I am very pleasantly surprised by how good the CODE sounds. It's still got that modelling, uncanny valley, sound, but it sounds a whole lot better than its price point. It would make a killer practice amp, the app integration is slick. Now I just need to talk myself out of getting one.

I watch all their videos. Danny and I were just chatting about this amp... I needed to see iy for myself. I'm torn between thus and the new Vox AV series. I had an Amplify 150 for a bit but never fell for it. This seems similar but with a little more soul...

I think the tl;dr is this is a PERFECT, BEGINNER amp. I just started playing, and chose this as my first amp. I think it's a perfect home... practice... and most importantly, first... amp. I understand how more experienced players will s*** all over this, but given my situation, it's the perfect amp because: 1) I have no idea what my sound or tone is or what even sounds good. This lets me play with marshall sounds as well as fender sounds, etc and really experiment and figure out where I want to go with my next "real" amp. I can download some presets from people who maybe know more about what they're doing. It really lends itself to learning how to dial in an amp properly for a beginner. 2) the headphone jack. I know it sounds worse than it being played normal, but nobody in my paper thin walled apartment needs to hear me learn. 3) affordable. perfect for a newbie on a budget. 4) It's loud enough to grow with. 5) Being new, I don't have any pedals. Most reviews s*** on it, and I get that, but no one is reviewing it through the eyes of someone starting out IMO. (I appropriately used colons and semicolons so you can trust what I say)

Always wish Lee would play more and test the gear more. Rob just cranks the shit outta the gain to the point that every single guitar and amp he plays sounds pretty much the same. I get a way better idea of what the gear is like when Lee plays.

I agree +tenodogblu and thats part of the problem. He's too good to be just turning up the gain and shredding all the time. I'm sure he'd have even more followers if there was some variety in his playing. Thats why I prefer listening to Rabea playing. Rob is a lot of fun though.
@andrewpolitano

Yeah, Rabea and Cap have some soul to them that Rob seems to have lost along the way somewhere, I agree. Shredding is cool sometimes, but man, does it get old quick.. I wanna hear some original riffs. I know Rob writes stuff every once in awhile right? I mean, he can't be all Dorje and scales..

Everyone expects a $200 amp to sound like a Mesa Dual Rectifier or a 5150, but that's just not going to happen. A cheap 10 inch speaker is going to get muddy with distortion, but this product isn't intended for the discerning tone-hunter with a big budget. Chill people.

Dude you are comparing amps to speakers here. You are saying: a Rectifier sounds better than a 10 inch speaker. That is like saying that a Mercedes drives better than a garage. A Rectifier should be plugged to a proper cabinet and this Marshall amp can be plugged to a proper cabinet as well because it has speaker output, right?

+ChainsawChristmas Did someone take away your buttplug boy? You said that something with a 10inch speaker can't sound like a Rectifier but there are no speakers in Rectifiers unless you get the Rectoverb combo. All I am saying is that for a good comparison the Marshall should be connected to a proper cabinet. It could sound as great as a Rectifier, who knows?

June 2, 2016... I just received my CODE 50 and ran through the 99 presets and like a lot of them. My android phone easily connected over Bluetooth and the next step is to start tweaking for my likes and needs. thanks guys for showing how to adjust the various settings and don't let the naysayers win out because there is definately a place in the Marshall product line for a leading edge amplifier that is also easy to custom and can do so many different voices.... smaller amp are in for now and less gear and this may be the wave of the future. Think we should start a guitar-amp game where another person remotely changes the settings and the player has to immediately play a song that matches the new tone... points are given for how many seconds it takes the audience to agree the song matches the tone. i.e. 1 sec =10 point , 3 sec= 5 points, 5 seconds= 1 point.... first one to 100 wins. I was convinced to buy the amp. After which I experienced buyers remorse -- not for the amp, but for a toaster oven I bought which was now shagged beyond repair. The horror... the horror...

I got a code 50 a few months ago and i gotta say...i love it. It is a great sounding amp. The app and webpage intergration is so important and i haven't seen any talk about it at all. Yes...you can do everything onboard if you know what your doing but the best way to use this amp is to go online...setup your presets...download a bunch, you have 100 onboard and 100 online. Sounds like to much i know, but you will fill up your list fast. Then crank the amp and the app and you have everything at your fingertips. I have several modeling amps and this one sounds way better than the rest. They are all pretty good and do lots of things but the code50's sound is way better. One more quick tip...You must tilt this amp. I don't know why but it sounds thin if not. Just give it a bit of a tilt backwards..maybe 2 inches and the sound is amazing.

Rob, I was hoping you might have some insight for me. I bought myself an Atomic Amplifire and have been running it into the return on my Marshall MG head, sounds decent but since i know you have one what Amp head or Combo have you played it into and had the best results for getting that juicy rich modeled tone at high living room volumes and down? I do have a couple of 2x12's with V30's in them so head is probably where im more interested. Have you tried a FRFR power amp or powered speaker with the AmpliFire yet?

This sounds like the latest digi-amp that will sell like hotcakes when they finally hit our shores but six months later, will be filling up eBay. I call these presets "two month tone" because inside a big box retailer at relatively low volume, they sound quite amazing the first time you hear 'em but a few weeks later at home, the ear fatigue sets in because the longer you listen the more you notice the missing dynamics of the digital platform at this price point. Eventually the technology you get from the uber-expensive digital rigs like Kemper will work its way down to these affordable Borg boxes but until then, fun enough to fart around with but uninspiring once the novelty wears off. Killer little bugger for those on a budget but a tiny 5-watt bottle rocket Marshall DSL5 will eat this alive.

how would you rate this compared with, say the LINE6 AMPLIFi--which i just bought? i almost bought this, but found that the LINE6, for my purposes, was more appropriate because a) it is bluetooth capable, b) 5 speakers c) if i decide never to play the guitar again, which i don't see happening even though i'm not that great, i can use it specifically as a bluetooth speaker stereo system. i just heard you say BT in ref to this, and now i'm wondering if i made the correct choice, but i think i may have because it was on sale for more than 55% off the retail price. nice huh? lol but still...

I had a Peavey modeling amp that, while it had significant changes when cycling the modes, just had a bunch of genuinely hostile (in the actual bad way) noise in the lower mids. I have an education in electronics, and it's why I always had a fight with resolving ICs vs. actual transistors vs. tubes. I finally got to sit down in a quiet place with a friend that can play really well, and then "got" the tube tone and figured out the inter-harmonic hostility. I know I like the 6505+ and several of the Blackstar models, along with a Randall 667. But I record at home, so I'll just buy an attenuator when I finally buy the amp. For now, it's just Positive Grid so I can test what I like and get a general feel for the options. Since I work more "in the box" and do field recording, I don't have a normal studio space for an isocube and fixed mic'ing. Yet. ;-)

Like a couple of others here, I would love to see a CODE vs Amplifi comparison video. Also how does the CODE sound when played quietly? Can it be played quietly and still get a good tone? (I know heresy to play a Marshall quietly). My current amp is a 15w 2 channel combo that sounds like crap until the volume is at least 1/3 of the way up and by then it is just too loud to play in the house when the my family or neighbours are home. The gain channel is even louder, LOL. I would like to get an amp that is self contained (combo), lots of different tones and effects to play with, lowish cost, can play well at low volume to practice, but can be cranked to "screw the neighbours" sound levels when the need arises.

Hey Chappers and Lee. Do you mind suggesting any cheap Wah pedals as I am the owner of a les Paul. My Shortlist at the moment is: -VOX -BEHRINGER -DAPHON Thanks guys. I am a Marshall user as well. Question of the day: How did your guitar Journey start? Mine, it was school holidays and I looked around in the garage and found it in the garage...went on from there

Funny how everyone expects a 10 inch speaker to sound full and robust like a 4-12 speaker cab, I mean really how is that supposed to be possible? Hell just mic it into a PA or a big amp and let it blow. lol

Hello Rob ,Why when I connect an external effect pedal to my Marshall Code 50 in the high gain presets it produces terrible interference, for example a wha pedal, do you have any experience with this problem? Thank you !!!! Cheers from Holland!!!

I'm guessing that amp would sound a lot better plugged into a 2x12 or 4x12,not getting clean low end out of a 10' speaker.

This seems like an outstanding amp my only concern is its versatility. would i be able to use my acoustic on this?
@ehsanhaq155
@ehsanhaq155 2 жыл бұрын
Yes. Yes you will be able. This amp rewards you the more you learn to tweak it. It's not a simple plug and play type thing. I mean, it is. But it's infinitely better sounding when you know how to handle it.

It's hard to gauge whether this is a gig worthy amp and if it was, can you shut the receiver off to disconnect phone access or does phone access require an amp specific password or can any phone have the software and control any amp at any time? I ask because I once had an overly competitive member of another band playing the same night as my band change all the settings on my amp before my band started playing. Luckily I had a few minutes before the set to realize what happened and reset the amp..... so imagine someone being able to mess with your amp from their phone from anywhere in the room or maybe from outside the room during your set? Potential nightmare. There are some nice sounds in this video, but at the price point, I assume it is more of a great sounding practice amp. Right?

Ultimate KZbin drinking game: 1) click on any random video thats in the style of someone talking to a camera. 2) every time someone says "link in the description", take a drink. 3) click on another random video in the style of someone talking to a camera. 4) do step 2. 5) repeat steps 1-3... wait... damn you Brian Mcknight!! Repeat steps one through FOUR. You will not be conscious after one hour.

Can't help but wonder how many of these digital modelling amps will still work in 20 years. How many phones will still support the software.. And if one suddenly craps out how much is it going to cost to get it fixed.
@roguejellybean2651

+Severinate I've fairly certain you can do everything on the app either on the computer or on the amp itself.
@BenjaminRoethig
@BenjaminRoethig 8 жыл бұрын
+Severinate At these prices, you don't get them fixed. The labor costs would cost more than the amp. Also, we're not talking about a long term investment here in a cheap modeling practice amp.

Mr Rob Chapman, I have a question, please, I'm planning to buy a modeler amplifier for my new guitar, I'm not a newbie but I'm not a professional player, I'm planning to become better.... and I've seen a lot of videos of different brands and sizes of modeler amps, LINE 6 SPIDER, BLACKSTAR TVP, FENDER MUSTANG, VOX, ETC... and I was thinking to buy a Boss Katana 50, however I found this other option which is the Marshall Code 50, which one will you buy?

+Kirill Holstov Fairly certain it is the amps. Just sounds like an MG to me, every demo I have heard sounds bad. The VOX AV series is around the same price point, and they blow the CODE out the water, imo.

I'm now completely stuck... I'm a beginner but feel I want something that'll last me quite a while. I'm stuck between the Code 25, and the Black Star ID Core 20/40. I was considering the Roland Cube too. Now I seem to be preferring this for the range of custom settings. Thoughts?

mlvia most of the pedals you'd need are already "in" the amp, but yeah, I haven't run into any problems with pedals and my code 25. If you want, you can download "Marshall gateway" and look at the pedals and presets without buying the amp, that is what I would do. Cheers.
