I saw Marshall several times in the 80’s, I met the band once at After Sundown in Blacksburg VA in 1984, you were gracious to me, a star struck 18 year old @ I have always loved the music, a soundtrack and anthem for my early years. -B.

Boy, was I surprised when they dropped that Peter Case tune. Although he is a superb pop songwriter, Marshall excels when he's playing a well picked cover by one of his contemporaries. Ben Vaughn's Brenda Lee a case in point, found on the brilliant Downtown LP.

Come on Marshall you know the rules, if you're going to bring gum to a show make sure you bring enough for everybody

"This Is Easy" isn't an easy song to sing and play--I've tried. So high, vocally, and deceptively complicated rhythm. Robert, thank you so much for posting this. Saw you all in 1983 during the Field Day tour. What a great album that was!

It's even harder to sing it and chew gum at the same time!

But this guitar playing...! Alternating between Fills/runs, chords, arpeggios, arpeggios and octaves with suspensions, stuff over open strings.. all within the same song. That’s how to fill out a song with one guitar. There’s different, but there’s nothing really better than this, especially LIVE! A treat. 😄😄👍👍

Man, oh man, oh man, oh man... So, so so very good... even better when compared to what's on the airwaves today. Love this stuff. And what a great rhythm section.

Robert, A thank you from Sweden. I was at Bottom Line in NY in 1994 the day before the World Cup kicked off. Marsh was playing a solo concert. I flagged down a random guy after the concert asking to paparazzi a pic with me and M in case he would walk by. That random guy was you. You brought me backstage and you guys did conversation with a tounge tied northener. Got a great pic too. Btw Mary Jean and 9 others is a masterpiece not least because of the drive in the percussion. Thanks again

I own a copy of "Mary Jean & 9 Others" on vinyl...and it holds the distinction of being the last vinyl album that I ever purchased. After that it was all CD's.

I was inspired to fact-check a tidbit I'd heard earlier this weekend: That Marshall Crenshaw, did time in Beatlemania. Yup, tis true, he played John Lennon. Here a couple of my faves of his, with his brother on drums and Joe Jackson's bass player...

Funny, I always felt that a number of your live performances were better than the recordings. This is no exception.

This is my favorite MC song. I wish he did it in concert. I've seen him three times in the past five years and he doesn't perform it.

Thank you for this upload Robert! You and your brother are absolute powerhouse forces of talent. Do you still keep in touch with Chris Donato? I know that’s not him in the vid. I think you guys played with Chris at least until 1985. I’ve been trying to look up things on the net about Chris, but have found nothing.

Robert what are you doing now? I almost got to open for your brother when he sang for the Smithereens ...alas cancelled
