I ended up using hand made copy of Marshall amp (point to pint build). It is a hybrid of 1974/1987 versions with valve rectifier. And guess what? This custom version at the beginning was also somewhat hissy/noisy. I changed valves/bulbs to TAD versions. It tamed it down. The biggest breakthrough came when I shielded my guitars with aluminum and copper tapes (both pickups/potentiometers/switches chambers). No hum, no noise. It completely reduced noise on all my guitar amps. From now on I am experiencing pure guitar pleasure :-)

I think that shift in sound at lower volumes has to do with the fact that the Jubilee is a diode clipping amp to give it more of a high gain sound...that is, they kind of loaded it with an overdrive pedal inside, so most of that gain comes from the preamp section, not the power tubes. For me, I'm biased like a tube and sold, it's a Plexi all day, best amp they ever made. Not cork-sniffing here, just my preference. In many cases it may be exactly what someone is looking for...same thing with the 900 and later day 800s(which can sound great). The clean channel is bright to begin with, so at low volumes it kind of can lose its kick and get a bit fizzy. Still, great amps.
@aquilarossa51912 жыл бұрын
Diode clipping is only engaged when you pull the input gain knob to activate 'rhythm clip'. It is more or less Marshall's take on Jose mods. I have a 2525H and a Plexi. My Silver Jube is kind of the opposite problem to the one he demo'd. The sweet spot is not ten in the input gain. It likes to be at around 7 or the lower notes flub out. The master likes to be even lower. I hit the lead channel with a TS808 or an Iommi boost. Sounds good and low end is nice and tight that way.
@StratsRUs10 ай бұрын
I have a Plexi and an original 50W Silver Jubilee. No Worries with either. The Silver Jubilee has so much nuance that you shouldn't trust the ' clipping diode ' spiel. Play.
@carlosvasquezsaelzer27314 жыл бұрын
The secret for playing at bedroom volume and sound great with the 2525h is to use the output master around 7-8 and use the lead master to around 1-2 to keep the volume down. Of course this only works with the lead channel. Its a BIG difference, trust me. Nice video man, cheers! ✌️

dude. did i hear it correctly you set the treble to 8? i would not put it pass 5 (even on les paul also) maybe thats why i hear it too harsh on your setting , the thing with this is amp is its the eq is too sensitive. sometimes one setting will not fit well with other guitar with same setting. well try this settings p:3, b:7-8, m:5-6, t: 3. this is eq fits me ver well in most of my guitars.

a volume pedal is set-up between the guitar mics and input of you amp. A power-soak(here 20-W>5W) is placed between the amp output and cabinet speaker. So the results on sound level/shape are totally different. Normally to get the amp quiet you should really use a loadbox/powersoak (passive of active), price from 100 to 1000+. This Marshall has one powersoak but it must be a on the cheap side.
@MrPolevaulter3 жыл бұрын
A volume pedal is set up in the loop, otherwise it's just another volume knob, like on the guitar. With the pedal you can boost your solos. The volume pot in the loop brings down the volume on a Plexi very nicely, and it doesn't cost tons of money like a power soak. On the Silver Jubilee you can just use the master.
@alainkempa21393 жыл бұрын
@@MrPolevaulter Elmo you are right I was not complete with my explanations, sorry, the volume pedal in the effect loop is the way to go if you have an fx loop. I am agree a good power soak cost a lot so this is a good work around. In general cheap one give you mushy sounds. Keep up with the good reviews you are my tv ;-)

I personally listening thru my AKGs like, or much prefer the DSL 20 watt head you reviewed. This amp sounds like it just doesn't have enough balls or something to me. Your playing is so good it takes that out of the equation, so it is easy to judge the equipment on your channel. Great video and reviews. Will share on FB, etc. Thanks for what value you bring to us here in YT land sir. 👍

I crank the output master to 8 or so and lower the lower the lead master volume to desire sound level. I found this amp doesn’t have the heavy crunch like my orange TH30 but it’s a nice amp but they are very different. The Marshall cleans up better than my Orange. The Marshall can get heavy crunch with a little help from my MXR distortion set to 2 or so. But my Orange is my heavy distortion amp. The Marshall is used for classic metal / rock. The TH30 is my high gain amp

I bought a 2525 yesterday. I already have several 20 w heads: Ceriatone 2061 Lead & Bass (sim. Plexi), Ceriatone 2202(JCM 800), PRS HDRX 20 (very Plexi). They all sound and feel distinctly different and it’s hard to say which I like best. I often like to run 2 or 3 together for a Wet/Dry/Wet trisonic rig.

Marshall 20 watt Jubilee. The honey moon still isn't over update. Just a deadly amp that sounds great in any mix. My settings of late are presence , Bass 9 3/4, Middle 10, Treble 5 1/4, Input gain 6 1/4. This is great for cutting through a mix on KZbin. I usually use a Hall of Fame 2 reverb in the effects loop. A Wampler Ego compressor sounds good and or a Wampler Tumnus can be added (front of amp). I always like a reverb but it sounds great without a reverb when playing in a mix. I mostly use a Stratocaster Professional with a humbucker in the bridge position. These settings are great for blues or hard rock, metal etc.

For home use, instead of lowering the volume and messing with pedals to achieve a good sound, why not crank the volume and use a good attenuator? I have a Two Notes Torpedo Reload and it works a treat.
@MrPolevaulter5 жыл бұрын
For me what works best is just a volume pot in the loop. It costs something like 15-25 dollars, which is waaay less than a proper attenuator.
@alexander38605 жыл бұрын
@@MrPolevaulter Thank you for your answer. I see what you are getting at. I suppose it depends whether or not you are using an amp with an fx-loop. Also, if your amp has a master volume knob then this serves the same function as your solution of a volume knob in the loop. However, what if you have a vintage amp without master volume and fx-loop, or if you are wanting power tube breakup? Then an attenuator is the only way to go. I have the Two Notes Torpedo Reload, so it is so much more than an attenuator (reamp etc). Picked it up used (in new condition) for half the price of a new one and for that price it is definitely worthwhile. But then again it is still not the cheapest solution.

@@MrPolevaulter or a volume pedal? I use an MXR EQ in the FX loop to tame my 100 watt Peavey 6505 and still get nice tone and distortion at bedroom levels. I think that an EQ pedal, volume pedal and OD pedal are good investments anyways.
@GuitarsAndSynths5 жыл бұрын
I would get the new Boss Waza tube expander for a power attenuator. Seems like even these low wattage amps do need some sort of attenuator for bedroom practice even.

Good video man! You are an extremely talented player and a weird dude to boot…In a good way that is so no offense intended! I own this amp. In fact I’ve owned it twice as I didn’t care for it first time around and sold it. This is an amp that makes you work for the sweet spot! Furthermore, a lot of people want Marshalls but they don’t understand them. A lot of players don’t get that just because these are small, they’re no kinder to your ears and they’re NOT “bedroom” amps. 🤣 Marshalls like and sometimes require volume to reach that “Marshall” tone. If you can’t do that to some degree you should probably look elsewhere or buy a bigger house. On to the SJ…A lot of folks don’t care for the higher gain on this one as it will get fizzy quick. Be patient… As some others have said, you really need to find that balance between the output and lead master volume. And you kinda need to use your volume knob on your guitar. Take things a quarter turn at a time. This amp ain’t a plug in and play amp. It’s also IMO of course, not the best amp for all drive pedals in the front either. However, if you’re patient and pair the right drive pedal, you’ve got something special. I do wish Marshall had thought of the on/off button for the efx loop on this amp to begin with as they later got right on the other mini amps. Overall, the “Marshall” tone absolutely lives in the Silver Jubilee but she’s a different beast altogether. And frankly, the True Tone lives in your fingers more than anywhere else. If you give Billy Gibbons or Malmsteen a milk crate with a speaker in it, it’ll sound killer. Anyway… If you can do it and you love Marshall, save your dollars and get the Silver Jubilee AND the MK II! Anyway, sorry for going on so long everybody. Great overview Elmo 🤘🏻🤘🏻
