@Bourbon-Canted-Ky-Windage7 жыл бұрын
The Cab Clone thing could have been avoided if Mesa hadn't let everyone think its something its not. The cab models are all 1x12s except for the classic, which is 4x12. Most folks don't realize that. Its a single SM57 on a V30. Compared to multiple mic'd cabinet, it doesn't sound all that great. And that is what most comparisons are made with. If you're like me and don't like V30s, you're not gonna like it all. No, I do not own one. Mesa really messed with the expectations of the Clone.

I know this is an old video but I just wanted to give credit where its due and say thank you for your excellent advice and customer service. Without going into a life story i've played guitar badly on and off for about 15 years but decided to finally have a crack at doing it properly and needed to buy a practice amp that could potentially handle jamming with friends or maybe even the odd small gig. I was doubtful about non tube amps as friends had always shat on them when mentioned in conversation but my budget wasn't going to stretch to a valve version of what i wanted. So after watching endless reviews (including your code 50 one and also the modelling amp shoot out) and seeing you had several b-stock examples of the code 50 I decided it was the way forward. The amp is amazing. I'm not saying it will compete with the high end marshall's etc but for my purposes it is incredible! It's bursting with features and with that comes a bit of a learning curve but once you get your head around the bluetooth, app and plethora of settings it is actually incredibly good. Once i hooked it up to my PC i was even more blown away by the Marshall PC software which allows you to configure your own patches on there with a great, easy to use interface. You can even download and share artist inspired profiles and store them on your PC or send them directly to your amp! I have seen a lot of technophobes/Luddites that chuck up negative comments or reviews because they cant get their head around the code 50 interface/software which saddens me because im sure some people have been deterred from buying it and are missing out on a quality bit of kit at an incredibly affordable price point. I know I will never outgrow this thing, I might one day feel the need to get a valve combo or even a half stack one day but i'll always keep this for practice, and smaller gigs that i might one day play! Once again thanks guys!

I second that. It’s been 15 or so years since I regularly played and I decided to get back into it. Been doing research and instead of getting what I wanted from back then, I decided to order the Code 50 last night. Really wish the 100 wasn’t discontinued.
@johnlmcgary8 жыл бұрын
So after 3 months of waiting for my preordered code 50 it finally arrived (yeah!). One thing that they don't mention on here is that this amp is ridiculously loud, anything over 2 in a small room will melt your brain. It does clean tone quite well, nails 70s and 80s rock tones, can do blues tones, and so so djenty tones (the djent sounds are a little noisy). Surprisingly it does country quite well, both modern rockabilly and old school.
@christianalvarado13418 жыл бұрын
I'm planing to buy one tomorrow. should I do it ? worth it?
@johnlmcgary8 жыл бұрын
It makes some great noises, but the Bluetooth is sketchy and its mildly difficult to edit and make your own patches without using the app. The speaker itself sounds slightly boxy but not noteworthy outside of the bedroom. What kind of music do you play and what do you plan to use it for?
@christianalvarado13418 жыл бұрын
John Mcgary I play grunge and blues mostly. And only to play on my room
@johnjoyce85188 жыл бұрын
Hey I'm really into that djent sound and was wondering about buying one of these amplifiers. Is it hard to get a good groovy djent tone out of it? When you say noisy what does that mean exactly? Do the noise gates in the amp not do a good enough job of cutting that down?
@johnlmcgary8 жыл бұрын
+John Joyce it's just that the presets are all set to the treble Side and needs to be edited. The stack preset would be a good place to start, it's got that plexi tone, but I would run a pedal through it for djenty stuff. To get the best out of it your going to have to edit the presets.

Well, now that this video is almost exactly three years old, I'd really like to read from CODE 50 owners who have owned their amps for a while now and who've had a chance to explore its capabilities. I have a couple of questions even. Do you gig with your CODE 50 and if you do how well does it handle the size of the rooms you've played in? Have you used yours for recording, and if so what are the results you've had with it? Does it model these other amps closely enough for your tastes? Me, I've had my CODE 50 for about three months now and I'm really happy with it. I've still only scratched the surface with its capabilities, but you know it hasn't been easy cuz I find some really cool sounding presets that I just love and I end up not doing much else in exploring the amp's capabilities. This is simply a fantastic amp and one you can buy for an incredibly affordable price. And no, I'm not a Marshall or Anderton's employee yadee yadee.

The DSL/Valve Marshalls sound warmer/better. But the Code is pretty close for so much less money. It's crazy. I bought the Code 50 about 5 years ago for practice/rehearsing and was blown away by the sounds I got from it. It took a bit of time and getting familiar with the app but I cracked the code (ha) and got rocking relatively fast. Fast forward to today where I upgraded to the Code head and cabinet and I'm more than comfortable gigging with this thing. Said goodbye to pedalboards and I'm not looking back. Sure, I'd be happier with a valvestate and a lot of toys but I'm doing more than fine for FAR less money. I love valves as much as anybody but digital modeling is the future. In a couple of years we are going to have ones that will habe nothing to envy from our good old valves. Crazy to think about but I think it's a good thing.

+Tilen Marš I love the reviews with the Cap and Rob from a pure fun viewpoint, but Cap and Pete are nice because they tend to be more technical reviews of the gear because the Cap takes the lead and gets more into the technical geekery

+Tilen Marš Interesting. I find it a good presentation, but honestly, Lee and Rob are much more fun in their bitching about. But that's just me. Nice playing from Pete, though. Love that. www.svenhorlemann.com

For anyone who might be interested I own this amplifier as well as a boss Katana 100 1 x 12 combo. The marshall sounds like a recording of a guitar that has been mixed and mastered....like you were listening to an isolated gtr track from a record. The katana sounds like you plugged into a "real" amp. The Code has been relegated to my living room as my "fun" amp and the katana is what I actually play thru for gigging.

Would the amp be worth the buy for primarily clean tones? I play strats mostly, but I like the way Marshall amps give it the heavier bottom end, and especially at such a good price.

Around Christmas 2015, I bought a Line6 Amplifi FX100 modelling pedal new for about $200. I run its stereo output into a Yamaha 100 watt per channel home theater amp and large stereo speakers with a 12 inch subwoofer. This gives me very clean sound for the modeller to work with. And the price was right, I already was using the Yahama system on my computer since it was no longer in use on my home theater after upgrades. I might not have bought my guitar amp and 2x12 cabinet if I had known about the modelling pedal and clean amp path beforehand.

+John Shalamskas The Burr-Brown DACs in the Yamaha HTR 5960 home theater amp came in handy for getting around the noisy, distortion-prone sound card bundled with most computer motherboards - just use the SPDIF sound card output to pipe the digital data into the Yamaha and decode / amplify it there. And the headphone output of the Yamaha drives high impedance headphones like the SennHeiser HD600 surprisingly well.

I’ve been going back and forth on getting one of these. I currently use an Eleven Rack with a 4x12. But the Code 2x12 100w sounds wonderful. Get a road case and put it on top, then there’s my rig. If I’m not using the eleven rack, I use my Marshall TSL 2000

I bought a Code 50... from you 🥳 ...and my only (and actually biggest!) disappointment is the fact that there is a really annoying digital crackling when holding down a chord or note, and you let it fade. It’s definitely not great for recording when that clean sound should beautifully fade away, but it ends up being ruined by that unwanted buzzing sound. I contacted Marshall whereby they suggested adjusting the noise gate 😂 ...but all that does is obviously bring in an even more annoying loud amp-style buzz that nobody wants to hear. Most of what I am referring to are the clean sounds, so you can imagine my unhappiness. Yes, it’s a great (practice) amp, and the app is great because you can affectively have 200 presets - 100 on the app and 100 on the amp. Plus, you can upload them to the MyMarshall website and save them. You can also replace the factory presets with your own, and when you move them out, it still keeps the factory presets at the bottom of the website page. It’s a really simple drag & drop process. You can also share your presets and search and use someone else’s... what’s not to like? Oh yeah, I almost forgot, that really annoying unwanted digital buzz. I really hope the guys at SoftTube fix it because the noise gate option does not compensate. Oh, and the Hendrix sound at 4:45 is really freakin’ good. My own Code 50 cost £199 (brand new) with a free foot pedal. Bargain! Just please fix the digital buzz on your next firmware update (attach USB to a computer - another great feature). Did I say please?

Great review! Although I am a tad disappointed that they forgot about showing the footswitch. I was interested to see how intricate it may have been given all the effects that can be turned on/off with the app.

+mattalessi2112 A working CODE footswitch doesn't exist in reality yet - we just had a picture of one! I'm sure that when the amps arrive in the shops they will have the footswitches working & available too.

Didnt sound great but kudos for demoing the metal sound in the amp. We often dont get that in amp reviews! I should freaking do reviews for amp makers online. I would do the clean, the rock, hark and metal tones. Something for everyone.

nice Demo, thanks. Disappointing you spent a whole 6.5 seconds on the USB functionality. I wonder how the midi implementation is and how well it works as an interface. How well does it work for direct recording and does it have a 2nd output that lets you take a dry track for re-amping. Can you reamp over USB? I know I am asking a lot, and I'm not expecting the world for the price, but just want to know the details hehe...
