could see this happening as an enlisted man, so minus the saber, but otherwise... Yeah, but what you said is actually what got them to enlist. The gentlemanly heroism, the ladies, the glory. It was nice, and it was the thing that inspired so many young men to hop on the bandwagon. It truly is enticing, but compared to the horrors of actual warfare, I'm sure many of them would choose to stay home. A factory doesn't seem all too bad when you think of the horrors of the Great War.
@arfyego06825 жыл бұрын
@Landser 1916 This is about political opinions, and in a battle of opinions, no one is correct. I think, as is in real life, that you can aspire to be what you want to be. The scenario this man described is what enticed so many young German men to enlist in the first place, but one must realize that war brings death, and death is not something to be wished.
@arfyego06825 жыл бұрын
@@DarkPsy Yes, that is very true. However, in my own opinion, I think that the short-lived glory and glee of a soldier's life would be *by far* outweighed by the actual fighting itself, so I personally would stay home. The life of a soldier as you described would be ideal, but we sadly do not live in an ideal world where soldiers twirl mustaches and wink at well-dressed ladies. Not anymore, at least. In the end, soldiers are meant for killing and protecting the interests and freedoms of one's homeland, and conquering others if ordered to. When he is not doing the aforementioned mustache-twirling and women-wooing, he is a brutal and effective killing machine, bred for taking the lives of his country's enemies. The glory of it is nice, and I often feel the same way you do about this, but actual warfare itself is so horrible, I'd personally rather stay at home. However. If I was one of those happy-go-lucky young German men in 1914 or 1870, filled with the legends that you described, I would probably want to join, *or* if my own home country was being invaded or my family in danger, then yes, I would enlist. Otherwise, though, I wouldn't. The idea of dying for a noble cause like you said is actually very honorable, and I would do the same, if needed. I also think the days gone by that you've described would be absolutely lovely, where soldiers are gentlemen and war is a myth, but sadly, reality must step in. There were times when this illusion was reality, however. *Those* are the times I believe you are referring to. And in that case, yes, they were good times, for the most part. It's a shame the world can't be at peace enough to have this dream become reality again. Thank you, sorry for the sermon. I do hope you can understand. Tschüss! :)

PREUßENS GLORIA! This is an absurd claim which can be refuted by many Prussian defeats! Prussia's only remarkable achievement was to force the other small German states into a union. Prussia was able to do this because Prussia was the strongest small German states of the various small German states. Prussia is wrongly called a great power of that time. Prussia was never a great power! This is illustrated by the defeats in the Seven Years' War, when Prussia was only lucky to survive. It was only by the mercy of Russian Empire that Prussia survived at all. The fact that Prussia became a puppet state of the French Empire at the beginning of the 19th century also clearly shows that Prussia was not a great power. The Prussian army lost decisive battles against both Russia and France. Besides, Prussia was also not a great power in the war against France 1870/1, because if Prussia had been a great power, Prussia would have dared to go to war against France alone. But since Prussia was not a great power, Prussia only dared war against France with the support of the other German dwarf monarchs. It also shows clearly that Prussia was not a great power, that Prussia sent an army of only 1000 men to fight against Poland. This small ridiculous Prussian army was then defeated by a far superior in number Polish army in the Battle of Bromberg in 1794. Prussia was unable to fight Poland alone and could only hold onto the small Polish territories with the support of the Russian Empire. If Prussia had been a great power, Prussia would have been able to defeat Poland on its own, but in fact the Russian Empire won most battles against Poland. The Russian Empire defeated Poland, not Prussia! Here are some Prussian army defeats that show that the Prussian army was certainly not invincible. But these are not all Prussian defeats. These are some defeats of the Prussian armies in the 18th century. Battle of Cassano (1705) Battle of Kolín 1757! Battle of Gross-Jägersdorf 1757! Battle of Moys 1757! Battle of Breslau 1757! Battle of Fehrbellin 1758 Battle of Kunersdorf in 1759! Battle of Meissen 1759! Battle of Maxen 1759! Battle of Landeshut in 1760! Battle of Valmy 1792 These are some defeats of the Prussian army in the 19th century. Twin battles of Jena and Auerstedt in 1806! Battle of Saalfeld 1806! Battle of Luebeck 1806! Battle of Lützen (1813) Battle of Bautzen 1813 Battle of Dresden 1813 Battle of Brienne 1814 Battle of Montmirail (1814) Battle of Château-Thierry 1814 Battle of Vauchamps 1814 Battle of Craonne 1814 battle of ligny 1815

By the way, Prussia was a catastrophe for Europe! It would have been better for Europe if Prussia had either been destroyed or decisively weakened. Because Prussia was the strongest of the German small states, which forced most of the German small states into a German union. This union together with the German small states outside this union was strong enough to defeat the French. The result of this victory was the establishment of a United German State. Without this unified German state, neither World War I nor World War II would have happened. This united nation would not have had the opportunity to commit various genocides. If Prussia had not existed and thus also no unified Germany, then there would not have been also almost 50 years of communist oppression for half of the European nations. Because the communist rule over the areas of the fallen Russian Empire as a result of the 1st World War would never have existed.. So neither did the later successes of the communists. The communist victory was the result of the First World War. The 2nd World War also started through united Germany and as a result of the 2nd World War, the communists could occupy half of Europe and force the naions there to embrace communism. So NO world wars, NO genocides, NO immeasurable destruction and NO strong communism. That would be the result of the destruction or considerable weakening of Prussia. Because Prussia made this German state possible in the first place. That was actually the only relevant achievement by Prussia! Unfortunately, when the Poles had the opportunity to do so, they did not destroy Prussia! Too bad for Europe! Others also had the opportunity to destroy Prussia or to weaken it decisively. The French and the Russians. Unfortunately they didn't use the opportunity to destroy Prussia either.

I am a Frenchman, and I have great respect for the German music and military marches. They were far from being all nazi tunes. Should the music of Beethoven, Bach, Schumann, Schubert, Wagner, Mozart and so many others banned, because they were Germans ? During the 1870 and 1914-1918, many German soldiers and officers were from jewish religion (100 000 during WWI). And they chanted these songs with the same pride as their christian (or just non believing) comrades.

Exactly! My great grandfather was a Jewish soldier in WW1 who immigrated to the USA after the monarchy was overthrown. Even Frederick III went to Jewish weddings to help combat Anti-Semitism.

@McClernand...ur right, the pussian military marches are far away from nazifascism. But all those aggressive tunes (and lyrics from march-songs) show nothing but a primitive ooompa-ooompa maeching rhythm. To sounds like that, german soldiers invaded your country WITHOUT any reason. So it was in 1870 as well as in 1914, killing hundreds of thousand CIVILIANS, innocent women, kids, old people !!! There were jewish soldiers in both armies, I agree. They were as just misguided as all the other of their comrades. It´s a difference to be proud of an army, of soldiers and the own military, concerning what these soldiers did in the past: DEFENDING the own country or invading and conquering other countries. My ancestors did nothing but invading and conquering other countries, WITHOUT any reason !!! No Serbians, no French, no British, no Polish, no Belgians ( just to mention a few) threatened Germany in 1870 or 1914 or 1939 !!! That are FACTS !!!

@@macpeepeepoopoo7567 That's a little bit funny that you compare AFD to PiS. I mean I know that most of Europe is saying about PiS that this is far-right but this is not true. PiS is center-right party with socialistic type of economy. Of course they are against LGBT but they really do nothing to stop them. We in Poland have some problems in politics. I think that better Polish party for that comparison would be Konfederacja(Coalition of monarchists, libertarian and national camp) They are the most right party in our country. PiS is simmiliar maybe to PCD in France and Fidesz in Hungary. In Poland being really right-wing party is very difficult. 50 years of communism made his work. But in Poland current we don't have definition of right-wing. Our current ruling party is trying to be like Sanacja and Polish Socialist party from times before war. PPS in that times was leftist but they were also the biggest opossition to communism so most of our succesful right politicans have bonds with PPS. So that's why rightist parties in Poland are caling PiS communist or leftist and leftist parties are caling them dictator rulership. PiS is everything xD But I have news, in elections from people in age 18-29. Konfederacja have at least 30% Lewica (Left) have at least 30% and PiS with civil platform have both more than 15% So we surely will have ideological war...
