@@jeddclampit342 It's very "chimey" sounding on both my thinline tele and jackson dk2 (which has HSS). Sort of a cross between JCM and AC30. The clean channel is pretty sensitive, it goes from super clean to super crunchy on the same channel. But crank the clean channel all the way up and it sounds wonderful on single coil neck pups

Man, after recently picking up a Lead 12 and LOVEING it more than any amp I've owned in 20 years, I want so bad the Lead 100 Mosfet! Tubes, yeah yeah yeah, this thing sounds amazing to MY ears and so does my little Lead 12. Awesome demo! The Sweet Child tone blew me away!

Thanks! Not bad for a solid state amp! It helps that my Les Paul has a Alnico II pro in the neck for the GnR tones, but this amp gets closer to those tones than any amp I’ve played under $1k 😂

I own this amp too($150 at pawnshop). I run it into a jcm800 Lead Series 4x12 with original Rola g12-80s (amazing freakin speakers!). The Lead 100 & cab together are outstanding. This amp def makes u wanna play AC/DC & GnR. I also own a dsl40c which is killer but I play the MOSFET more. It may lack a tiny bit in the tube sustain/harmonics dept but it has a nice tight low end and is voiced perfectly. It sounds very close to my old 800(minus the rumbling low end). Anyway, enjoyed the demo. Cheers! 🍻

I have a broken one that I got in a package with a broken Hot Rod Deluxe (which I repaired, modified and use). This head has just been sitting on a shelf in my studio. After hearing this, I believe I will repair it for use in my studio. I'm mainly a tube amp kinda guy, but you can never have too many sound options and this could come in handy. Thanks for the demo.

A guy on reverb sold me one that didn't work...but i wanted it enough i had it fixed. I love this head . My favorite part is having decibels upon decibels of clean head room. Plus, you don't need an attenuator to get good sounds out of it. It sounds the same at bedroom levels as it does in the rehearsal room. If I could find another one, I'd buy it.

I had one of these in late 80s, in red tolex. Put and Boss Graphic EQ in the loop and you’ve got modern high gain tones on tap. Great vintage tones out of the box. I wish I never got rid of it.

I remember when they dropped. Around $1000 for the full stack. I loved the tone from the head through my old 4x12 Marshall bottom. But the electronics eventually went wonky, and I got a Dual Rectifier.

Love my 86 lead 100 head and won't ever sell it. The fabric was black and has faded to a light gray. It looks as good as it sounds.

I like the 80's marshall solid state amps. They sound fairly similar to an 800, except they're very flat and missing most of the dynamics, they also have a lot less harmonic overtones. This can be bad, but it also can be very useful in certain recording contexts.

It's similar, but due to not having tubes, it just can't handle the same harmonic content that the Super Lead '59 gives, but it's a great budget alternative.

I could talk about all the Marshalls I've owned, beginning in 1970, five months before Jimi Hendrix passed away, but I won't. The best was the first Marshall with a pre-amp and main volume, 1977. I custom ordered one from England, $775. It was the original Marshall design, the only difference being the pre-amp and main volume. I see Mosfet as being a substitute for non-tube designs that didn't perform as well. It all depends on feedback.

The 80s solid state mosfet amps might be the best amps Marshall ever made. The best two are the 100 watt mosfet lead and the lead 12. The most powerful and the least powerful.

The 3310 is the same internals as the 3320 mofset lead but smaller I have a dhl20 it’s the same size as my 3310

Hey the amp actually has quite a lot of gain. I don’t turn on the overdrive in the video until 1:06, and I use it here and there but mostly used it as a boost to push the amp harder, didn’t have the gain turned up much on the pedal! Thanks for checking out the video!

I had one, loved it. Bought new in 1985 Minneapolis MN @ Knut Koupee Music ( Prince, Soul Asylum, The Replacements, Husker Du) with a 4x10 Celestion cab. Sold in Grapevine TX 2003. Should not have done that :-(

Is it tubes? I always have seen MOSFET associated with solid state...Marshalls most popular stuff is tube all the way but this one might be solid state (after re-reading your post i am thinking you replaced it with a tube amp and that's why you said tubes rule?)

I personally like using mosfets for marshall/hiwatt emulaton,they also seem to give better playing dynamics then jfets but,jfets are good too especially in a mu amp configuration.

Sorry I don’t have the amp anymore, and it’s been awhile since I made this video, but if I recall correctly the settings were all what you see in the video. I was just changing channels and turning on/off the 2-3 pedals! Definitely wasn’t expecting this many people to be interested in it or I would have made a better video 😂

I hope u can help me out here. I just pulled my MOSFET out of the attack after a dozen years and I can't find the foot switch. The reverb will not turn on. Do you need a foot switch to turn on the reverb? Its been so long I do not remember. Thanks

I have one as well.....no on/off. just the knob. My reverb goes in & out, so i just run a reverb pedal with it

@@HammerSandwich9 thanks man, I bought a foot switch and the reverb will not turn on so I guess it is busted like yours. I would like to have it fixed but I read it can be a pain on these amps. I have been running an ancient Tonelabe SE through the back of the amp, you can actually get some pretty good sounds out of it if you have the patience.

@@kingorbit I have a 2-button marshall footswitch with mine and it has channel and fx buttons, but I'm not sure if it's the original pedal that is designed to go with the amp. That being said, the reverb doesn't work until I plug the footswitch in, and even still, it doesn't work quite right. But there is a piece of wood glued to top of the reverb tank as if it was "repaired" before I bought it. Anyways, I usually recommend dedicated reverb pedals because most amps don't have great reverb built in to them.

I don’t think so. The Orange Super Crush 100 Combo I have sounds incredible. Sold all my Orange valve amps and don’t miss them. Although I’d love Marshall to reissue these, I’d still buy one for the Marshall tones. I cant go back to valve/tube amps no more, too much hassle and maintenance. The Orange solid state Rockerverb MKIII is the best sounding amp I’ve ever owned. (I’ve found my tone)

@@jazznotes3802 I'm simply talking in terms of personal taste, I'm a marshall guy at heart, but orange is a close second for me. I agree with valve amps being a hassle, I currently have one that's been sitting for 2 years because it has so many issues but it's sentimental so I'll never sell it. Most of the time I turn to my solid state stuff but I do love tube amps still, although I like to stick to simple old school ones, no fancy channel switching or FX loops or anything like that, just one channel into a pair of output tubes. Unfortunately my favorite tone comes from a notoriously unreliable Ampeg tube amp 😂 I've been on the hunt for something to replace it for years
