While most of us are here to watch you work on the tube favorites, I do like to watch the repair videos with amps that are more off of the beaten path. Very cool!

So many of the Marshall amps have that f/x loop short issue. I “fixed” my 32 year old jcm 900 by cleaning the jacks and plugging a guitar cable into it. No more cutting out. Thanks for another great video.

Why would Marshall change from these amazing amps to the muddy MG series? I'll never know.
@DmitriSkif10 ай бұрын
Answer is MGs was much cheaper... AVTs are perfect too, but this two-channel beast was unique for Marshall gear.
@machineryman719710 ай бұрын
@@DmitriSkif Thats hardly an excuse anymore though. Especially when a 50W MG is 500 bucks still. I can get a fully analog Hiwatt Crunch 50 for 350.

These are awesome amps. They are great through the original 1965 4x10 cabs. I still have my cans but sold the amp as I dont need 100w anymore.

I have an old Marshall VS65R solid state amp, 65 watts w/ 1 12" speaker. I bough it new after I sold my JCM800 stack in the early 90's. It has actually been really nice to play through all these years later, cleans are warm and crisp and channel 2 (while not my jcm 800) has a decent drive tone. Overall the amp has been great and has never let me down after all these years.

I remember tube amps losing popularity in the late 80's and 90's, then that turned around. Seems bizarre how that played out. I had a solid state amp, because that's what I could afford at the time, and I didn't know better. That JCM of yours would be nice to have, especially with those old speakers.
@GraphiteandCigars Жыл бұрын
@@qua7771 Not so much that it lost favor with me, I moved and had no room for a stack, plus I was no longer playing out in a band so I could no longer use it. Sure do miss it though. And those old Marshall cabs were glorious :). Be well m8

In my experience, modern snap-in caps typically do not have the negative terminal tied internally to the aluminum shell of the cap ----- but when wiring caps together in series one needs to be 100% certain of this. Not to mention the possibility of creating a ground loop from the can through the clamp to the chassis....

Now I am wondering how similar the preamp in this is to the Marshall Guv'nor pedal and all the so called Marshall in a box pedals derived from that curcuit.

4700 mfd is rather small for power supply cap in a SS of more than 10 watts. Marshall did cut corners there . 20,000 is more in the range for some solid bass . Question if the 33mfd are in the signal path what would bipolar do to the sound there say 50 or 100 volt ones ? I suspect the sound change would not be of a Marshall nature your thoughts .

Ha ha That marshall people think that they want 😅😅😅😅 All tube goodness man haha. There are times I wish I had never bought the damn thing, there are times i wished it was a solid state amp, but I love my old marshall it is my baby... i say love i should include hate... definitely a love/hate relationship... sometimes i love it, sometimes i love to hate it... and well other times i hate that i love it.😂 but it is always my go to amp and i never stray too far for too long. Bought my 2204 2nd hand for $350 in 1992. Probably spend 5 times that keeping it running over the last 30 years lol. Most kids these days have no idea what it is like to have one in front of them. They definitely are nothing like the sim amps and plugins kids call "plexi" lol. By the way that solid state sounds pretty damn good!! For what it is, and totally serviceable for a budget amp

Hi, I've got the 2x12 combo version of this (Lead combo 100 2200) picked up cheap/battered! Very heavy, very loud and just wants to play ACDC! Any chance you could advise on what the footswitch does (I've tried random single and double Marshall switches, no real difference noted), and any advice on the effects loop please?? I've got a split cable for the single effects loop input but it seems to reduce volume and muddy the sound when I put in my old '80s multiverb LT. Cheers.
@PsionicAudio Жыл бұрын
Hey, the footswitch just turns on/off channels A and B. So you can run into the “both” input and then alternate channels with the footswitch. The loop is just a passive insert and will sound awful with most effects unless you run it into a buffer before any effects.
@michaeltrowbridge9324 Жыл бұрын
Cool - thanks for the advice! @@PsionicAudio

It used to be possible to buy replacement knob "brights" for old Scott and Fisher tube hifi gear, which have knobs very similar in appearance to Marshall knobs. Does anybody sell brights for Marshall's or is it necessary to replace the entire knob?.
