Mike I just recently bought a Marshall Studio Vintage 1/12 cab to pair with my Class 5 combo. Big, big sound indeed. The Class 5 is in my opinion one of the most underrated amps.

I have the head version of this amp and play it through a Marshall 2x12 cabinet. Great sound, I hear adding a treble booster really makes this shine

Awesome playing and great tone! I have the class 5 head and love it's vintage flavor...however there are some things that really improve it's tone.. and one is pairing it with a good cab with good speakers. Then it's inner plexi really comes alive. Also reducing the bass to 2 or below is crucial in improving it's tone. It's a fun amp. Good job making it sound great!

I have the Class 5 and use it through my old Marshall 4x12" Celestion Heritiage G12H Greenbacks, sounds very full its no Plexi but not bad for the price, and you could play clubs with this setup, add a preamp overdrive for leads.

I tried a class 5 and chose a DSL 15h instead. No remorse. I was playing a Les Paul and dimed the volume on guitar and amp. It sounded muddy fizzy and horrible. You get a great tone out of it with a strat at volume around twelve o'clock. Especially with a nice pedal like Fulltone OCD. Your video makes me want to try one again. Thanks !

Hey I have this amp too, pin-up version head/cab with no girl on the front of the cab which I like. Through my 412 it's stupid cool sounding. Also this bitch takes front end true-bypass pedals really well and as mentioned in your video is very responsive to the pots on your guitar. Having said all that, I really enjoy listening to your guitar playing... Piles of style/attitude and so so so sweet. Cheers and thanks for the video.

Congrats on actually making this amp sound good. I bought a Class 5 a couple of months ago and... I wish I hadn't. I guess the way to make this amp sound okay is to do what you are doing in this video: use a Strat style guitar, use good pedals and keep the master volume down. The problem with the last bit is that you would then have to mic the amp in order to be able to use it playing with other musicians. Unmiced, and with the volume maxed out, this amp is possibly loud enough to play in a moderately loud band (especially through a 4x12), but then you have all the negatives with gunning the volume: you get heaps and heaps of harsh, fizzy, unpleasant distortion which just brings the bad kind of tears to your eyes. I've played this amp with various Les Pauls and both with the stock speaker and through a 1960A. In my opinion, this amp doesn't deserve a shred of the hype surrounding it.

Ollonskog Well, that's the way a plexi sounds like. I use the amp with an ibanez ts9 and that way i don't have to die from the amount of volume it has.

I think they only sound good turned up , but the little cab and speaker don't give you enough weight.i haven't tried recording it , but they were pretty cheap it prob wont sound as a good as a jcm800 etc..
