I play lefty and it still just looks wrong when I see another lefty.

I'm the same. It's just looks wrong. I'm trying to switch but it's impossibly difficult to unlearn lefty and learn righty. Requires too much patients that I don't have anymore. For those interested in seeing how difficult it is, watch the video of Rob and Lee playing left handed guitars and you'll get some sort of idea how difficult it is when you know how to play and yet not be able to play because your hands literally don't want to do what you tell them to do.

Great jam. Reminds me of grammer school (k to 6) and we're going to the multi purpose room (cafeteria) for a film strip. This was mid '60s. Bought a guitar recently. Wanted a Class 5 years ago. 5 amps already.

@MrTomZombie - dude, yes it would. It's what I use. For a band practice, and for small gigs it will cope no problem. Where the problem is is in spread. It's just one speaker, and if you or someone stands in front of it they block your sound. For gigs I put a mic in front of it through the PA just to help the spread. It's a great amp, and the more I use it the more I like it. HTH SB

Hard to say, and depends on what you run them through... There's not much in it really - The Class 5 is very loud. But you have to drive them hard to get gain, it's a non master amp. Basically think mini blues-breaker on Redbull.

Yeah actually I was just discussing this today! I takes them really well, especially reverb ;-) Tubescreamer's sounds nasty through them though which I was surprised at. If you can run it flat out then you won't need one unless you want searing rock like this. I would use a Big Muff, Hardwire CM2, Zvex Box of metal/rocks etc.

I like the idea behind this amp and it sounds good too but its no bedroom amp its way to loud. wish Marshall and other companies would make a valve amp that can be used at real home volume levels clean and overdrive and with a 12" speaker they sound much fuller than a 10" IMO. I have an AVT20 and if you use some the recommended settings such as the JCM 800 one its so loud as to be pointless, and bare in mind this is a solid state power amp with only a valve pre amp. wish I could play louder :(

Yeah I've seen them. I was interested in the JCM 800 one they are planning to release but it doesnt state which model in the 800 range its meant to be like. I've played through a 4010 and the 4203 (think those model numbers are correct) and they both have quite different tone. I guess the only thing to do is try when they come out

I know what you mean. It seems like Marshall is back logged on these babies and can't meet the demand in time. Seems like the whole world is waiting to get these Class 5. For those you have these amps already, consider yourselves lucky blokes. I hope I get mine before XMas. I can't believe Marshall wants $399 for these amps. Talk about getting more than what you paid for indeed.

@cgavin1
@cgavin1 8 жыл бұрын
I was checking the classifieds today and you can literally buy the JCM900 heads for £350 used. Not sure why people want these twitchy little combos. The 'too loud' argument makes no sense. With the volume comes the tone. These combo amps just got no dick. I prefer a JCM on 0.5-1 over these.
@Tolman18
@Tolman18 7 жыл бұрын
The answer is people want to push their power section power tubes and pre amp tubes as hard as they can. Reason is when this is done, you get an amazing over the top tone because tubes are supposed to be pushed hard if you want the best sound from them. I have a dual rectifier and I can't push its sweet sound, unless I'm at a large gig. If you have loud tube amps that are 100 or 50 watts, you can actually buy a power attenuator, which will allow you to push your tubes and keep the sound level at a much reasonable setting. Unfortunately they cost a good amount of money. I'm looking to get a small tube combo amp like this, so I can crank it hard and get the best warm rich tones possible. Hope this helped you somewhat. :)
@skald98
@skald98 7 жыл бұрын
But a dual rectifier still sounds better at low volume than one of these boxy sounding tube practice amp at the same volume. You're not achieving any more so-called tube sound with a tiny tube amp than you would be with a full size tube amp in a bedroom/low volume situation. Even if the theory that 'well you have to turn dials more because it's not as loud right away, so the tubes are getting more work' held water, these cheap combos don't have the speakers or the box size or, in this amps case, the EQ dynamics to do anything you'd want long term. You'd never be able to dial in a great sound. It'd always be baby's first tube amp and you'd still be no closer to getting an excellent amp tone than you were before you bought it
